Iowa brought in a very balanced gameplan with one of the more talented teams the hawkeyes have ever had. The Volunteers are defending champs and were looking to set a tone early on in the season.

It was a rocky first quarter for Tennessee as they allowed a very explosive first drive from the Hawkeyes to start the game. First QB Jake Rudock connected on a pass down the middle to Kevonte Martin Manley when the safety slipped on the play, then he put 6 on the board connecting on a seam route to star TE C.J. Fiedorowicz for a 35Yd TD to take the lead.

It wouldn't take long for the answer however as the two stars from last season, Tyler Bray and Justin Hunter, hooked up on a quick slant pass and Hunter took it the rest of way for a 72 yard TD.

Iowa's next drive was another well-run one and they again took the lead on the #9 rated Volunteers on a 2 Yd run from Canzeri. And just as the Iowa staff thought theyd be going in to the locker with the lead, Bray zipped another ball out to Hunter for a TD and a 14-14 tie at half.

The late 1st half Touchdown appeared to lower the spirits of the Hawkeye players because they were never really the same team in the 2nd. Nice coaching adjustments were easy to notice with the struggles Iowa had throwing it compared to the earlier quarters. They even worked #1 Recruit Joel Jordan into the gameplan in the 2nd half as he connected on all 3 of his passing attempts for 66 yards as well as 25yards on 3 carries keeping the Iowa defense on their heels.

Tennessee added a long touchdown pass late in the third to Da'Rick Rogers and a short rushing TD from Marlin Lane to ice this one before the final quarter. 2 FG's for Palardy and the Volunteers sent Iowa packing 34-14.
