The Cincinnati Bearcats football program represents the University of Cincinnati in college football. They compete at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level as members of the Big East Conference. The Bearcat football program is one of the nation's oldest, having fielded a team as early as 1885. In 1888, Cincinnati played Miami University in the first intercollegiate football game held within the state of Ohio. That began a rivalry which today ranks as the eighth-oldest and 11th-longest running in NCAA Division I college football.[2]

After a week 1 bye, the Bearcats played host to the Pitt. Panthers. It was Coach Waggoner's first on-line game. The Bearcats played from behind the whole game, only to make it close in the fourth quarter, losing 35-38. The game was filled with misques by the young Bearcats. The Panthers put the starting quarterback out for one week in the 2nd quarter. At least 5 false starts and 5 INT's made the game a hard one for the Bearcats. A big come back in the fourth made a game of it. The Bearcats came back with 2 t.d. passes to make it 35-38, collecting one onside kick, them stopping the Panthers offense and getting the ball back with just under 2 minutes to go. The back qb for the Bearcats moved the ball down the field to get into scoring range near the goal line, but on second down he throw another INT to end the come back. Coach Waggoner decided to go for the win, because the defense was struggling to keep the Panthers out of the endzone. Good learning experience for the team and new coach.

    Week 3 Game 2:

The Bearcats did a great job of controlling their second game. With a win 34-21 agaist Northern Illinois. The back up qb's still dealt out 5 int's, but scored when then needed to. The defense still looks good causing 5 t.o.'s. The Bearcats controlled the ball for over 21 minutes in the game. It was a much needed win for the Bearcats.

Wow, what a game!! A tough defensive battle in Cincinnati. J Luallen the back-up qb for the bearcats lead the offense, only turning the ball over once during the game, but it was the running game that gave the team the boost to win it. Rb J. Poteat getting palyer of the game with 7 atts for 128 yards and 2 td's. The Bearcat defense stepped it up, causing 3 t.o.'s to help seal the game, stopping Miss. St. on a late 4th quarter comeback with an int with just under 2 minutes left. The final score 24-19, great win for the Bearcats. "Yards were tough to come by in this one, team ball to the defense!! Great team effort for the win!! Way to go Bearcats!!," Coach Waggoner commented after the game. " We played a well coached team today, i'm very proud of the effort from our team!!"

    Week 5: Bearcats vs FSU

Another great win for the Bearcats. Coach waggoner's defense held FSU to just 98 yards of offense in the 20-7 win in Florida. The defense caused 9 sacks and kept FSU 0-7 on third downs. Thats 0%. "Very proud of the team, a great team win for us!!" We go into the bye week looking forward to playing 2 tougher teams before conference play continues. Bring on Penn St and N.D.

Week 7 Bearcats vs. Penn St.

The running game was on fire for the Bearcats, beating a tough and talented Penn St team, 34-14. The game started oddly for the Penn St boys. Trying a wide-reciever screen pass for the opening play. The pass bounced of the Penn wr, a Bearcat lineman picked the ball up and ran into the endzone, ruled a fumble and score for the Bearcats. Penn St was behind the whole game. With the offense using a ball control style. Coach Waggoner kept the defense guessing all game long. Great win over a powerhouse school.

    Week 8: Bearcats @ N.D.

The Bearcats could not find the endzone earily, scoring 3 field goals to take a 9-7 lead. Then the pressure of playing in ND took hold. The final score was ND 35-14 Bearcats. To many opportunities for the ND offense lead to the loss. The talent level and attimosphere proved to much for the Bearcats young team.

    Week 9: Bearcats @ Louisville

Another great win for the Bearcats, 31-18. The offense had the run game going, earily and often, rushing for over 200 yards in the game. The first confernce win for the Bearcats, their defense was on fire!! Holding the cardinals to 0-7 on 3rd downs. The offense had a 85 yard drive that took over 5 minutes in the 4th quarter for a touchdown to seal the game for the Bearcats. The Bearcats are now 5-2 (1-1), with Syracuse coming to town in week 10. A total team effort against the cardinals.

Tough loss to SU 24-28. The defense gave the Bearcats a chance to win in the 4th quarter, but misques by the qb's cost the team the game. SU played a good game, they were able to convert on several 3rd downs to keep their drives alive and punch the ball into the endzone.

    Week 11: Rutgers vs. Cincinnati

Both teams were able to take the ball to the endzone in the first half. The Bearcats took the lead late in the 2nd quarter 31-21. Then with a stiff defense the Bearcats controlled the second half, keeping Rutgers to only 10 pts. We won the game 51-31. Two big drivers by the offense keep the lead for the team. Qb J. Luallen threw for over 300 yds and 4 td's. A int for a td sealed the deal, late in the 4th quarter. Great win for the Bearcats, especially because of the loss to SU. We are now 7-3, hoping for a bowl bid with 2 games left. We might still be in the hunt for the Big East Championship. Way To Go BEARCATS!!!
