The Battle for the Iron Skillet College Game Day Week 1 First off I'd like to say welcome to season 2 everybody, what a great year we had last year and this year looks to be even bigger. This season here on College Game Day we are taking a whole new look at everything College Football as we will be following 12 coaches, for the upcoming 2012 season. We will follow everything these coaches do, interview them, their players, and most of all dissect everything they do throughout the season. All 12 of these coaches are up against a top 25 team to start the season and we can easily separate the contenders from the pretenders. Before we get into the games, lets take a look at all of our coaches. Indiana Hoosiers-(Alemic92) Arkansas State Red Wolves-(jgwf4u2784) Eastern Michigan Eagles-(redwings8331) SMU Mustangs-(C_Breezy803) Mid Tennessee State Blue Raiders-(titangator) San Diego State Aztecs-(Rice4114) Western Michigan Broncos-(jmtoast) UAB Blazers-(bkhogfan51) Idaho Vandals-(rwhales30) North Texas Mean Green-(carolinachaos82) New Mexico Lobos-(Bill_36) Army Black Knights-(Raider_Outlaw) These are the 12 coaches we will be highlighting this year, and we wish them the best of luck in the upcoming season. Now lets get down to Business. Week 1 Match-Ups: @ This one should be interesting as the Red Wolves had a disappointing season last year however at times showed signs of growth. We all know Florida State goes into every season overrated. Ive got the Red Wolves going up 10-0 early, then falling flat on their face. Florida State 31 Arkansas State 17 @ The option attack at Army has been giving defenses fits for years, they look to do the same in 2012 and start off with a big match up against #4 Wisconsin. If they are able to keep the Badgers on their heels, they can walk away with the victory. Army 24 Wisconsin 17 @ In an all Michigan match up Eastern Michigan takes visit to the #23 Michigan Wolverines. Eastern Michigan collapsed at the end of last season losing the MAC title game and the huge let down against West Virginia. Look for them to play all out in this game but come up just short. Michigan 35 Eastern Michigan 31 @ The Idaho Vandals last year were under control of head coach Alemic, finishing the season with 2 straight losses missing out on a bowl game by 1 game. Can the recent coaching changes shake things up? With the lack of talent its hard to see the Vandals staying close. Stanford 28 Idaho 7 @ With a new coach the Hoosiers look to travel back into the Big 10 and take on the Buckeyes in the shoe. A new coach might bring hope to folks in Indiana however the lack of talent is going to keep him up all night and hurting after his week 1 beating. Ohio State 49 Indiana 14 @ Last year Middle Tennessee State shocked the nation by taking the Sun Belt title. With a new coach this year they hope to build off of that success and just like our other 12 coaches are up against a tough team. #12 Ole Miss will play host MTSU look here for your upset of the year. Middle Tennessee State 28 Ole Miss 14 @ The old Middle Tennessee State coach left after just one year to take over New Mexico. The Lobo's are excited to see what this new coach can do here and honestly he has us talking here at College Game Day. Look for New Mexico to take down Washington week 1. New Mexico 35 Washington 31 @ North Texas gained a new head coach late last year, and he hopes to build this program into a national power house. There are many questions surrounding this team and hopefully they will be answered week 1 with a visit to Oregon State. Beavers take this one big. Oregon State 42 North Texas 17 @ San Diego State comes into this season hoping for big things, and with good reason. Their first week match up looks impossible on the surface but everybody knows Virginia Tech struggles early on in the season and that the ACC can be overrated at times. Virginia Tech 21 San Diego State 19 @ In what is being pinned as the Battle for Alabama UAB goes down to Tuscaloosa too take on the Crimson Tide. This one is most likely going to get ugly and fast, the Crimson tide are the defending national champs and its hard to see them losing to a brand new coach. Alabama 56 UAB 21 @ Western Michigan had a disappointing year last season however their coach was sick for most of the season and he is back and in good health this season. Look for WMU to take on a whole new attitude this season and put up a big fight against Pitt. Pittsburgh 56 Western Michigan 42 Now its time for the game of the week, The Battle for the Iron Skillet. Matching up the SMU Mustangs against the TCU Hornfrogs. This game has some history and true fans and followers of the schools will remember In 1935, the SMU Mustangs were ranked No.1 in the country, and played second-ranked TCU and its star quarterback Sammy Baugh for the unofficial national championship. The winner would earn the right to play in the Rose Bowl against Stanford on Jan. 1, 1936. This rivalry has a lot of history behind it and this year looks to be no different. Keys to the Game: The Mustangs will look to air it out on offense in order to beat TCU at their own game. Rarely will the Mustangs take to the ground, relying on the short passing as their form of the running game. Look for 40+ passing attempts, and the game will rest on the QB and WR's. The defense will look to keep pressure on the Hornfrogs all day hoping to keep them off balance by mixing up the formations and blitzes. Much like the Mustangs the Hornfrogs will take to the air as their main form of offense. However unlike the Mustangs they do have the ability to run, and they use the pass to set up the run. If they are able to catch the Mustangs out of position they will take advantage of it. On defense they will look to use their superior talent with a lot of man coverage and mixing in the occasional zone blitz. Prediction: The Mustangs will keep this one close to start, but once the second half comes around the talent and depth of the Hornfrogs take over. Final Score: TCU 28 SMU 14 Good luck everybody in week 1, and have fun.
