#22 UNC 24 @ #17 LSU
We came into this game unprepared. We didn't play well. Bad tackling and poor pass coverage. On offense, we didn't know what to run because we were shut down early in the run game. Abandoning it, we were forced to 3rd and long because of pass play calls on 2nd down. We had ups and downs but overall this game could be summed up as inconsistent. Down 10-7 before the half we had the ball inside their 50 and were on the march. Instead of trying to establish the run we ended up throwing a pick six to go down 17-7 at half. A big swing of momentum. After that we managed to climb back in the 2nd half. It did look bad when we were forced to a 3 and out on our 1st second half possession.
This gave us some life because we were down 10-0 at this point.
Down by 3, on 3rd and long we got a dagger through the heart.
Sheppard shines and gives us some hope!
LSU slams Vanderbilt 27-3.
A big game in Nashville took place today. LSU was able to rebound from the tough loss at the hands of North Carolina. It was an intense battle until the 4th quarter when LSU's offense finally kicked into gear showing some kind of life form. The score was 6-3 heading into the 4th and wasn't looking too spectacular for the Tigers. We were happy to be winning. We took our time and played smart instead of trying to be flashy. Stevan Ridley finished with 17 carries for 70 yards while Richard Murphy had just 3 carries for 17 yards. Although he didn't put up shocking receiving yard stats he did manage to get 2 TDs on the day. Paging Terrance Toliver! He was in the buildin' today! One could say it was a sack fest. Which is what Hackgolfer loves. 9 total sacks contributed by both teams. LSU kicker Josh Jasper made 4 FGs on 4 attempts. LSU goes on the road next week to Mississippi State to face the Bulldogs.
Tigers WinBulldogs are no match for LSU.
The Tigers are able to go into Starksville and come out with a victory. Not a pretty win but we'll take it. Mississippi State's QB Chris Relf lit our secondary up. Luckily, Jordan Jefferson found his groove and threw for more than 400 yards. A back and forth battle that seemed like it would never end. Stevan Ridley was benched because of 2 early fumbles. Look for Richard Murphy to start next week against Nebraska. He will probably split reps with Michael Ford during practice this next week.
LSU loses a 24-17 heartbreaker to Nebraska.
Tough loss. We'll take it. Just going to learn from our mistakes and try to improve next week. There are a lot of things we could have done different. Our passing game didn't help us at all. We did make the right decision in starting Richard Murphy as he went off for 118 yards on 14 carries with 1 touchdown. The Wildcat play book provided some dangerous plays as Russell Shepard threw a strike to Terrance Toliver for a 47 yard touchdown. Thought we had a good chance to win going into the 4th. Both teams were playing hard. Up by 1 point, 17-16 our defense made a brilliant stop at the 20 yard line or so forcing a 4th and 6. We thought they would kick a field goal but Nebraska elected to fake it and ended up scoring. Our team broke down after that. Now, they will pay for that. We are going to run them like hell this week in practice.
LSU finds a way to win against Tennessee.
Huge game for the Tigers at home. Trying to keep our SEC championship game hopes alive, this was a battle. Lose and we are probably out of the picture for good. Win, we have a shot at the CCG still. Back and forth battle. I was scared for a moment as they went up 7-0 in the 1st. Got the ball back but threw an interception in the hands of Patrick Peterson. We scored 21 straight and looked to have the game in hand. That was until the 4th. The Vols went off on us scoring 14 straight to tie it with very little time left. Jordan Jefferson came up huge throwing a bomb to the other Tolliver, Chris who took it for 6 and the win!
LSU now prepares for one of the biggest games of the season. A trip to the swamp!
Gators are demoralized in 28-10 whipping by LSU.
LSU wins a big game by playing smart not flashy. Stevan Ridley was inserted back into the starting lineup after begging to play all week during practice. He ran 28 times for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns. The defense came up big all game holding the Gator offense to under 230 yards. The Tigers needed this win to stay in contention for the rights to play in the conference championship game. This is a huge step towards the next rung in #1 Alabama.
Defense Wins Championships
Tigers are fearless after convincing win against Georgia Tech.
Huge win to keep the streak rolling. This time over the visiting #6 Georgia Tech. A very physical game. The Yellow Jackets just couldn't get it going against the LSU run defense. The option attack was horrible today. Our run game wasn't too hot either. Ridley had a horrid game after rushing for over 180 yards last game against the Gators. The slack was picked up by the receiving core and Jordan Jefferson. Jefferson did throw 2 picks to 1 touchdown but he tossed for 293 yards. Terrance Toliver continues to shine with 3 catches for 114 yards and 1TD. Ridley couldn't do his thang runnin' so he did his thang catchin' with 4 receptions for 53 yards and 1TD. Reuben Randle added 3 catches for 40 yards. On defense, Jai Eugene was a monster with 6 tackles and 1 FF. The Tigers look to carry the momentum into next week.
No Love Lost
Auburn keeps it close against rival, LSU, but can't pull it out.
Each week is a big game. We go into the game thinking it is a 1 game playoff. You think that in any college football season but more so with this team, this year. With a huge game looming against #1 Alabama, you have to be focused on the task at hand yet still wonder what is going to happen that night. Jordan Jefferson came away from this game feeling pretty good going 12-23 for 246 yards and 1TD. Stevan Ridley was injured, so LSU had to call upon Michael Ford. Ford ran 22 times for 74 yards and 1TD. Not sexy numbers but it got the job done. Terrance Toliver, again showed why he is considered a top ten pick in this upcoming NFL draft, recording 5 receptions for 158 yards and 1TD.
Rebels Limp Out of Baton Rouge
The Tigers are overjoyed after a home win against arch-rival Ole Miss.
LSU cruises to a victory against our rival Ole Miss. It was a much needed battle after the much needed bye. LSU continues to show why everybody is talking about this team heading into the match-up with Kentucky for the SEC Championship. Jordan Jefferson had a great game throwing 4 touchdowns. Terrance Toliver and Russell Shepard went off both grabbing 5 receptions for over 120 yards. Combining for 4 touchdowns the two were unstoppable. Stevan Ridley was inserted midway through the 3rd. He had a decent game himself going for 53 yards on 9 carries.
LSU Steals one In Fayetteville
The Tigers steal one from their bitter rival Arkansas.
Very tough game to get us ready for next week's season finale against the Baylor Bears. Would we overlook the Razorbacks this week? Could they pull the upset? We thought Ryan Mallett would unleash the fury upon his. Not the story in this one. Mallett went 12-18 for 140 yards with 1TD and 1INT. Ronnie Wingo did the only positive work for the Hogs as he rushed 16 times for 101 yards. That wasn't enough to stop the Tigers. Stevan Ridley rushed 23 times for 87 hard fought yards. Contributing along the way was Richard Murphy who threw in 60 yards on 6 carries. Displaying the true effect of the 2 back attack. When Ridley became tired, Murphy would come in and spell him. Faster and fresher. Russell Shepard continued the great work with 5 catches for 91 yards while Terrance Toliver was a no show except for one play. Which was probably the biggest play for us. Toliver caught the only touchdown for the Tiger offense. Patrick Peterson provided a big time spark for us on the defensive side of the ball. Arkansas was on the move as if they would put up 7. Mallett dropped back and in stepped Peterson engulfing Mallett's pass.
Terrance grabs a TD on a crucial drive that was actually the deciding factor in the game.
Mallett is intercepted by Peterson.
In a tight contest, LSU edges Baylor 20-14.
Many thought coach Controllerabuser wouldn't have the troops ready for this one. Boy, they were wrong! Offensively, we were mediocre but defensively we were sound. The defense played lights out when needed.
YOU KNOW WHO'S NEXT
Edit: Sorry Mike, I should have wrote a better summary but I was pretty lit by the time I got done with my OMFL game.
SH (Y2) Week 1
Tigers D Shuts 'Em Out!
LSU starts off the season well by shutting out BYU.
BYU walked into Death Valley but limped out. Pretty hard to go into an SEC stadium let alone DV. The environment can be downright gruesome. The athleticism and talent differential can be cruel. That is exactly how it was for the Cougars as they were hunted throughout the day like Kim Kardashian in a room full of NFL players. A very good warm-up game indeed as we prepare for Texas next week. Some thought we'd overlook the boys from the MWC but not so fast my friends. The task at hand needed to be completed first. I was very impressed with some of my first time starters and true freshman. On offense it had to be Kadron Boone stepping into Russell Shepard's old role. Defensively, it was the #1 DT in last year's class that shined. Recording 3 tackles yet the pressure he put onto the QB forced many bad throws and an interception. Jordan Jefferson had an efficient day going 13-17 for 171 yards with 2 touchdowns. Spencer Ware led the rushing attack though he didn't get his reps until the end of the 3rd. Ware had 62 yards on 10 attempts. Ridley carried 12 times for 43 yards. Michael Ford rushed 7 times for 32 yards and 1 touchdown. Russell Shepard grabbed 3 balls for 51 yards and 2 scores. Deangelo Peterson, Kadron Boone and Rueben Randle accounted for 10 catches, 128 yards.
SH (Y2) Week 2
LSU keeps it close, but fall short in OT to Texas.
LSU walks into Longhorn territory but fails to get the victory. Down 21-13 after a costly pick six, the Tigers marched down the field to get the game tying score and 2 point conversion. Our hearts dropped when Texas got the ball back right before the end of regulation as Chris Whaley damn near scored on a basic run the clock play. In OT, we got UT to a 2nd and long and they converted. Scored and put the pressure on us. We fumbled near the 4, UT recovered but fumbled it back to us resulting in game over? Still unsure about that but whatever! Great game and good luck Bruce.
Not a very good game for Jordan Jefferson as he crumbled when the pressure got tough. Stevan Ridley & Michael Ford teamed up for 24 rushes, 132 with 1TD. Very mediocre day by the receiving core. The run defense needs to get our shit together.
SH (Y2) Week 4
Geaux Bayou Bengals!
LSU takes care of West Virginia, 38-28.
A Much-Needed Win
Baton Rouge is buzzing following a 28-14 win over Mississippi State.
Gators outplay LSU in a wild overtime affair.
LSU isn't able to survive a hungry Gator team. Not a very good day from Jefferson again which might have cost us. The run game was there all day as Michael Ford ran 22 times for 165 yards and 2 scores while Jakhari Gore rushed 4 times for 88 yards and 1 TD. Russell Shepard played somewhat of a decent game after being very quiet this year getting 3 catches for 72 yards and 1 touchdown. John Brantley beasted the LSU defense going 18-27 for 374 yards with 4 touchdowns only 1 interception. LSU could have won the game but Jefferson just could not hit the open receiver which would have been a definite score.
