    Doing a Broadcast

Hey guys, I would like to try and test out a possible podcast setup. But I need guinea pigs...I mean, volunteers.

Any way that the board could possibly download a program called Mumble? It's completely free, open source software. I would like to set up a room for us to join in over the next few days to try and:

    1. See if we can all figure out how to use mumble.
    2. See if myself or someone can figure out how to use Audacity (free, open source recording program that can be used with Mumble).

Let me know if you guys can and are up to doing this.

If you guys can get the program downloaded, I'll work on setting up a server Wednesday and send the information on the board so you can log into it. I say we try and shoot for Thursday sometime if everyone is free. Let me know if there is a better time and I'll try to make it happen.

I want to test the quality of audio as well as fiddle with the recording program and see how it works. Unless someone else wants to try fiddling with recording.

FYI for those of you out there, I have the server set up on my desktop and it should be able to be connected to. Here are the stats on it since it's NOT a public server!

    Name of the server: OMFL
    Address: 192.168.0.101
    Port: 64738
Username: Whatever you want to be known as in the server
Password: omfl4life (just like the franchise setup)

It will be on 24/7 or as long as I have the desktop on, so we can try it out and see how it works. Could even use it while playing Madden (but there are things out for ps3 that we can use).

Let me know IF it works, and how well it works. I'll try to get on tonight and will definitely be on Thursday. If we want to set a specific timeframe to get on and chat and figure it out, let me know. I'll be available Thursday from 3 pm central till about 10 pm central.

Hmmm.....dunno much about this stuff, but will try and tinker with it. May see if my girlfriend can connect to the server later tonight since she is on separate network.

I'll have to study more about how to create a darn server using this program. I thought I was smart until I started reading how to create a server. Now my brain hurts...I think I'll play Madden some.

Sadly, I read that and set it up the way they stated on the web. I can't get it working. I'll try it again later, but if someone has the know-how they can give it a whirl.

Okay, I've done all I know how to do with the program using the cheat sheet. Not that I know much, but hey...

    Name of Server: OMFL
Address: Try each of the following please-
    192.168.0.129
    173.17.209.165
    Port: 64738
    Username: Put in whatever
    Password: omfl4life

The server is up and running. I can connect to it using the first IP; however, the guide states to use your external IP address to log into the server. Trouble is I try that and can't log in. I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that...um...it's on my network. But I'm unsure. If someone tries this and has issues logging in, let me know and I'll try to figure something out. I'm about out of ideas though, and I'm just about out of tricks up my sleeve.

I opened the ports on the router on both sides like the guide said to do. I may have to double check and make sure it's working properly.

EDIT: Changed the IP of the port forwarding. Had the wrong IP address. Give it another whirl when you check this and have time.

Okay, wow....Audacity looks daunting to me personally. I'm only slightly computer saavy, and it's mostly hardware based. Not really software.

Would someone else mind doing the recording for podcasts? I tried reading the help files, but...um....yeah....

Let me know if anyone else is interested in recording possibly.

Shouldn't be. Just can't figure out how to run Audacity, which is the recording program I planned to use. It looks...technical. Scary technical.

Server should be fine though. Is it down?

Not yet. Haven't been home long enough to test recording while server is working. And I can't get Mumble working on my laptop for some odd reason to host a server.

I get home on Monday after work. I will reset the Mumble server and get it up, then get the new IP up and we can test recording if you're able.
