The Ok State Cowboys beat the SMU Mustangs today 49-42. Many believed this would be a blowout game, and that the Ok State starters would sit much of the second half. That wasn't the case in the game that is being called "one of the greatest offensive preformances of all time".

In the first quarter, the Ok State offense was struggling. However, the defense was saving them as they forced two fumbles (both of the ensuing drives were 3 and outs). The SMU offense however, was making the Ok State secondary look like a bunch of high schoolers and finally, late in the first quarter, SMU qb Kyler Pardon connected with Cole Beasley for a 17 yard td pass.

After an INT by Weeden to begin the second quarter, SMU wasted no time getting to work as they drove down the field and the drive was capped off on a 29 yard td pass from Pardon to Johnson, which put SMU up 14-0. On the ensuing possesion for the Cowboys, they would finally get some type of offense going. The drive was capped off by a 29 yard pass from Weeden to Moore, which brought the Cowboys within 7. The Mustangs wasted no time scoring again. They drove right down the field and scored on a 7 yard wass from Pardon to Johnson with just 41 seconds left in the half. But Ok State wasn't done just yet. After a few big plays they were set up at their own 42 yard line with 5 seconds left. Weeden heaved the ball up and it was caught by Josh Cooper for a 52 yard td pass! "To tell ya the truth I was trying to get it to Blackmon. But hey, Cooper caught it and we scored!" Weeden told reporters after the game.

The Cowboys had momentum coming out into the second half, but that was taken away when Weeden was intercepted by Crawford, and it was taken back 41 yards to the house for a touchdown. Then Justin Blackmon decided to put the team on his back... He would catch two TD passes in the third quarter to tie the game up 28-28.

Most of the fourth quarter was 3 and outs. But with 2:28, SMU managed to punch it in on a 16 yard run by Pardon. However, Ok State wasted no time getting the score back. Weeden did a great pump fake to throw the db off and then he capatalized on it and hooked up with Tracy Moore for a 73 yard td pass. SMU would drive the field again and with 47 seconds left, score on a 7 yard run by Line. So with less than a minute left, Weeden and the offense got the ball and went to work. They would score in just 2 plays, the td coming off of a 71 yard pass from Weeden to Blackmon. The Ok State D then stood tough and forced a punt with 12 seconds left. Weeden and the offense had just one shot left with only 5 ticks remaining on the clock....

"Truth fully I was just thinking throw it up. If we get lucky, then great. If not, we go into OT" Coach Jag said after the game. Well luck was on Ok State's side. Blackmon beat his man off the line and Weeden threw him a perfect ball for a 79 yard game winning td pass!

"Man it was a crazy game. Great win. Our D needs to improve however. Giving up 518 yards to SMU is to much! I was happy with our offense however. Not so much the line, who let up 7 sacks, but our recievers, running backs, and qb played great!"

    Players of the Game:
Justin Blackmon (record setting day)- 10 rec 305 yards (school record) 4 td's. 2 rushes for 17 yards

    Brandon Weeden- 18/33 535 yards 7td's 1int.

Next week the Cowboys will travel to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Vollunteers!
