Ok so claven has a thought about how to stop this 'rent-a-player' deal that a few guys are discussing. Basically where a owner puts a big bonus on a player and cuts as a mandy cut the next year, getting out scott free. IMO its not a huge deal, but could be if guys like dunlap catch on.

    So here is his suggestion.

Basically we set a number, whatever number we pick (5 mill, 10 mill, 8 mill, whatever) and if a player is being cut from a mandy, surpasses that number, then that owner takes whatever amount over the number we set, as a cap hit. If that player is under the number we set, then they cut with no cap hit like normal.

So if a owner pays a player 15 mill in bonus for one year and wants to cut him as a mandy cut the next year and our number is 10 mill, then he would take a 5 mill cap hit on that player and the rent-a-player issue isn't as big of a issue.

    I personally like it.

I like it. what number are we thinking? Personally, my 3 cuts were all from guys who were making the minimum anyway, so I'm used to that. I think it really shouldn't even be that much over whatever is normal, which I suppose is maybe $5 million

I say go half between 5 and 10, anything over 7.5 mill. Cause if you have a 3 mod (normal mod, not high as qb, not low like FS) and you pay 3 mill, thats 9 mill cap hit and thats not a high bonus imo. maybe 10 is the better number.

I think we are going to have a lot of ties.... and to me, i think making them keep the guy for mutiple seasons is a better solution because guys with cap space will just rent regardless... something simular to what we do with Rookies not being traded their first year

well its not fair to new guys taking over new teams, or things changing or not working out. imo if you do this, you force guys to eat up cap. I am fine with a lower number if 10 is too high. i am very flexible on that part, but i feel this is a must.

If a guy leaves a team, your going to have the same issue if they cut him, they are going to have the penalty correct?

yes but with the penalty it will keep guys from doing it imo. guys are saying they are going to spend 35 mill for one year on moss, with a 3 mill cap on salary then that means its a 32 mill bonus, with this they wont do that.

I like this for a short term solution but i think for madden 12 we need to add a 2 yr minimum for fas.

But for now 7.5mill is a good number

Could we make it an even number at 8 million? The less math some folks have to do, the better, if you get my drift...

I do like the idea though. Any cap hit of a player over 8 million (or whatever) you take the difference as a cap hit for signing a crazy bonus.

Think that would limit crazy FA spending a LOT.
