    WEEK 1
    #5 Boise State @ #7 VA TECH
#5 Boise State came into Blacksburg and shocked the #7 Hokies with a 21-7 victory at Lane Stadium!

Va Tech had every opportunity to win the game even though their offense turned the ball over 5 times. After making Boise State look bad on their 1st offensive possession the Hokies Fumbled their 1st play from scrimmage and the spiral continued from there.

Both early turnover gave the Broncos the ball deep in VA TECH territory and both time the Hokie Defense stood tall and forced FG's. Boise State lead 6-0 4:43 to play in the 1st half and finally the Hokies came to life when backup QB Logan Thomas connected with Jarrett Boykin for a 9 yard TD pass with 1:03 to play in the 2nd Quarter and the Hokies had their 1st lead of the game at 7-6.

    Then the HOKIES CRUMBLED!

With little time Boise State went to a Hurry Up offense and got inside the Hokie 20 yard but again the Hokie Defense didnt break! They would pick off a pass in the endzone and the DB too it out to around the Hokie 25 yardline. After a 1st down by VA TECH, the Hokies went hurry up and disaster struck! Now back in the game Tyrod Taylor went back to throw and was hit by 2 Broncos. The ball fluttered up in the air and Venable of Boise State grabbed it and took it back 36 yards for a TD to give Boise State the 13-7 halftime lead.

At the Half Boise State only had 63 total yards and had scored 3 times on 2 FG's and a INT TD! The Hokie Offense had turn it over 3 times in the first half, once inside the endzone!

Coach Hokie and his balanced attack when at Clemson and Oregon was being strangled by a Mugging Defense of Boise State! The WR's of VA Tech were being knocked to the ground and with no one to throw to, sacks became an issue. With no passing game, the running game was NON-EXISTANT!

The 2nd Half was just as bad or worse! Again the Hokies got deep inside Bronco territory only to have a trailing DB somehow make a play on a ball and pick it off in the endzone. The what could have been was the question of the day as the Hokies totaled 5 turnovers on the day and the defense stayed on the field all game long!

After the game Coach Hokie made a few comments:

"We didnt play like a #7 ranked team today but I will say this, we will never allow another team to dictation to us what we will do offensively! We found out some things today about our WR corp and our QB's! Changes will be made offensively!! I thought our defense played outstanding, you cant fault them for being on the field all game long. It had been 4 or 5 season since a team of mine had been beaten in the time of possession and 1st down column! We value those here at VA TECH and we will again... Thats all that needs to be said!"

    Week 2
    #1 Texas @ #11 VA Tech
Va Tech took advantage of 3 turnovers by #1 Texas to stay in the game and hold the powerful Longhorn offense at bay.
On the Longhorns 1st play from scrimmage they dropped back and set themself up early on a Bomb. The WR just made a play on the ball, the Hokie defender was there. 3 plays later it was 7-0 Texas!
Va tech went to work marching down field taking 6 minutes off of the clock before scoring to make it 7-7 with 6:26 to play in the 1st half. On the next Texas possession Carmichael jumped a pass in the flats to give VA Tech the ball back! Another time consuming march by the Hokies and it was 14-7 when Darren Evans scored with 1:11 left before halftime.
The Hokies got the ball to start the 2nd half and had some trouble with an option pitch and Texas fell on it. The very next play DJ Monroe took it 41 yards to tie the game with 5 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter.
Texas made some great adjustments at halftime and the Hokie offense struggled. Texas was able to regain the lead on a 7 yard pass to Johnson who was wide open in the flats for a TD with 1:02 left in the 3rd Quarter. VA Tech needed to make a change of their own and did just that by going to the air!
Tyrod Taylor was 9-14 passing for 158 yards and 1 TD on the day and none were more important than the 4th Quarter drive! Taylor dropped back and threw a quick 10 yard strike to Wilson ti tie the game at 21 with 4:43 left in the game.
The rest of the way both teams struggled to get much going as the defense tightened, VA Tech would pick Texas off for a 3rd time but went 3 and out and punted.
    OVERTIME
Texas went to overtime and went through the Hokies like a hot knife through butter! In just 4 plays the Longhorns were on the board when Johnson too it in from 2 yards out.
Va Tech didnt start out great in OT! They couldnt find running room early but on 2nd and long Tyrod hit a Wide Open WR that got them inside the 10 yardline of Texas. On the next play Tyrod took an option keeper over left side for a TD.
The Coaching Staff knew they had struggled all game long when Texas got inside the redzone. In OT, everthing is in the redzone, so they decided to gamble! I mean it is #1 Texas!
VA Tech came to the line to go for 2 and Texas called a Timeout! The Hokie lined back up for 2 again and Darren Evans went over the left end and had a wall sealed off and walked into the endzone as Lane Stadium went WILD!

#14 VA Tech @ NC STATE
The Hokies found themselves up 21-7 before the Wolfpack came roaring back to tie the game and take it to overtime. Va Tech couldn't stop the passing game of of NC State. The TE from NC State had 11 catches for 178 yards and ran free all game long.
The rushing attack fro Va Tech was clicking and controlled the game for Va Tech. The passing game is much to be desired as Tyrod Taylor constantly throws the ball behind, in front, or too high for his WR's. Without a consistent passing game for VA Tech it could be a long season!
