    Game Summary

    USC 0 - UGA 33

The Bulldogs are just 3 weeks into the season and they are still trying to establish what kind of team they will be in 2010. Against Louisville they were mediocre, FCS they were an offensive juggernaught w/ a soft D and against USC they were a defensive dream. The Dawgs held the Cocks (Yikes) to 0 points, even behind the big arm of Stephan Garcia. At first, Georgia shut down any rushing attempts forcing the Gamecocks to the air where they had some gradual success. Mulitiple turnovers near the redzone would spell disaster. Georgia had trouble early on in the red zone scoring 3 FG's & 1 TD in the first half. Things were finally warmed up in the 3rd quarter as Aaron Murray scored to cap a drive on a 10 yard option keeper. Washaun Ealey would take the next drive 67 yards on a 3rd down screen pass. The defense continued to play tough. They allowed some passing yardage put made some key INTs as Garcia was pressing late in the game. The defense would end the game with 6 INTs, 3 of which belonged to Brandon Boykin.
The Dawgs hit the practice field to prepare for their visit to Knoxville to match-up with the (1-2) Tennessee Volunteers.

    UGA 19 - Tennessee 31

The Bulldogs were facing an uphill battle just by heading to Knoxville alone. The defense played well, just not well enough. RB Ealey was knocked out early so the rushing duties were in the hands of Carlton Thomas, who did well in replacement. The defense played OK but the offense could not take full advantage of 2 INT's. The nail in Georgia's coffin was a fumble by AJ Green on a punt return giving Tennessee the ball just outside the redzone. Georgia looks to right the ship against Kentucky at home.

    Kentucky 14 - UGA 35

Finally back at home, the Dawgs were looking to recover from the whoopin' at Tennessee. That look to be the case early as Georgia scored on their first possession on a 49 yard screen pass to Carlton Thomas. On Kentucky's next drive Georgia stifled them 2 yards shy of the first down. On a confusing call, Kentucky went for the fake punt from their own 30 yard line! The result was a stuff from Georgia who went for the home run on the next play, a 24 yard pass to Rantavious Wooten. The second quarter had the tide shifting. Kentucky scored on two solid drives bringing the score even.
In the second half, it would be all Georgia. The run d was monsterous, stuffing Kentucky on several key plays. The offense continued to score. Waushaun Ealey added 2 scores, one of which was a powerful run that went 56 yards. The nail in the coffin would be a 73 yard INT return by MLB Jeremy Longo.

    MSU 24 - UGA 27

Georgia was lucky to be at home in this game. Although on paper Georgia looked superior, Mississippi played superior. Early on Georgia was on a roll, chasing just 7 after a Robert Elliot TD run. The Dawgs owned the 2nd quarter scoring 2 TD's & 1 FG to go up 10. 3rd quarter, MSU would draw within 7 before Washuan Ealey broke away on a 77 yard screen pass. The 4th quarter is where the Dawgs really were out played. Robert Elliot would score again. UGA traded a feild goal to back up by 10. MSU would drive again, this time a TD strike to TE Kendrick Cook. A missed opportunity on the onside kick was all that seperated the two teams.
Geirgia looks to stay on a roll as they visit surprise powerhouse Vanderbilt next week.

    UGA 21 - Vanderbilt 42

This one was over in the second half. After playing competative for atleast a quarter of football, it was all downhill for the Dawgs. As a key second quarter drop, that clearly would've tied the game, hit the ground, the Dawgs could not recover. The second half was a defensive clinic by the Commodores as they seemed to blitz on every play recording 7 sacks and double digit hurries. The heart was ripped out of the Georgia team as Vandy continued to pile on.

It doesn't get anymore easier this week as Georgia faces the Mighty Gators in Gainsville

    UGA 27 - Florida 24

After a tough loss to Vanderbilt last week, Georgia was faced with the challange of travelling to the Swamp to face the #1 ranked Gators. Talent wise, the teams seemed to match up well. The only difference was that the Gators were playing well as they were undefeated and held the Top spot in the BCS. The goal for the Bulldogs was to play competitve and get out without injuries.

1st quarter pretty much summed up they feeling of the Bulldogs this year, missed opportunities. Florida received the ball first and was stuffed by the Georgia D forcing the punt. That opportunity was squandered as AJ Green fumbled the kick on the hit, which set the Gators up within the redzone. They would score easily on a 18 yard pass to Deonte Thompson. On Georgia's next drive, the drove down the feild only to lose a Washaun Ealey fumble and return possession to Florida. Unable to take advantage, Georgia would eventually get the ball back and close out the first quarter on a Carlton Thomas 34 yard TD run. In the second quarter, the Gators would score 2 TD's to Georgia's 1 FG. At the half, Florida led 21-10.

The second half would start with Georgia getting the ball. It would take a long time, but the Dawgs finally got a TD on a 5 yard pass to AJ Green. The gators answered with a 51 yard FG to close out the quarter.

The 4th quarter seemed too much to overcome for the visiting Bulldogs. Down 24-17, Georgia came up with a lucky strike, a pass to AJ Green that luckly was missed by the corner who tried to jump the route. AJ, using his athletic abilities, bobbed-n-weaved to a 62 yard TD miracle. Tied, the two teams would trade possessions for a few. The key play was when Florida was driving, Brandon Boykin jumped backwards to pick off a Brantley pass on a crossing route. This set up the Dawgs just over the 50 with less than 3:00 left in the half. The power running game stepped up and drove the ball into easy FG range, setting up the 30 yard game winner. Dawgs 27-24 with 7 seconds left in the half.

This is a statement win for the Dawgs and will need to build on this win. Hopefully this will bolster the recruiting class as well.

    UGA 28 - Ole Miss 7

Georgia looked to close out the conference season this weekend against the Rebels of Ole Miss. The 1st quarter was all Dawgs as the Georgia D stripped the ball from the runner on the 1st drive, eventually setting up a Washaun Ealey 5 yard TD. On Georgia's next possession, Carlton Thomas recovered his own fumble and took it to the house for a 41 yard TD. Ole Miss would suffer a disconnect on the next series. In the 2nd quarter, AJ Green stepped up and showed the world why he will be a #1 WR in the NFL, scoring two TD's (6, 18).

The Dawgs look to finish up the season against Oklahoma State. Hopefully they have done enough to sneak into a BCS bowl game.

    UGA 52 - Ok State 34

Georgia closed out the season this weekend in a high scoring affair with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. It started off fast and would continue to the end. OkSt scored first on a 38 yard strike. UGA answered with an AJ Green 44 yard TD. Follow that up with two quick defensive TD's (52 yard fumble & 69 yard INT).

The second quarter, the Cowboys answered with two Johnny Deanton passing TD's. Aaron Murray would match it with a 81 yard strike to Tavarres King to end the half.

The 3rd was more of the same exchange. Georgia scored first and OK replied with two of their own. Not until the 4th quarter was the defense able to slow the Cowboys.

UGA will just sit back and wait until bowl selection day to see where they end up.

    UGA 30 - Clemson 20

Georgia closed out the season with a terrific win against Rival Clemson. Aaron Murray was on point thru the air, throwing for 333 yards and 1 TD. Washaun Ealey carried the ball 25 times for 104 yards and 2 TD's. AJ Green had 3 catches for 48 yards in his last game as a Dawg.
Georgia will now sit back and wait to see which Juniors are leaving before they wrap up their recruiting. Should have a solid squad if Ealey decides to stay.

    #3 UGA 35 - #10 Cincy 3

Just the way you would want your team to open the season. A convincing win over a ranked opponent is always a positive sign of things to come. Most of the questions in the offseason were on the defensive side of the ball. The new look D definitley rose to the occasion in this one.

1st quarter was a slow one, mainly due to a lack of game plan. As opposed to running the ball, Coach P wanted to see how his WR's and QB would react at live game speed. For a little while it seemed to be a failed expeirement but as time progressed you got to see a little of what they could be with a little more time. At the end of the day, Aaron Murray went 20-39 / 333 / 3-0. Tavarres King stepped up to fill in the spot left behind by AJ Green. The running attack picked up from last year with Washaun Ealey and Carlton Thomas splitting time for well over 100 yards.

The defense was fairly dominant in yardage control and red-zone protect. The Bearcats were held out of the endzone completely by the Dawgs. Young linebackers filled in for the NFL bound Jeremy Longo, stuffin g the run and making it look easy.

Up next is Louisville before opening conference play against South Carolina.

    UL 36 - UGA 62

Defense, defense, defense. The Bulldogs intercepted 3 passes and brought them to the house courtesy of Branden Smith (2) and David Love (1). Aaron Murray had another solid day going 23-33, 343, 4TD/1INT. With Washaun Ealey getting knocked out for 3 games, Carlton Thomas stepped up for 86 yards on 22 carries.

The Dawgs crack open conference play with a huge game with USC.

    UGA 17 - USC 14

The Bulldogs may have walked out of Williams-Brice Stadium with the win thanks to a little bit of luck. Coach P stressed not to allow the game to get out of hand, keep it close and give yourself a chance to win. The Gamecocks home crowd was rocking. SC took their first drive into the red-zone before suffering a turn-over giving the ball to the Dawgs at the 15. Aaron Murray wasted no time on a screen pass on 3rd down which Carlton Thomas took 85 yards juking and spinning his way to the endzone. After stopping another Gamecock drive, the Dawgs found WR Marion Brown on a hot route, after recognizing the blitz, for 45 yard TD pass. USC took there next drive tediously down the field on the back of Marcus Lattimore which ended in a 9 yard TD reception. Score at the half, 14-7.
The second half, USC powered its way to the end zone again, tying the score at 14. 4th quarter, Georgia gets a FG after a INT on the Gamecock side of the field. 2+ minutes on the clock, USC starts their drive. Moving down the field uncontested. 40+ yards from a TD, 10+ yards for the 1st down, Conner Shaw takes off as the whole middle of the field was wide open. UGA was playing the pass, so everyone was back deep. Conner got to about the 10 yard line and shifted his line to the pylon, where he was met by Jakar Hamilton, who came all the way from the opposite side of the field to force the fumble which was recovered by Abry Jones. With only 40 seconds left, the Dawgs had a sigh of relief as they got out by the skin of their teeth.

Cheap win, but it was a win regardless. The schedule doesn't get any easier either as next up is Kentucky and Alabama on the road. Georgia needs to regroup as the, dispite the 5 turnovers, needs to work on their run D as they allowed Marcus Lattimore to rush for 148 yards on 18 carries.

    UGA 45 - Bama 42

Not a pretty game for the Georgia faithful, but a win none the less. Georgia wanted to impose their rushing attack on Bama but failed in the task, at least stat wise. Bama was full on with their blitz attack which was relentless.
In the first quarter, Bama would strike quickly on 36 yard TD run by Lacy, just shrugging defenders off. A fumble on the insuing kick-off would set up Bama for another quick score, this time a 5 yard pass to Michael Bowman. By this time the crowd was in full roar. Georgia need to quiet them down quickly before the game was out of hand. Aaron Murray would lead the dawgs down the field and they would score on a Ealey 3 yard TD. That drive was answered by Bama on a Vince Lucas QB scramble on the next drive. In the second, the D was finally seeing some keys to the Bama offense. They were able to keep them scoreless with their bend-but-don't-break D. Aaron Murray needed to step up big as bama's LB's were stuffing the run at every opportunity. TD passes of 87 & 21 yards would put the dawgs up 24-21 at the half.

Flash forward to the 4th, UGA up 31-28. Alabama would snatch the lead on a Michael Bowman TD reception. Rantavious Wooten would quickly respond on a 58 yard strike of his own to regain the lead. UGA would force a fumble on a screen pass to Lacy, setting them up in the red zone where they would eventually take the lead 45 - 35. Bama with 3 minutes left on the clock would drive the field and score with 1:02 left on the clock. Next up, the greatest play in college football, according to the gameday crew, onside kick. Bama recovered and set themselves up for the tie. But the Tide at home would not settle for a tie. They wanted to go for the win. Strange playcalling of 5 screen passes would eventuall get them inside the redzone with less than 15 seconds on the clock and 4th down. Guess the paly? Screen pass to Lacy who is dragged down before the goal line with 7 seconds left only to see time tick by..6..5..4..3..2..1..0.

Not proud of the win but will take it. UGA finally can return home and face a tough Tennessee team.

Georgia Returns Home Just in time for a Beatdown.

    Tennessee 37 - UGA 35

Thanks to all the Georgia faithful who showed up to cheer on the Dawgs. Homefield advantage just wasn't enough to stop the Volunteer air attack. And for those not at the game, it wasn't as close as the score would indicate. The Dawgs defense was exposed by Tyler Bray from the get go. After a 75 yard TD bomb, Georgia was chasing the whole way. Washaun Ealey was lost early but Carlton Thomas did ok filling in despite not having the power of Ealey to run against the Tennessee D-line. Aaron Murray had a decent showing, 18-29, 415yds, 2TD/1INT. His favorite target was TE Orson Charles who had 6 catches for 115 yards and a TD.

The schedule doesn't get any easier as the Dawgs face off with the Gators this Saturday at home. Hopefully, Georgia can regroup and shut down the high flying Gators offense.

    Dawgs Keep Sinking

After a tight loss to Tennessee, Georgia was looking to perform better against the Gators. If anything, the Dawgs performed worse. Aaron Murray had his career worst gamethrowing 4 INT's. In his defense, he was pressing as RB Washaun Ealey was out with an injury and Carlton was lost during the game for 8 weeks. Lack of a running game, would end up being their demise.

GG Penguin & GL on the SEC.
