    Week 1 preview

Match Day 1 Athletic Bilbao at Boca Juniors
Match Day 2 Hannover 96 at Boca Juniors
Match Day 3 QPR at Boca Juniors

    -La Boca, Argentina

"Buenas noches, estare respondendio a sus preguntas sobre los primeros tres juegos"

    Q: Expectations for this year?

"Good evening, obviously it's to win and gain promotion. It will be tough, but anything less than a promotion spot would be disappointing. We will also be involved in 2 other competitions, the Coppa Tradizione and the Premier cup. We expect to go far in those. Our first and most important goal is to be playing in Serie A for season 12"

Q: Would your style of play change here in Boca, from that of Barça B?

"Yes, somewhat. With Barça we had a very young team. Deulo played out of his mind. With this team there is a lot more talent and mature players. I expect to play attacking and build up football. We will change it up from time to time"

Q: Thoughts on the Serie B competition?

    "It will be tough"

Q: Any opponent that you're itching to play?

"All of them. Some games will feature open gameplay others will be a tactical battle. Should be a great season"

Q: What will the opening 11 be?

"As of now I know Orion will be in net, we will go with four defenders Erbes, Diaz, Burdisso, Insua, five mids Rodriguez, Gago, Ledesma, Miño, Riquelme and up front Gigliotti.

New division, same result. Boca proved to be too much for Athletic Bilbao on this night. ST Emanuel Gigliotti played a near perfect game as he was directly involved in all three goals. Athletic Bilbao seemed slow on the pitch, with many mistakes. They almost came close to tying the game in the first half, but a header from Susaeta went right over the top crossbar. 2nd half was all Boca, chance after chance, until Gigliotti slotted his 2nd goal home. Ribair Rodriguez would seal the deal with a goal from outside the box. Up next for Boca are home games against Hannover 96 and QPR.

"Tough game that, scoreboard says 3-0 but it was tough. Bilbao played well, didn't take advantage of their chances. We did. In soccer whoever scores more wins. Tonight it was us. Gigliotti is a helluva player, hopefully he keeps this up. Bilbao came out fast, used a lot of wing play. The crosses played a factor, as it was another threat we had to stop. Tonight we couldn't, did a great job in the middle but that always left a winger open. Both Insua and Erbes did their best to get in front of the cross. We stopped a couple, others got through and Diaz handled them perfectly. When a team can score from outside the box and the cross, then it makes it more difficult on the defense. Good thing for us that Fernando Llorente moved on. He probably would've beat us in a couple of those. We look forward to the next matches, if we could get 4 points we would be happy. Can't lose 3 points this early on."

The game began with Boca controlling the ball. In the 6th minute Juan Sanchez Miño made a lovely run, evading 6 of the Hannover defenders, his shot though went well wide of the 2nd post. For the rest of the half Boca would control possession, finishing the first half with a 58%-42% edge. The first goal of the match came in the 41st minute, Boca had been trying to work the middle all throughout the match, until Insua tried to get a cross in that was blocked. The corner kicked that followed was headed in by G. Burdisso.

The 2nd half was far more open, Hannover couldn't come close to goal. They did register their first shot of the game early in the 2nd. Sadly that was the last shot that they would get on the day. Boca Juniors shut them down. An Emanuel Gigliotti goal, 4th so far, sealed the win for the Xeineze. A lovely shot from outside the box.

"It was a tough match. We knew it would be. Last season we were held to two draws. It feels good to win. Gigliotti is on fire. Another clean sheet. Lovely. A complete game by Boca."

Is it better to be lucky or good? How about both. QPR went into La Bombonera and stole a point. Literally. Boca would begin the game attack after attack, almost took the lead before 20 minutes had been played but Insua's shot hit the crossbar. Boca would keep attacking, their defense held their own as well. Keeping QPR without the shot after one half. 2nd half was much of the same, with a more open type of game. Boca would finally take the lead in the 64th minute after a Riquelme shot was saved and landed right in the path of Gigliotti, for his 3rd goal of the year. QPR would attempt to come back, however they were denied time after time. Until the 79th minute when a long ball played up top and received by C. Austin led to their goal. He one timed it to J. Barton who would kick it from far out and beat the goalie. Barton, being himself, celebrated as if they had won some sort of silverware. It's fair to say that the Xeneize will be marking that date that they travel to Loftus road.

"This one is tough to swallow. We played a great game, had many outstanding chances. Scored once. We deserved all 3 points. Sadly, we end up with 1. The good news is that we did take 7 of the first 9 points. For now we will work on our offense. We look forward to the Coppa match and the next 3 games for next week"

The 1st game of group E came and went. HokieNYC and Dinamo Moskva travelled to Argentina to take on Boca Juniors. The match was dull at best. The first half went by with no shots, from either side. The best chance to open up the scoring came in the 57th minute went J. Riquelme played a great ball through F. Cangele who blasted it an inch off the goal post. Seven minutes later Dinamo Moskva would go on to take the lead from a corner kick. Douglas beat the defender and the goalie over the top. Boca would keep on trying to equalize, they finally got their goal. In the 90th minute F. Gago played a cross into L. Paredes who would beat the defender and the goalie.

"We stole a point out of nowhere tonight. That corner goal was devastating. We had controlled much of the game and up to that point had the better chance to score. We will take the draw, can't lose points this early in the tourney"
