College Football is an Offensive Game

I've seen so many people say they prefer defense over offense. I don't have a problem with that although I do take offense when they attach the idea that "real" football guys prefer defense.

The NFL is a different animal from college. The average NFL team scores around 21 points while a college team scores around 27. Even when you take out the creampuffs on the schedule, college games are more offensive oriented which I like. Seven of the last ten national champions scored over 30 points in the championship game. Why is that a bad thing for some people?

There is a poll on OS asking whether you would want NCAA 11 to be more offensive oriented or defensive oriented. The results are overwhelmingly in favour of defense (22 to 4 last I checked for those two options). I personally prefer watching a game where both teams combine for 50+ points as opposed to two teams scoring under 30. I find it more frustrating to watch bad offense vs. bad defense. Same goes for video games. Not being able to score is more frustrating to me than not being able to stop the opponent. Am I alone on this?

defense man.. winning by a goaline stand or stopping a team on 4th down to win it will always taste better than a win by 100.. i guess that just comes from only playing defense since 8th grade lol

I don't prefer either...I just want a realistic representation of football.

That said, I find it far more frustrating to not be able to stop my opponent than not be able to score.

    --

I went and looked at the user game data from when I had the rankings system up.

    COUNT 127
    AVERAGE 27.79133858

So, we recorded 127 user games, and the average user scored 27.79 in user games.

So, that is 0.79 higher than last football season.

    --

I wonder what the average User vs CPU score in our leagues are.

Sorry, not really related but interesting.

I need defense in my life in video games lol Nothing is more annoying than being totally helpless on defense, then it comes down to who has the ball last. I just want ratings to be accurately effective, especially with the way the CPU plays.

Those numbers are pretty darn good for your league.

I remember a quote from Bobby Bowden. He said he's rather be losing late in the game but with the ball in his hands and a chance to win than be winning but having to rely on his defense to pull it out.

I am a stat freak I like a D that racks up the tackles. I think a low scoring game that is a chess match back and forth is more fun to be a part of.

I love to watch good defenses play. My favorite NFL team to watch is probably the Baltimore Ravens. I'm not even a fan of them (or all their Miami brothren), but I just love to see a ferocious defense play and put their hats on people.

In NCAA though, I don't think guys want to see low scoring games. We just want it to play like it should. For instance, I had a CB at UF a couple of seasons ago who was 99's across the board. Yet he'd routinely get burnt by 80 overall WRs. Makes no sense.

The coin toss to find out who gets the ball to start the 2nd half shouldn't be the most important aspect of user vs user gameplay. I bet if you ran a study correlating who got the ball to start the 2nd half to win percentage, the evidence wouldn't be close to 50%.
