So it appears the west division is kicking the east division's ass right now. 4 teams in the west have 1 conference loss and only 1 team in the east has one conference loss. We are now past halfway through conference play and almost nobody knows which 2 teams will play in the conference championship, and nobody knows where that game will be played. East Division Contenders 1. UCF - 3-1 - UCF is the favorite to take the east division crown with their 3-1 conference record. The Knights have yet to play divisional foes ECU and Southern Miss. 2. Southern Miss - 2-2 - Southern Miss is 2-2 and has had some rough defeats. They were able to knock of a talented SMU squad. They face ECU and UCF in what will make or break their season. 3. ECU - 2-2 - ECU's two conference losses were both to west division teams so they are still very alive in the conference race. Last week's loss to Tulane was painful, but they can make up for it by beating Southern Miss at home this week. The schedule won't be easy with S.Miss, UTEP, and UCF still left. West Division Contenders 1. SMU - 4-1 - SMU has already beaten 2 of the best teams in the CUSA with wins over UTEP and UCF, but had a bad loss to Southern Miss. They still have 2 huge games remaining against Houston and Tulane. Tulane travels to Dallas this week in one of the biggest games of the season for the conference race. 2. UTEP - 3-1 - UTEP lost to SMU, but has beaten Houston and Tulane. Sitting at 3-1, they have a great shot to win the west because the major divisional games have passed. They still play eastern division teams in ECU and UCF. If they win out, the UCF game may decide the winner of the west division. 3. Houston - 4-1 - Houston is sitting pretty, but there is much doubt because of weak non-conference performances. A blowout loss to UCLA and a squeaker to New Mexico raise doubts. Tulane and SMU are still on the schedule. They lost to UTEP, so they will need somebody to knock off the Miners. 4. Tulane 4-1 - Tulane only has 1 conference loss, but they are not in the best of shape. They have yet to play SMU or Houston but have already lost to UTEP. If UTEP loses another game which is likely, Tulane has a shot at the title. **I put about 20 minutes into this, so there may be a few inaccuracies.
