CSKA Moscow win Serie A title! After a great start to the season, earning 8 wins and 1 draw, CSKA found themselves going through a tough stretch where they struggled and paid the price for poor performances. CSKA would only win 4 of their next 9 games, along with 2 losses and 3 draws. That slump, combined with hot streaks from Everton, Lazio, and Lille, closed the gap at the top. CSKA Manager shiftee was not happy with the mid-season slump and worked his team twice as hard during practices. The players responded very well as the team finished the season with 4 straight wins to clinch the Serie A title. Some key milestones from season 2: - CSKA set the record for most points earned in a season with 52. - Seydou Doumbia won the scoring title while setting a new record for the 2nd straight season. He scored 28 goals in this campaign, bringing his career total to 47. - Vagner Love was the most improved player for CSKA this season, scoring 15 goals, tripling his output from a season ago (5), bringing his career total to 20. - The defense tightened up in comparison to last season, with the exception of the big 5-2 loss at the hands of Lille. The team allowed 20 goals in 22 games. - Goalkeeper Akinfeev improved on his cleansheets by finishing with 10 on the season, bringing his career total to 19. Since we are moving onto FIFA 12, I put together all the highlights I have from Season 1 and Season 2. The first 23 are from Season 1 and the rest are from Season 2. I also put together all the goals by Doumbia into it's own highlight reel since he's contributed the most goals for me.
CSKA Moscow receives terrible news! Just days after experiencing the thrill of winning the Serie A title, CSKA Moscow management has received the worst news possible, in that they will not be allowed to defend their Serie A title. More info to follow soon.
CSKA Moscow confirms management must start looking at opportunity with a different team Manager shiftee confirmed that he will need to start looking elsewhere in order to defend the Serie A title. "Unfortunately, this news is true. It is a sad day in CSKA Moscow history. We were on such a high after winning the league title and for this news to come in just days later is devastating." As a sidenote... please do not delete this thread as I will be looking to copy the stats, etc into a separate file so that I can keep the history
Former CSKA Moscow manager receives several offers from potential suitors Former CSKA Moscow manager shiftee has been flying out to numerous cities to visit teams as the search for a new club continues. Rumors have been swirling around since the news broke about CSKA not being eligible for the upcoming season. So far this week, shiftee has visited numerous teams from England, Italy and Brazil. Earlier today, he told reporters that his visits to each of those countries went very well and each of the clubs he's visited so far are very intriguing opportunities. He also mentioned that he is heavily considering going to Italy so that he can go back to his roots and visit family often. Another rumor, although many believe is unlikely, is that he may be interested in an MLS team. There are a few more visits scheduled in the next 48 hours before shiftee makes his decision.

Matchdays 01-03 Recap Coming off a disappointing season 5, CSKA looked to start strong in season 6 and were able to do that against 3 tough opponents, earning 7 of a possible 9 points to start the season. CSKA couldn't have had a better start to this game as they took a 1-0 lead just 2 minutes into the game. CSKA would widen the game shortly after when Honda's low driven shot from distance skipped by the Montpellier keeper to take a 2-0 lead after 13 minutes. Both teams seemed to try to calm down the pace a bit as both teams were getting shots through with little resistance. At the 79th minute, one of the Montpellier players blasted a shot from range which beat the diving keeper but could not beat the post. The CSKA defender tried to clear it away but was tripped up by the fallen keeper as he came back to his feet, allowing Utaka to slot it into the back of the open net. Montpellier felt the momentum shifting and continued to put shots on net, but Akinfeev was equal to the task without giving up many rebounds. Doumbia would give his side a bit of breathing room when he scored his 2nd of the game in the 89th minute to go up 3-1. But Montpellier showed why they were promoted to the top flight as they showed no quit in them, scoring just 1 minute later, Utaka's 2nd of the game to close the gap 3-2. CSKA would hang on to win what turned out to be a nail biter right to the last whistle. And CSKA holds on for the win thanks to Akinfeev's performance Matchday 02 had CSKA visiting Brazil to face off against Flamengo and former CSKA standout, Vagner Love. CxMacx10, who was 1 playoff game short of winning the Serie A title in season 5, had been hired by the talented Flamengo team, led by Ronaldinho. This game started off great for CSKA, as they were able to capitalize on a key turnover which saw Gonzalez cut around the defender before crossing the ball into the box where Honda calmly headed it into the net just 11 minutes in. That would be the only costly mistake of the 1st half as both teams were playing smart positionally, not allowing too many quality scoring chances. CSKA would have lady luck on their shoulder at the 59th minute to go up 2-0. Doumbia got by the defender for a partial breakaway. The initial shot beat the onrushing keeper, but it hit the post and bounced right back to Doumbia who then popped it into the net. Flamengo showed great character as they didn't let this 2nd goal deflate them, instead they came back stronger and really put CSKA on their heels. Their perseverance would pay off when Willians took a nice pass from Abreu and proceeded to cut through 2 CSKA players and into the box, calmly putting the ball by the CSKA keeper and closing the gap 2-1 at the 69th minute. With plenty of time left on the clock, Flamengo kicked it into high gear and CSKA seemed to get panicy, making bad decisions which led to turnovers. Keeper Akinfeev made save after save to hang on for the slim 2-1 victory. He always seems to bring out the best in shiftee, as almost all games between the two managers end up in a draw, no matter which team either of them happen to be managing in any given season. This game was a pure chess match. CSKA got on the board first on an angled blast by Doumbia at the 11 minute mark. After the opening goal, both teams played smart and didn't allow much. A lot of the game was played in the middle of the pitch. PSV got the breakthrough that they were looking for as Matavz equalized at the 67th minute. Having momentum on their side now, they pounced on their chances and just 5 minutes later, Toivonen blasted a shot by Akinfeev who had no chance to save it, no keeper could have. CSKA regained their calm and started to generate some attack of their own, earning 3 corner kicks in the last 10 minutes. In the 90th minute, Ignashevich headed a corner kick attempt which was matched by an amazing diving save and cleared for a throw in near the corner marker. On the ensuing throw in, Oliseh cut into the box and was looking to cross it into the middle but was brought down. The ref quickly pointed to the spot for the PK. Dzagoev combined power and accuracy, and a little luck, as his shot clanged off the inside post and into the net to earn a valuable point for his side. CSKA Manager shiftee had this to say in recapping the teams first 3 games: "All in all I am happy with the teams performance, the 2 wins were nice but the draw against PSV really showed the teams character and the fight they have from within. We didn't have 7+ points until Matchday 05 of last season so we are content with our start this season, and will continue to get stronger as the season progresses. We cannot take anything for granted, especially results we get this early into the season. We all know titles aren't won in the first set of games. We will need to stay focused and play smart for a full 90 minutes game in and game out. Our next matchups don't get any easier. Stoke City, Corinthians, and defending champions Werder Bremen are all tough opponents and we will need to be at our best."

This game started out with both teams waiting to pounce on a mistake, and not much offense was generated. Ignashevich found himself on the receiving end of a corner kick and his header would beat the Stoke keeper in the 38th minute. After the break, Stoke started to get some offensive momentum, and at the 52nd minute, Etherington crossed the ball into the box where Crouch was waiting with his head practically towering above the crossbar. Nobody but Crouch would reach that ball and he made no mistake in knocking it into the net to draw level. CSKA's offense would generate quite a few chances but was either met by a fantastic save by the Stoke keeper or would miss just wide of the target. This was definitely a hard fought battle and I'm sure both teams are looking forward to the rematch later in the season. Corinthians have had a pretty slow start to this season and CSKA was looking to take all 3 points and enjoy the great weather and Brazilian beaches. They got off to a good start when Ignashevich converted on a corner kick in the 9th minute. 14 minutes later, Honda received a pass from Dzagoev and placed a shot by the diving keeper to double CSKA's lead. Just 5 minutes after that Honda dribbled past his marker and powered a shot by the Corinthians keeper. The Corinthians defense tightened up after that and shut down CSKA the rest of the half. The 2nd half started like the 1st, a quick goal to start when Doumbia cut through a few defenders and gave the keeper no chance at making the save. Corinthians started to mount some offensive pressure and although they were very accurate with their shots, they were met by Akinfeev who kept his focus despite having a large lead to work with. CSKA's coach knows that although they netted 4 in this one, the real difference was in that 5 minute span where they got 2 quick goals. CSKA will need to work even harder next time these 2 teams meet.Matchday 06 CSKA Moscow 2-0 Werder Bremen9 (4) Shots (SOT) 7 (0)42% Possession 58%20 Tackles 172 Fouls 30 0 0 00 Offsides 11 Corners 0Match Events:CSKA: Honda (23') Gonzalez CSKA: Doumbia (79') GonzalezClean sheet: CSKA Akinfeev Doumbia's shot goes off the post and in to give CSKA some breathing room On the flipside, Werder Bremen's Pizarro takes a nice shot but it goes off the post and out of play Matchday 06 saw a battle of the champions past and present as Werder Bremen visited Russia to face CSKA. This game started out mostly played in the middle while neither team was able to generate much of anything. CSKA broke the deadlock on a corner kick in the 23rd minute, where Honda was left essentially unmarked for the easy header. This didn't change the approach as both teams again resumed play mostly in the middle of the pitch. Werder started to get some quality chances, only to be met with poor finishing as they would end up with 0 shots on target. Doumbia would give his side some breathing room in the 79th minute as his shot went in off the far post, giving the Werder keeper no chance at getting a touch on it.

Just 5 minutes later, Palermo would get a PK called against them for taking down Doumbia as he came into the box. This was a pretty weak call for the ref to make and the fans let the ref know it. Dzagoev stepped up to the spot and sent the keeper the opposite way to put his team up 2-0. CSKA would increase their lead when Doumbia took a shot which was saved, and the rebound was headed to Honda's feet who calmly placed a shot by the keeper. Honda would strike one in just 6 minutes after that on a shot from outside the box. Things went from bad to worse for the Palermo squad, as Doumbia was tripped up in the box a 2nd time and the ref was not shy to point to the spot right away. After reviewing the replay, this penalty was deserved as the defender's attempt was pretty much a knee-on-knee takedown. Dzagoev converted the PK and that would end the scoring in this game. This one started off pretty defensively as both teams were able to cut out passes and attempt a counter attack. Neither team would get the break they needed until Doumbia put CSKA up 1-0 in the 20th minute. The game continued it's path of high defensive quality and seemed like it would go into halftime with the 1-0 scoreline, but the 45th minute would prove to be Cagliari's undoing. Doumbia took in a pass from Oliseh and fired one towards the goal. The diving keeper got a hand on the ball but the shot was hard enough that it still went into the net. CSKA would increase their lead in injury time from a throw in and 3 passes later the ball found it's way to Honda's feet, who fended off his man and put the ball past the keeper. It was more of the same to start the 2nd half as Doumbia took on a defender 1 on 1 and his shot was in the net just 2 minutes into the 2nd half. Cagliari would eventually add a late goal to wipe out the clean sheet but could not overcome the defecit.

Doumbia scored twice to put his team up 2-0 early in this game as Fulham's defense seemed to be on their heels. The Fulham manager calmed his team down and they began to take momentum. Fulham would break through at the 39 minute mark when Sidwell knocked one past the CSKA keeper to cut the lead 2-1. Just 5 minutes later, Fulham drew even on a nice goal by Johnson to make it 2-2 at the half. Both teams defense was solid to start the 2nd half as neither team could muster up much of an attack. CSKA got the break they needed when Honda outworked a defender on a cross attempt and headed it into the net to make it 3-2. With their backs against the wall, Fulham was able to fight back and create good quality scoring chances, but the CSKA keeper made some timely saves. Doumbia would net his hat trick in the 89th minute and Honda would score another when a pass deflected off the Fulham defender and right to him. Both managers are looking forward to the rematch as this was a great game and both managers know this game was a lot closer than the score shows. Stranzl 7.70 (recap taken from rschwep's post) Matchday 08 Borussia Mönchengladbach resumed a long layoff while their manager took a leave of absence to move out of his college apartment by traveling to Moscow to face shiftee 's high-powered CSKA side. Off to a cracking start this season, CSKA entered the contest averaging 2.33 goals per game, tops in Serie A by far. "We know that we must be on our toes defensively," said manager rschwep. "One bad piece of footwork and their hitmen Doumbia and Honda will turn and go past us." A surprise to the manager was the formation deployed by CSKA, who also utilized a five-man back line. "I thought I was the only one crazy enough to try that," laughed off the Gladbach boss. "Scoring as many goals as they do from a five-man line is nothing but indicative of the quality they bring to the pitch." Certainly Doumbia's speed was on display throughout the occasion, but on this night the showpiece was young Marco Reus, who's 70th minute goal will surely be in the consideration for Goal of the Week, as he turned in the box and curled a shot off the back post and in as he was clipped and pushed to the ground in the process. "What can you say about Marco? That is the type of skill we have expected all season," said his delighted manager. The match got off to an auspicious start for Gladbach, when Igor de Camargo recovered his blocked cross and fired in a second attempt, which was cooly headed home by Juan Arango in the 27th for his first of the season. Moments later, the speedster Doumbia was off to the races, blowing through the entire Gladbach back line and ripping a shot which was unluckily kicked in by defender Filip Daems, however replays seemed to indicate the ball was heading for the back of the net regardless. "Unlucky decision by the scorer for Daems," said the manager. "Doumbia certainly deserved to claim that impressive tally with his speed and finishing prowess." The match continued with excitement from both sides, fueled by Reus and Doumbia, before the former's game-winning tally in the 70th, assisted by super-sub Mike Hanke, who notched his third point on the season in just his third appearance, all coming as a substitute. "Once again, Mike was the late spark we needed," said rschwep. Reus will go down as the hero, but Marc-Andre ter Stegen was once again fabulous in making seven saves for his side. "A complete, total performance by everyone tonight," said his manager. "We have been waiting all season for a game such as this one." Managers thoughts: B.M'gladbach played an amazing game and as always is the case between these 2 teams, the result was a difference of 1 shot. The rematch should be a good one!
GUESS WHO'S BACK CSKA Moscow returns to league play for a 3rd time, and for their 5th season. Manager shiftee is delighted to be reunited with his original squad and of course Seydou Doumbia. Manager shiftee said "People have asked me why I would go back to CSKA when I had Eto'o at my disposal at Anzhi... having a player like Eto'o was really something, but Doumbia is not second rate by any means. Although some players have moved on, most of the team is still here from season 1 so there is a lot of familiarity with the team as well. We still haven't settled on a formation as we have many options to choose from with the players we have. I felt Anzhi had become too one dimensional. Other than Eto'o, consistency among the rest of the squad was lacking. The CSKA players know what my expectations are and I think they are looking forward to playing for me again." The 2012-2013 CSKA Moscow kits were revealed some time ago... Which is another bonus for the manager. "While I enjoyed my time at Anzhi, those kits are an eyesore. I don't know who is behind the designs, but CSKA definitely comes out on top in that department, hopefully the team comes out on top in league play as well.
