Number of scholarships available is determined by the following 3 things:

    A) 70 - number of players on your roster
    B) number of seniors
    C) 2 player cushion

    And for REDSHIRTING:
    • You can only redshirt 1/3 of guys 76 and higher
    • O Linemen do NOT count in the tally of 76+
    • Cannot redshirt more than 1/2 of players regardless of overall
    • No non-freshman/transfer/juco can redshirt
    • Must have 8 OL not redshirting

    Happy recruiting!

    BIG WEEK IN COLLEGE STATION!
Monster visit week for TAMA against Washington State. 9 visits total with 8 committing and 1 just a week or so from being locked up. 8 down, 12 to go!
    OFFENSE

    G.jpg T.jpg TE.jpg
We start out with the beef on offense. Montgomery fills a need a Guard and should be a dominating starter in the run game. Tremblay is just a step behind him and should also be very good. McGee is a great all around TE. He's not terribly fast but he can do almost everything well and will fit in with the rest of the deep A&M TE corps.
    WR.jpg HB.jpg
Thomas isn't a great receiver but has very good speed and will have time to develop with WRs in front of him. Should end up a solid slot guy with his running skills. McKenzie isn't great either but fills a need a HB and has good speed. Might not ever start but can still help the team.
    ATH1a.jpg ATH1b.jpg
Last but definitely not least on offense there is McCarthy. He might end up with a higher overall as a DB, but his spectacular speed is going to use on offense. He's got good enough running skills and just enough receiving skills.

    DEFENSE

    DE.jpg SS.jpg
Harrison was the DE I really wanted from this class. BIG and really fast. He also has very good skills. Stoval is listed as a FS but will move to SS which is a need this year. He hits like a truck and should be a good nickel safety in run support where his coverage skills wont be too much of a liability.

Tony Lewis needed one more week to weigh his options. Now he's on board. A HUGE gem at +8 he fills a need position at Center. He will be an eventual starter at the position with a few years to mature.
That gives ATM a commit at all three OL positions which is just what they need.

Hogs Have Big Recruiting Day, Class Stands at 12 Currently

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

DE Jesse Carey, the #3 player in this year's class and top-ranked DE, had been on top of Arkansas' recruiting board all year, and the Hogs finally signed him. The Razorback staff was also extremely happy to sign a gem of a MLB in Tremayne Griffin. MLB Joe Cook should also see the field relatively early in his career, as will SS Dominique Jude. MLB Cedrick Green will add some depth to the Linebacker position as the coaches really like his ability to run, but he'll need some time to develop before seeing the field.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

T Scott Dixon was a big get for Arkansas as it fills a need for the Hogs, and Dixon looks to be ready to play right away. FB was also a need for the Hogs and FB Brian Thompson will be counted on early. Home state product G Vince Williams was only a 3-star recruit, but he is much better than advertised. Another "depth guy" is T Kendrick Johnson who could develop into a contributor on the O Line down the road.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Arkansas signed two athletes that could play on either side of the ball. Kevin Woodard has the skills to play CB, but will likely get a chance to play WR first. JUCO signee Chris Perry has excellent coverage skills and shoud fit nicely at corner, but he could see time elsewhere if neeeded.

The Hogs also picked up a commitment from Kicker Chris Beverly from Grapevine, TX. Beverly is the #12 K in the country and has a strong leg. Next week's game will see several more recruits visiting Fayetteville, and hopefully lead to another strong recruiting week for the Hogs.

    Filling the Aggie Coffers!

    OFFENSE
    QB.jpg WR1.jpg FB.jpg
Two years in a row TAMU has brought more of a pocket passer type of QB. It's hard to pass up a good arm with above average speed. There will be a log jam in a few years with the QBs from the last few years but it should work itself out. We will at least be prepared if someone decides to transfer out.
Tatum is a great WR prospect with some size, good speed potential and very good receiving skills. Bringing in a few stud WRs a year Penn State style!
Wheeler likely wants to play HB or WR, but he will end up at FB even though his blocking will probably be terrible.

    DEFENSE
    LB.jpg CB.jpg SS.jpg
Taylor, the #1 OLB, was a priority target this season. Stolen away from FSU, Florida, and Miami who all really wanted him to stay in-state. He will be a beast in the near future. Love is all you need at corner. I was very happy to see his speed and overall jump as much as it did. Chandler is an interesting prospect. Much better tackler than in coverage. Instead of being buried for multiple years as SS, and possibly being recruited over, he's got just enough size to move up to LBer! He wont ever have elite strength but his coverage abilities will be a huge plus instead of a possible weakness at safety.
    ATH1a.jpg ATH1b.jpg
Finally, a great athlete who could start at both WR and DB. Since a few similarly talented true receivers have already signed on Norton Anti-Virus will end up at FS. Hopefully his catching abilities will lead to a bunch of INTs!

Still 4 more slots to fill with some tight battles to win.

    OHIO STATE RECRUITING UPDATE
In his first season back as the head ball coach in Columbus, coach Speyer has given the Buckeyes a shot in the arm with a solid recruiting effort despite a drop in prestige that occurred during the coaches' 1-year hiatus, and a rise in prominence of conference rivals Wisconsin and Penn State. With 12 commits thus far, Ohio State ranks as the sixth best recruiting class, though there is work yet to be done. Here's a look at some of the special talent coming to the banks of the Olentangy next year.

    T.Y. Suggs -- 5 star Athlete
    Key Attributes: 81 overall -- 90 speed -- 85 accel -- 90 throw power -- 78 throw accuracy -- 85 elusiveness
    [IMG]
    The Impact:
Just the second big-name quarterback to ever sign with Speyer, Suggs is considerably more athletic than current QB Elijah Canaan with similar arm strength. The Buckeyes employed a quarterback run-centric offense when Braxton Miller was running the show, and it's probable that Ohio State will use Suggs in the running game at least a little more than they do with Canaan now. This change in philosophy could come as soon as next season, as it's doubtful that Canaan returns for his senior season with his four favorite targets, two halfbacks and four linemen all graduating. If the O'Brien finalist does bolt, look for Speyer to give Suggs a baptism by fire on what should be an extremely young and unproven Buckeye squad next season.

Bishop Hicks -- 5 star HB
    Key Attributes: 78 overall -- 95 speed -- 94 acceleration -- 93 agility -- 91 elusiveness
    [IMG]

The Impact: Hicks joins Suggs as a freshman that will be looked upon to have an instant impact in Columbus next season. With essentially every playmaker turning pro, Ohio State will need the big-play ability from the 5-foot-9 scat back from Kentucky who chose Ohio State over the likes of Penn State and Notre Dame. Hicks has a smaller frame, and Speyer has had mixed results from those types of running backs. Of course, Dontre Wilson was a smaller scat type and he won the Heisman while playing a hybrid role. But Aaron Jenkins, who was thought to be the perfect successor for Wilson, has largely been a disappointment in his four-year career. The Buckeyes will likely use Hicks more like Wilson -- as a WR/HB hybrid -- especially next season as rising-junior Erik Reyes looks promising as a bell cow back.

Parrish Gaines -- 5 star OLB
    Key Attributes: 80 overall -- 80 speed -- 91 acceleration -- 84 tackle -- 81 pursuit -- 80 zone coverage
    [IMG]

The Impact: Gaines is the standout defender on a class that has been offensive-centric thus far. The Alabama native joins a lineage of top-rated linebackers to sign with Speyer, following the likes of Taylor West, Juju Payne, DeAmontae Lucier and Aaron Anderson. But depth in the second level is thin right now, as the recruiting results took a major dip a season ago. Gaines has all of the athleticism in the world, and will be a welcome addition as the Buckeyes look to replace three-year starter Juju Payne, the most athletic linebacker Speyer has used at the position to date.

    Rounding out the Class
WR Ermon Dupree - 79 overall
    T Justin Clark - 80 overall
    G William Branch - 79 overall
    C Will Price - 79 overall
CB Anthony Allen - 70 overall
CB Pete Hall - 70 overall
ATH Samual Barber - 70 overall
ATH Tyrin Davis - 70 overall
ATH Andre Taylor - 73 overall

    Hogs Add 4 More

The Razorbacks were able to pick up four more recruits in the past few weeks. WR Trey Jordan was a gem of a player that the Hogs got on late but were able to sign. While not the fastest receiver out there, Jordan has a nice first step, runs great routes, and catches nearly anything thrown his way. WR Kyle Walker is a similar player but with slightly better speed and good but not elite hands. OLB Kelvin Johnson is an interesting signing for Arkansas. He didn't live up to the hype, but the coaching staff was intrigued with his speed so he was offered a scholarship. He will likely redshirt so he can improve with coaching, as the Hogs hope he can reach his initial 4-star rated potential. QB John Archie "Manning" was another player that the Razorback staff got on late, but he is a welcome addition to this class. The Hogs weren't really looking for a QB, but buzz surrounding the possible early departure of current QB Kelly Scott persuaded them to sign Archie. He should fit in nicely with a nice mix of speed and a strong arm, but shouldn't be asked to play too early with 3 QB's on the current roster still having eligibility. The coaches were happy to find a talent like Archie as insurance should they lose a QB early to the pros or a transfer.

cmassey13 I would have given you a run for your money with Walker if I had enough slots open. He's going to be pretty good especially with a few years seasoning. All good signings. Give Kelvin and Archie a few years and they will contribute.

I'm feeling pretty good about this class. Signed 4 80 ovr, 3 79 ovr, and 3 78 ovr so far with a shot at two more 79 ovr players in the off season. If only I wasn't graduating 22 guys. Hopefully I can pick up a few more commits in the offseason, but I'm pretty sure I'll get at least one of the studs left on my board.
