In past seasons, the downfall to the Chiefs has been injuries. Season one saw them jump out to a promising 7-4 start only to go on a monumental losing streak that carried over into next season. The main reason for the tumble was a season ending injury to overworked Jamal Charles. Last playable season, the Chiefs faltered early but started turning their season around only to lose starting QB Boisture for the season midway through. The Chiefs addressed this situation by upgrading their depth at all positions. This includes bringing in Ray Rice to share the workload with Charles.

After the first game, it looks like the changes could be working.

The Chargers got the ball first and methodically moved the ball down the field. However, the depth of the Chiefs showed up as backup safety, a late free agency pickup, would pick off a Nichols pass at the 2 yard line and end the Chargers drive. The Chiefs would drive the length of the field and Boisture would find Charles for a 35 yard screen pass and the early 7-0 lead. The Chargers would respond but the Chiefs D would step up and force a 42 yard fieldgoal, 7-3. On the ensuing drive, Ray Rice would punch it in from 3 yards out and a 14-3 lead.

The second half was more of the same. Jamal Charles, with fresh legs, would scamper in from 24 yards out and a 21-3 lead. Two more Chiefs FG's rounded out the scoring 27-3.

    Antoine Bethea - 3 Interceptions
    Boisture 12/13, 164 yards, 1 td
    Charles 13 for 104, 1 td
    Rice 11 for 48, 1 td
