Ducks Dominate Opener
Oregon kicks off the new season with an impressive win over New Mexico.
Though it wasn't an overly impressive performance stat wise the Oregon Ducks got it done. Two touchdowns on defense gave the offense a lift on the day. At times, the Ducks seemed very dangerous however in other instances they were a bit lame. The offensive coordinator is left puzzled over who to play more at quarterback. Play Darron Thomas and the original offensive schemes click but on 3rd and long it might not be pretty. Nate Costa on the other hand isn't the most athletic guy in Oregon Ducks' QB history but he can get the job finished. The passing game was poor on the day only completing 5 passes. 2 components fueled the offensive run game today. Darron Thomas, who had a brilliant 57 yard rushing TD in the 1st Quarter on a broken wide receiver screen. The other, you'll get to know quickly if you happen to be on our schedule. LaMichael James showed easily why he should be considered a Heisman candidate with 13 rushes for 124 yards and a TD. Just imagine if he would have gotten 20-25 carries. Overall, I wasn't let down by our defense. They played great in the 1st half. Well, they played good all game only allowing 7 points. Up next is a date with my old foe, H22APWRD94 and his Iowa Hawkeyes.
Oregon finds a way to win against Iowa.
What a great game! This is why I play on TF! To have experiences like this. Whether win or lose, I play to have a good sim game. Went down to the wire on this one. The Oregon Ducks have found their groove just in time for the home game against Boise State next week. I didn't think we stood a chance going into Kinnick Stadium but we pulled out the victory. Stuck to our game plan of running our read option. Though we only threw 10 times, they were all very strategic plays. Connecting on 3 passes with LaVasier Tunei for 105 yards and 1 score. LaMichael James had 15 carries for 80 yards but was held out the whole 4th quarter. Kenjon Barner came in to relieve and put up 44 yards on 8 carries for the day. The defense came up big forcing two turnovers both interceptions made by Talmadge Jackson III. In other words, don't throw to his side. Good luck to H22 and the rest of his season!
Down 7-0 at this point. Huge momentum swing that kept us in the game early.
Big connection that caught the defense off guard for that split second.
Darron Thomas showing why he was chosen to lead the team.
Ducks Falter at Home
Boise State invades Oregon's turf and walks away with a victory.
Too many drops. Opportunities were endless but were never executed. BOBJR, played a hell of a game. Hat goes off to him. Great addition to the league. I don't know why we stopped running our regular offense. Panicked because we couldn't move the ball or score. Twice we were inside the 5 and could not get a touchdown. Once, resulting in a fumble taken back to the 50. Which set up a scoring drive for the Broncos. The other turned into field goal instead of a much needed touchdown. Blew the game totally away. We'll just have to learn from our mistakes and try again. Pac-10 is still ours for the taking.
Key Road Win
Ducks withstand a tough road trip, winning 24-20.
The unthinkable almost happened today. The unranked Arizona State Sun Devils nearly took out the #6 Oregon Ducks. The Ducks could not operate the offense at all. Well, we couldn't run. Passing, was another story. Darron Thomas was benched after the coach realized they needed to spread the field out. LaMichael James had his worst performance by far with 16 carries for only 16 yards. It was that bad. They kept stacking the line. Run up the gut wouldn't work neither did taking it to the outside. He also fumbled twice. We did have some heroes today. One was Talmadge Jackson III, after getting beat on a 3rd and 10 for a huge gain, he told the defensive coaching staff he wouldn't let us down again. Boy was he right. He ended up grabbing a game saving interception in the last moments.
However, what got us there were three players on offense. Nate Costa, DJ Davis and Lavasier Tunei. We decided to experiment before the half. I think only 30 seconds left, so we subbed in Costa hoping to see him make some nice reads and complete some passes. He did just that. Which forced us to make the change in the locker room. He came out swinging in the second half. I believe he threw a TD on his first drive. Costa ended up 15-22, 348 yards, 3TD, 1INT. DJ Davis led the team in receptions with 6, 119 yards. Tunei, has the hype buzzing in Eugene. Many are saying that next year he will win the Heisman but he is trying his best to make sure he gets it this year. Grabbing 5 receptions for 181 yards, 3TD. Below is the score that put us ahead for good.
We'll have to play a lot better than this if we want to win the Pac-10.
The #4 Ducks are still shocked after a humiliating 31-17 home loss.
One man can't do it all. Lavasier Tunei put in work. Unfortunately, nobody else felt like they needed to make plays. Stanford came in prepared and boy did they execute. 2 turnovers is what set the Cardinal apart from the Ducks. One was returned for a TD while the other set up great field position which only a few plays later led to a TD. Oregon will have to hit the practice field again. Searching for thoughts as we don't know what to make of this team. One minute we are ruthless in the pass game. The next we are gashing the defense in the run game. Problem is we have two totally opposite quarterbacks. Boy are we missing Masoli! Hats off to Stanford RB Jeremy Stewart as he lit us up for 183 yards and 1TD. Andrew Luck played mistake free and did what was asked of him. Lavasier Tunei did all that he could getting 6 receptions for 144 yards and 1TD. Our defense just couldn't come up with two things: stops & turnovers.
