I don't know if this has been discussed before, but for the new season, could we possibly alter contract length rules?

Can we designate one or two players (one on offense, one on defense) as franchise players who we can sign to >4 years? 25% bonus rule would still apply to these guys, obviously. 4 year max, 25% bonus rule would stay the same for all other players. This way, there's still roster turnover for the majority of players other than the big franchise guys, just like in real life.

Just thought I'd open it up to discussion and see what others think.

Conversation for all to take part in here.

I don't mind the idea, but I would like to entertain the idea of limiting to three years for non "franchise" players to counter the longer contracts of the stars.

One thing we do in my other league is keep it to 4 years unless player is over 90 overall , if over 90 we capture screen shot to show his demands. I like how it works for the most part , as for FA since we all have same amount of cap I am not a fan of limiting those contracts in any form. Typically the player AI in going to want more bonus than salary , so you can't usually get over in that manner.

    Just my 0.02$

I actually like that idea. I also like the way tmfl does it with things based on ovl and age. if you have a old 90+ player you are really taking a chance as he may regress and are stuck with a huge salary.

    • 90 OVR or GREATER can sign to MAX 5 year deal
    • 89 OVR and BELOW can sign to MAX 4 year deal
    • Players UNDER 30 years old must sign to a min of 30% bonus
    • Players OVER 30 years old must sign to min of 20% bonus
    • Players 30 years old exactly fall into the OVER bracket of 20%
    • Stars 90 OVR or greater must sign to a min of 40% bonus
    • Players 70 OVR or below do not require a bonus

Agree with PhiGuy179 . 40% might be a bit much. Did some researching and a lot of the best players don't have 40% in bonuses. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Willis are both around 31%. Calvin Johnson is only at 14%. Just a few examples.

Other than that, though, I do like what bringbackjimmy said. Gives us some more good guidelines for contracts especially since most of us probably don't want to give [big] bonuses to career backups.

I like it. I agree that we shouldn't go to 40% for 90 ovr. 30% sounds good

If we are going to make these rules we need to make sure people actually follow them and don't just say "oh shit yeah sorry forgot".
