This will be my inagural production of a TRADITION ONLINE dynasty taking place in the TRIFECTA league. ALL rules/guidlines/principles will be followed in FULL. I tend to get a bit in depth and creative when it comes to these things (acquired from Helli and FieldingBlue [from NCAAstrategies] methinks...) as I think that this is just as fun of a part of the game as playing and competing is. Throughout the thread you will undoubtedly see the use of AViD Dynasty manager (www.avidmanager.com/) MANY thanks and big props to that, it really is a pretty dang neat tool.

All in all, I hope those that read get a kick out of it, should be interesting because there are undoubtedly going to be LOTS of bruises along the way in this one!

    What In The World?
Cutcliffe Steps Down - Replaced By Unknown

Durham, NC (AP) - In a startling turn of events for the Duke Football program on Friday David Cutcliffe who just last season led the Blue Devils to a 4 win season, equaling the previous four seasons victories, stepped down citing nothing more than personal reasons. This would apparently leave the Blue Devils in absolute disarray with the season just around the bend. However, after Cutcliffe's announcement came another, the helm of the program will now be manned by and absolute unknown commodity in Jimmy Miles. All that is known about Miles at this very moment is that he is a High School offensive line coach from the state of Oklahoma. The only news as to how he attained the job thus far has been lack of other applicants and an insider that wishes to remain anonymous stating that Miles "absolutely wowed the committee with his attitude, confidence, and plan of action". Recent history has proven this to be a tough enough job without coming in on the brink of the season's kickoff but such an instance as this is absolutely baffling. We hope to soon attain an interview with Coach Miles but as of this release all attempts to contact him have been in vain as he is said to be in Oklahoma tying up loose ends. As soon as we have any new information it will be released immediately, check in on The Chronicle for all of your Duke Football news and information.

    Asack Dissmissed From Team
Former Starting Quarterback Zack Asack Booted From Team

Durham, NC (AP) - Former Duke starting quarterback Zack Asack has been kicked off the team.
In a statement before his introductory press-conference Coach Jimmy Miles said Friday that Asack was dismissed immediately for an undisclosed violation of team policy.

Asack was entering his redshirt senior season after attempting to shift to safety from quarterback during the spring.

It's the second disciplinary action taken against Asack during his time at Duke. The Blue Devils' starter at quarterback in 2005 was suspended for the 2006 season for plagiarism and returned in '07 as Thaddeus Lewis' backup.

He started seven games as QB, throwing for 1,168 yards with seven touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

(For Dynasty Purposes - Asack is listed as #2 QB with and 85OVR, if he is not removed from roster update I will not use him, he will be removed from the depth chart. An early blow for us.)

    Miles Officially Introduced
Questions Answered While Some Still Linger

Durham, NC (AP) - "It really is a pleasure to be here and believe it or not it is a pleasant surprise as well" stated Miles yesterday at his introductory press conference that presented him as the Head Coach of the Duke Blue Devils in an official capacity. "I really do want to thank the University for this opportunity and the support that I have gotten right away from all of the other athletic programs here, we will fix this thing. I know it will take alot of time and toil, but it will be done."

At the conference some more light was shone on Miles and how he got here. In the press release handed to all members of the media it was disclosed that Miles has been an Offensive Line coach for the last several years at an undisclosed Oklahoma High School as well as having co-offensive coordinator duties for the last two. It is understood that friends of the family introduced him into the notion of applying for the job when through their connections they learned the opening would be happening this late into the year and that there was no initial interest. From there the rest is history as it is said by the regents that Miles absolutely wowed them with his knowledge, intensity, and dedication to remedying the programs continued struggles.

"Coach Cutcliffe laid a fine foundation for us to build on, there are just some more things that I think need to happen to get us to the next level" stated Miles, "Its the things like a true vested interest in recruiting in-state first and taking advantage of what we've got right in front of us. On top of that, we will be installing a two-back based offense, I believe firmly in the power of a tight knit offensive line and the utilization of a fullback as well as a tight-end in my offense. The spread in my opinion is another trend of the game right now, if anything is shown through the history of the game its that things come through in cycles. I'm sure alot of people will accuse me of being old fashioned, but just think of it as waiting for things to cycle back around if that makes you feel better."

When asked about the Asack situation Miles simply stated that "Its been dealt with, he violated team policies and he's done, period. Its a shame to lose a talented guy like him with us being in the building process that we are but rules are rules. End of discussion."

One things seems accurate with many peoples assessment, Coach Miles is definitely a very intense and opinionated individual and this should be an interesting ride.

Stay tuned for more on Duke Football here with The Chronicle.

    Grounding It Out
Blue Devils Pull Off 34-24 Win On Back Of Boyette

Durham, NC (AP) - Coach Miles promised ground and pound football and that is exactly what he gave everyone in Duke's week one upset of the heavily favored Connecticut Huskies. "We had a gameplan centered on the ground attack and thats what we were going to stick with," said Miles after the game, "I was really pleased with the way we carried that out, especially after falling down 14 points in the first quarter. Alot of kids would've just given it up after that, but, our defense settled down and Boyette protected the rock like we needed him to do."

Protecting the football is most certainly what Requan Boyette did on all 37 of his carries for a career high 229 yards and 3 scores with an astounding 6.2 yards per carry in a game that marked his comeback from last years season ending injury. Defensively the Blue Devils did just enough to win by managing to force four punts despite allowing the Huskie passing attack to go 17/23 for 236 yards and 3 scores. All in all, it was a great effort and a great debut for Miles and company.

Up next for the Blue Devils, a non-conference clash with the Kansas State Wildcats (1-0) where they again will be fierce underdogs.

I heard Asack was at a Frat party with some of the Duke Lax players over the weekend and was arrested for partaking in an "involuntary gang bang" of a cheerleader. Is this true???

    Asack Dismissal Rumors Swirl
    Miles Issues Statement

Durham, NC (AP) - Just about two weeks ago former Duke starting quarterback Zack Asack was dismissed from the football team at the same time Coach Jimmy Miles was coming in, in fact, the decision was made from Miles' home in Oklahoma, not in Durham. Facts about the incident that led to the dismissal are still unknown as Asack and family as well as the Duke family (including Paul Asack, brother to Zack and Duke's starting punter) have been mum, simply citing "violation of team rules".

That is when the rumors started, lately there has been much talk that Asack was involved in an incident with another Duke athletic program at a recent party and that the incident involved a young girl. Attempts to contact the university directly led to them simply stating simply that there is no statement. That's when Coach Miles stepped in with a very serious and direct comment:

"First I want to state that I am speaking with the direct permission of the Asack family when I say that recent rumors are absurdly false. I still will not release the reasoning of Zack's dismissal other than he was already under the knowledge that one more mistake and he would be done with the university. Unfortunately he made that mistake but it most certainly was not and is not the mistake that has been much publicized as of late. Zack made a mistake, but there is no reason to jeopardize his future with such alligations."

After the statement Miles was asked about other rumors that an offensive linemen on his squad was also facing removal from the team, not surprisingly, he declined to comment.

    A Deceiving Beatdown
Positives Show in 42-12 Loss...But Not Many

Durham, NC (AP) - "First things first," explained a visibly exhausted Coach Miles after his Blue Devils (1-1) fell to Kansas State (2-0) 42-14, "I'm not into that what if thing but we had five damn trips into the red zone in this thing and only scored once, thats a possible 28 points and a different freaking ball game as far as I'm concerned. But, if if's and but's were fruits and nuts then squirrels sure as hell wouldn't go hungry." Miles certainly is correct as going into half time the upstart Blue Devils were giving the Wildcats all they wanted in a tight 7-14 ballgame until the 'Cats opened the half with a 62 yard touchdown bomb."We couldn't stop their pass," stated Miles, "But, thats youth and inexperience in the secondary for you, we got a long way to go before we can fix this thing."

Offensively though the Blue Devils managed to rack up an impressive 426 yards, 296 through the air and 190 on the ground, they just could not finish drives as they went 8-18 on 3rd down and 0-3 on 4th. The bright spots were definitely the seniors Lewis (22/39, 296, 2/2) and Boyette (29, 109) as they managed to lead the offense to 20 first downs. "We have to learn to finish," said Lewis after the game, "Until we do that we'll never be anybody."

The Devils will have their hands full next week as they will continue their Kansas tour and face off #20 Kansas (3-0) after this weeks bye week. They will have to come ready for war if they want to have a chance at righting the ship.

    Rock Chalk CHOKE JOB!
Blue Devils Snatch Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory 31-35

Durham, NC (AP) - Senior Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis is surely sitting in the hot at this very moment as a 3rd and 1 quarterback sneak for a sure thing first down caused his world to crumble around him. Lewis needed one yard to have a chance to ice the game and secure a 31-26 victory, instead the fumble led to a quick strike Kansas score to put it 31-32 with :56 left on the clock, then, Lewis did it again and threw his 3rd interception on the day, capping an 8/20 98 yard and 1/3 performance. Outside of the quarterback play the Blue Devils (1-2) did everything they wanted to, they controlled the time of possession game (+6:00), racked up 20 first downs, and Requan Boyette slashed the Jayhawk (3-0) defense on his workhorse like 34 carries for 219 yards and 2 scores.

Afterwards Miles issued the statement that, "We may have to make a move, its been Thaddeus' job to lose and maybe we need some competition in there. My only fear is that doing that now is throwing fuel on the fire against a behemoth of a team like Va Tech." If a competitive move were made it would have to be the redshirt freshman Sean Renfree (The #10 and 4* QB in the 2008 Class from AZ) as true freshman Sean Schroeder (The #39 and 3* QB in the 2009 Class from CA) currently lies in redshirt. Obvious worries would be Renfree's inexperience and lesser throwing power and accuracy to Lewis', however he could bring a new dimension to the running attack in the form of a legitimate option attack with his 82 speed.

Defensively the outmatched Blue Devils overachieved valiantly as although they may have given up 300+ passing yards they did manage to contain the rushing attack and hold Sharp to under 100 yards. The defense managed to rattle Reesing enough at times with their pressure to give their team a shot. Most impressive though were the two goal line stands where the 'Devil D' managed to prevent the 'Hawks from getting in on their two two-point conversion attempts. "Our defense is growing up," Miles said afterwards, "I think they are figuring out we aren't asking them to shut people out, just a stop here and there to give it back to our offense so we can chew the clock. I know we're undermanned defensively so offensively we want to keep them off the field and rested."

Up next for the Blue Devils (1-2) will be a daunting task of hosting the currently #7 Virginia Tech Hokies (2-1) in the Blue Devils opening ACC matchup of the season. Things could get interesting.

    No Surprise
Virginia Tech Hands Duke and Underwhelming 26-7 Loss

Durham, NC (AP) - After the regionally televised game where #6 Virginia Tech knocked Coach Miles and his Blue Devils to 1-3 (0-1) on the season color analyst Kirk Herbstreit perhaps said it best when he stated that, "This was a case of a team just being outmatched. Duke actually played a good game, they just don't have the horses to compete with the big-boys. They need to get out there and hit the recruiting trail and build this thing back up." Duke did indeed played a good game as they out first downed the Hokies 20 to 11 and even out gained them 346 yards to 258 yards, the downfall however came in the astounding 8 turnovers while the Hokies had 0.

"You know," said Miles afterwards, "I'm not all about moral victory crap but without 8 ----ing turnovers it is a different game. Hell, no pick six its a 7-19 game, then take the 4 other turnovers that held them to field goals awas and its a damn 7-7 ball game against the number 6 team in the damn country."

The quarterback position did get interesting though as Miles used a two-platoon system with Senior Thaddeus Lewis and Freshman Sean Renfree. Lewis pulled a 8/23 94 yard and 1/2 performance while Renfree managed a 11/14 122 yard and 0/3 performance. "Its still unsolved," Miles said of the quarterback battle, "No one wants to take it so I really don't know what the hell is going to happen but it has to somehow get better. Hell, the two combined for all 8 of out turnovers and that is inexcusable." Defensively though Vincent Rey paved the way to an impressive outing for the unit as well as a Player of the Game performance with his 9 tackle, 3 tackle for loss, and 1 sack day.

Next for the Blue Davis will be an in-state matchup with the NC State Wolfpack that will not only play a part for a needed win, but recruiting as welll.
