Nearing 100 years of annual competition, Texas Christian makes the less than one hour trip to Southern Methodist as the #5 ranked Horn Frogs take on the Mustangs. It's rumored that SMU is to blame for this heated rivalry. As the legend says, this trophy game originated from an SMU fan cooking frog leg's outside the stadium pre-game in the earlier half of the 20th century. The TCU fan that witnessed this saw it as a gesture gone too far, and said that the team who won the game should get the skillet, and the frog legs.

TCU has a very, very slight edge in this series, 41-39-7. SMU was a dominating force in the earlier years of college football, but the program has fallen from grace over the last 50 years, while TCU's popularity and talent has sky rocketed. In the last 12 years, SMU has managed to beat the Horned Frog's just one time. In 2005 SMU beat a 24th ranked TCU team in a monstrous upset.

This year, the odds are even more stacked against the Mustangs. TCU is in national title contention if they manage to run the tables, which is certainly likely with their schedule.

"We're no stepping stone," Coach Brown, the newly appointed Head Coach of the Mustangs said proudly in front of a stadium full of SMU fans, students, alumni and academic professors. "We've got the talent to make this happen. This is without a doubt the biggest game this school has had in a long, long time. I'm not going to stand up here and promise you a win, but I can tell you that those toads are in for a whole lot more than they're expecting!" he proclaimed, the crowd erupting wildly.

SMU is plagued by injuries as they're missing their starting Half-Back Zach Line, third Wide Receiver Cole Beasely, and second on the depth chart Defensive Back JR McConcio. However, star Sophomore quarterback Kyle Padron leads the NCAA in passing yards and has a slew of talented receivers to spread the ball around to.

TCU has a well balanced attack with Senior Quarterback Andy Dalton throwing for 400+ yards, 4 TD's and 0 int's. Starting running back Matthew Tucker is averaging just over 5 yards per carry. A stout defense is also carrying TCU this season.

And now, it's time for Corso's mascot headgear pick! And it is.....

This should be a great game. If your offense can overcome an elite TCU defense you could pull it off.

An obviously emotional Coach Brown was carried off Ford Field after the unranked SMU Mustangs pulled off one of their greatest wins in school history this Saturday, toppling the nationally ranked #5 Texas Christian Horned Frogs. As the Mustangs kneeled on the ball to run the clock, the field was rushed by a sea of red as fan's hopped guard rails to celebrate with the first year coach and his players. Police managed to take the field goal post's down before they were torn down by excited fans.

Camera's followed the team inside their locker room where it was all smiles, hollering and hugging. There was no post game speech, just celebration. As he was leaving the stadium, an "all smiles" Coach Brown was heard telling reports "I just can't believe it really happened, it still hasn't sunk in. I just wanted to give the boys, and maybe myself, a chance to really take it in, to celebrate with one another and just share in each others happiness."

The pace was set early as each team held one another to a 3 and out. The difference however, came on special teams. A punt from SMU bounced at the 5 yard line, rolling out of bounds just inches from the endzone line. Two plays later, SMU managed to force a safety to take a 2-0 lead. On the onside punt, TCU's punter kicked the ball out of bounds giving SMU a great starting point at the 50 yard line. Padron immediately went for the kill shot and hooked up with Haness on a 50 yard strike to take a 9-0 lead. A lead they would never relinquish.

The Mustangs improve to a 4-0 record under Sophomore standout Kyle Padron who leads the NCAA in passing yards. He's been having a rough time against the tougher teams however as far as throwing interceptions is concerned. He's nearly top of the NCAA in that aspect as well. A reporter managed to ask Coach Brown if he was worried about Padron's bad decision making with the ball.

"Bad decision making? The kid's thrown for 300+ yards in every game. 400+ in all but one of them. Every time he throws an interception, he comes right back out and drives our team down the field for a score like it never happened. That, in my opinion, is one of the ultimate characteristics of a quarterback. The fact that we've got that in Kyle and he's only 19 years old... This kids going to have a full trophy case at home before his career is over here. I wouldn't take him off the field if he threw 10 picks in one game. His mind set is to push the ball down the field, and I'll let him do that anytime."

Will SMU be a nationally ranked top 25 team now? You've got to think that starting off their season beating Texas Tech in lubbock, and now upsetting the #5 Horned Frogs would certainly warrant the argument!

This was the scene as the Mustangs killed the clock.

Very impressive win for SMU. SMU proved the critics on Gameday wrong and pulled off a dominate performance. The Mustangs may be the first team in the history of Zeroes to Heroes to break into the top 25. Congrats again on a great win bro.
