News & Inside Information on
Your place for a breaking news and updates on the Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis - On this slow afternoon just hours before the next advance of HK-NG there is breaking word coming out of the Colts camp. First it is being reported and was confirmed bu the Colts owner that Indy and SS Antoine Bethea have agreed on a new contract extension that will keep him in a Colts uniform for least 4 more years.
But in other news it is being reported by several sources that the Colts offensive coordinator, Pep Hamilton, will not be retained at the end of the season. Hamilton before coming to Indianapolis spent the last three seasons at Stanford University (2010-12), his last two as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He worked closely with current Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. When asked to confirm Head Coach Chuck Pagano directed all questions to the front office saying "I cant discuss those type of things, that is what the front office handles". When pressed Coach Pagano would say "It is obvious we are not were any of us in this organization want to be on offense and that falls on me along with the front office to correct". When asked the owner of the Colts would only say "every aspect of this organization will be re-evaluated at the end of the season. And if we need to make changes we will, but right now we are focused on trying to win our last few games before the season end".
Colts Hire New Offensive Coordinator
Indianapolis - The Colts today released a statement to the media announcing that they had agreed to terms and have hired Chris Ault to be their new offensive coordinator. Ault who has 233 career wins spent over 20 years at Nevada as head coach and this past year in Kansas City as a consultant agreed to come to Indy and help revive the struggling Colts offense. Ault who is known for developing the pistol offense will hope to bring an offense that effectively use power run plays, counters along with using three-wide receiver formations or multiple tight ends. The Colts are expecting this diversified offense to help support their defense which developed into one the leagues best and led the Colts back to the playoffs.
Colts Looking for Improvement
Looking at the final 2013 stats its easy to see that the Colts need a jump start in their offensive production. Looking at the numbers a few things jump right out.
First the 40 Ints have got to cut at-least in half. The 62% completion ratio is workable and 2600 yards for a non-pass first offense is ok but giving the ball away 40 times or 2.5 per game i just not winning football. On a positive the 1000 yards rushing by Trent and 12 Tds should increase with the addition of Coach Ault.
On defense if we cn get resigned the major peices in the off-season we should see an improvement to one of the top rated units in the league.
Colts Trade for Kirkpatrick
During the opening stages of the Free Agent hunt the Colts were finalizing a deal with the Bengals that would bring DB Dre Kirkpatrick to Indy in return the Bengals would receive one the two 2nd round picks the Colts were holding in this years draft. With the acquisition of Kirkpatrick the Colts are looking to solidify their secondary although what his role will be has not finalized as there was talk of seeing Kirkpatrick moving to one of the safety positions. In a brief statement on the acquisition of Kirkpatrick the Colts said "We are very pleased to have Dre join us in Indy. We have been very pleased with his abilities and work ethics and we know that he has a excellent football foundation due to his training in college under Coach Saban at Alabama".
Franchise Updates Heading into Season 3
After the rough season 1 in which the Colts went 7-9 the Colts hired Chris Ault to the led the offense. In the season 2 sim the Colts saw their record improve to 12-4 and lost in the AFC Divisional Round to the Houston Texans. Under the direction of Ault, Andrew Luck saw his production increase from 2698 yards to 3738 yards but more importantly the Int were reduced from 40 to 16. Trent Richardson for the 2nd year in a row hit the 1000 yard mark as he ended with 1238 yards. Going into season 3 the Colts are looking to improve but alot will depend on how the new pieces blend in with the returning veterans. Since the end of season 1 the Colts have seen a few significant changes occur to their personnel. The Colts saw the retirements of WR Reggie Wayne and DE Cory Redding, but that was offset by the acquisition on RG Alex Boone who helps secure the Colts line. Season 3 looks to be a very stressful time for the front office as several key players are entering a contract year.

Colts Defeat Ravens 19-14 to Open Season 3
The Colts traveled to Baltimore for opening day of Season 3. The Colts were looking to build off last season sim which saw they Indianapolis finish the year 12-4. The Colts offense moved the ball very effectively all game as Luck threw for 204 yards and 1 TD and Richardson added 103 yards on the ground. But the Ravens defense did a good job of stopping the Colts inside the red zone as Indy settled for 4 FGs on the day. But it was the Colts defense that shinned as they held the Ravens to 38 yards rushing while forcing 4 turnovers on the day. The biggest came late in the game as Indy clung to a 5 points lead and Baltimore was driving. But LaRon Laundry delivered a crush tackle and forced a fumble killing the Ravens drive and allowed the Colts to run out the clock.

Colts Trade for O-Lineman Webb
After defeating the Ravens in week1 the Colts traded their 2nd pick in this years draft to the Vikings for offensive lineman J'Marcus Webb. With the addition of Webb this should solidify the Colts line and help protect Luck and create running lanes for Trent as Indy continues to grow under the Ault system.
Colts Win Division & Home Opener 47-10
The Colts returned from Baltimore and learned they acquired the services of Webb from the Vikings just as they were preparing to face Divisional rival Tennessee in Indy's home opener. The Colts behind the restructured line got off to a good start as they took the opening kickoff and methodically drove the field and scored to go up 7-0. The Colts defense feeding off the offenses product stopped the explosive Titan offense and gave the ball back to their offense. The Colts once again methodically drove the field and went up 14-0 on the Titans. The game continued in this direction ad the Colts line created nice running lanes that allowed Richardson to rush for 27 yards on 25 carries and also allowed his backup Micheal Smith to rush for 113 more yards. Luck was very productive as he went 8 of 9 for 165 yards and more importantly no interceptions. The Colts defense also tuned in a nice game as they limited Johnson to 34 yards on 7 carries and were able to pick off Jerelic 5 times. Overall it was a good win, but only 1 win and still a long long season ahead.

Colts Fall in Foxboro 17-10 to Pats
The Colts traveled to Foxboro to face its old nemesis the New England Patriots in a game where somebody would receive their 1st loss of the season. As the two teams slugged it out the Colts were having troubles matching up with Gronk and Finley as they combined for 92 yards and 1 TD. But the Colts tried to stay the course and continued to plug away with their game plan and drove to inside the Patriots 20 with less than a minute reaming and trailing by 7 points. Facing a 4th and 3 the Colts ran a short pass play for Fleener who was open for the 1st down but unfortunately Luck drilled the Colts left tackle in the back of the head with the ball and the Colts chance of forcing overtime was gone.

Jets Man Handle Colts 20-7
On the heels of the sudden retirement of offensive coordinator Chris Ault the Colts hosted the NY Jets as a team in need of an identity. The Jets on the other hand knew exactly who they were and proceeded to pound away at the Indy defense while the Colts offense struggled to move the ball. By the end of the game the Jets running game had pounded out 143 yards rushing and let the Jets to a 20-7 win over the Colts. After the game the coaching staff and owner met to try and determine where they needed to go with the departure of Ault.

Colts Hire Marcus Arroyo to be New Offensive Coordinator
Early this morning the Indianapolis Colts released a press release announcing Marcus Arroyo as their new offensive coordinator to replace the sudden departure of Chris Ault and the ultimate demise of the Colts new Pistol offense. Arroyo who had just joined the Buccaneers as quarterback coach when the Colts swayed him away to make him offensive coordinator for the Colts. Arroyo comes to the Colts with 10 years of coaching experience, most recently having spent the 2013 season as the offensive coordinator/outside receivers coach at the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to his time with the Golden Eagles, Arroyo worked two seasons under Tedford at the University of California, first as quarterbacks coach in 2011 followed by a promotion to pass game coordinator in 2012.
Under Arroyo’s guidance, Cal quarterback Zach Maynard secured the No. 10 position in school history in both passing yards (5,204) and total offense (5,350) in only two seasons. His 128.36 career passer efficiency rating is eighth on the school’s all-time list. Cal had a much improved offense in 2011 during Arroyo's first year of working with the team's quarterbacks, especially in the passing game. The Golden Bears jumped from No. 94 in 2010 (175.08 ypg) to No. 46 in 2011 (246.62 ypg) and from No. 90 (334.00 ypg) to No. 44 (401.46 ypg) in total offense. In addition, Cal moved up 20 spots to No. 53 nationally in scoring, improving from 25.8 points per game the previous season to 28.3.
Prior to joining Cal, Arroyo served for two seasons at Wyoming as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2009 and 2010 campaigns. He helped develop 2009 true freshman quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels into the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year and the Offensive MVP of the 2009 New Mexico Bowl. Arroyo made a significant impact in his first season at Wyoming in 2009 when he installed a new spread offense that helped the Cowboys score 30 or more points five times, winning all five of those games. Prior to his stint at Wyoming, Arroyo served four years at his alma mater, San Jose State, as co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach from 2007-08, quarterbacks coach in 2007 and as an offensive graduate assistant in 2005.
Arroyo began his collegiate coaching career in 2003, serving as an undergraduate assistant coach at his alma mater for one year. In 2004, he was the offensive coordinator at Prairie View A&M. Arroyo played quarterback at San Jose State in 1998 and from 2000-02. He finished his career among the Spartans' all-time leaders in passing yards (No. 9, 4,603), total offense yards (No. 9, 4,525) and passing efficiency (No. 10, 115.6).

The Colts were looking to get their legs underneath them as they tried to adjust to Marcus Arroyo but in the end the Dolphins proved too much for the Colts. Despite throwing for 291 yards, Luck threw 4 costly Ints which the Colts could not over come. Trent showed he can still thrive in this new system as he rushed for 80 yards on 9 carries.

Colts Hang on to Down Vikings 31-26
The Colts traveled to Minnesota to face the Vikings in a game that Indy needed badly to stop their 2 game slide. The Colts came into the game hoping to have a better grasp on the offense and limit turnovers. For much of the game the Colts offense moved effectively behind Lucks 275 yards passing on 18 completions. Things got dicey late as HB Smith fumbled at the Vikings 1 yard line late in the 4th Qtr only to see returned for a TD. But after recovering the onside kick the Colts were able hang on for a 31-26 win.

Colts Defeat Lions 23-13 to Improve to 5-4
The Colts and the Lions meet in a game where both teams were looking to fill the air with footballs while yet still trying to control the clock. When it was all over the two teams combined for 63 passes and 539 yards. In the end the difference in this game came down to 2 key items. First the Colts were able to force the Lions to settle for FGs on 3 different occasions after seeing them drive into scoring range and a wide open dropped TD in the 2nd half that would have cut the Colts lead to 1 score. But regardless of the how they got there the Colts were pleased with the win.

Colts Rally to Defeat Packers 27-17
The Colts entered the game with Green Bay looking to extend their win streak to 3 games but the Colts knew the Packers 1-8 record was very deceiving. The Colts offense struggled throughout the game despite throwing for 333 yards, as the Packers kept the Colts offense out of sync much of the game. The Packers disrupted the Colts offensive flow and pressured Luck into 2 Ints and while also recording 4 sacks. But fortunately for the Colts their defense kept them in the game as they gave up some yards but kept the Packers out of the end zone most of the game. The Colts took the lead in the 4th Qtr when they caught the Packers blitzing and luck connected with Williams on a 58 yard Td and the Colts were able to hold on for a 27-17 win.
