Pittsburgh, PA - The Pittsburgh Steelers welcomed their division foe, the Cincinnati Bengals, to Heinz Field. The Steelers were swept by the Bengals in the regular season, so even though Pittsburgh won the division, they still weren't considered the favorite.

Cincinnati came into this game feeling confident after dismantling the Miami Dolphins at home in the Wildcard Round. Also, having beat Pittsburgh twice this year, they certainly weren't shy as this game got underway.

The Steelers won the toss and deferred, allowing their defense to head out first and set the tone early. Pittsburgh did just that focing an INT on the Bengals first possession. Roethlisberger turned that opportunity into quick points, hitting TE Leonard Pope up the seam for a 29 yd TD strike.

On Cincy's next possession, Dalton;s frustration became evident as he forced a throw on 3 rd and long to his big TE Gresham on a corner route. MLB Lawrence Timmons, read it the whole way and turned that bad decision into 7 points for the D. 14-0 Pitt end of the 1st.

The Bengals did get payback in te 2nd quarter, as Terrance Newman picked off Roethlisberger and turned on the jets for his own pick 6. This game was clearly getting it's fair share of turnovers early on. More was still to come however, as Pittsburgh intercepted 2 more passes from Dalton in the first half. The last 2 INT's coming in the last 3 minutes of the first half to blow this game open at 27-7 halftime.

Coming out at the half with a 20 point lead, the Steelers certainly took their foot off the pedal. They became complacent and their lead began dwindling. Cincy scored their first offensive TD midway through the 3rd quarter, with AJ Green only having 1 catch for 5 yds up to that point.

After Cincy's TD, the Steelers began sputtering and the Bengals kept scoring. First, 27-14, then 27-21. Pittsbirgh managed a FG with 5 minutes left in the 4th to put them up 30-21. The Steelers though that would pretty much seal the game, so they switched to their "Prevent" defense.

The Bengals took advantage of that and drove down the field to score with :15 left in regulation to put them down by 2 points. The Bengals came out, as expected, in the onside kick formation. Their attempt was successful! The Steelers sideline was in disbelief. Here they were up 27-7 at halftime, now they were clinging to 30-28 with :15 left and no timeouts.

The Steelers switched to sideline defense and got the QB sack on the final hail mary attempt, at the end of regulation.

Interceptions is the difference in this game, otherwise this could have easily gone the other way. Looked like a really good matchup.

    Agreed Randiesel75

I played so horrible in the first half that even a well played 2nd half couldn't make up for it. I was getting a bit frustrated at all my mistakes early and they just kept compounding. Great game RRAHx2 good luck for the remainder of the playoffs.

RRAHx2 I believe we got the makings of a rivalry going here.
