Philadelphia,PA The Philadelphia Eagles welcomed the Dallas Cowboys in an important division contest. The winner of this game would have the lead in the NFC East. The loser falls back into the pack and possible on the fringe of the playoffs. The Eagles were looking forward to this first contest and were hell bent on showing their strength of the team. Of course we are talking about the running game. The Eagles currently own the leagues best rushing attack and they held true to form in this one. Dallas is owners of one of the better rushing defenses but they were not match in this one. The Eagles rushed for 174 yards behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown. Bram Greenlea was efficent as he completed 12-15 for 178 yards. It was a balanced game on all fronts as the defense also chipped in causing 4 turnovers including two that were returned for a touchdown. The Eagles would get the offense rolling first as they received the opening kickoff. Changing their strategy for the opening, the Eagles went to the pass on the first four plays. They were able to get into Cowboys territory quickly. After a few runs by McCoy to soften up the D, Greenlea would go to playaction and hit his stud TE Stephen Greenwald with a 15 yard touchdown reception to take an early lead. The lead didnt last long. The Cowboys immediately went to work with their spread attack. They would convert a few third downs before Jimmy Eachavarria would hit Madison Billi on a quick out to erase the lead. The Eagles would not be intimidated by the fast paced offense. Sensing a chance to change the pace to their liking, the Eagles began imposing their will with the running game. LeSean McCoy was able to find some soft spots in the defense and break a few tackles. McCoy would benefit greatly from the blocking of the offensive line. After getting to the one yard line, McCoy would punch it in as the Eagles would regain the lead. "We felt good with the way our team was playing on offense. I think we were expecting different outcomes on defense but as with any divisional game, you kind of wait and see before adjusting. It certainly helps when you cause turnovers. The Eagles would get the first big break on defense. After a LeVeon Carrol sack forced a 2nd and long, Eachvarria would hit Cole Beasly between the zone defense only to be destroyed on a hit by Jonathon Cyprien. The fumble would be recovered by the speedy Brandon Boykin and he would race untouched 43 yards for a touchdown and 21-7 lead. The touchdown would give the Eagles breathing room and the opportunity to continue with their game plan. The Cowboys wouldnt go down without a fight. They would shake off the turnover and began moving the ball up the field. However a strong defensive play from Derek Cox would hold the Cowboys to a field goal. The Eagles would try and score before the end of the half but disaster would strike. Greenlea would be picked off by the Cowboys Bruce Carter setting them up in good field position. Dallas wouldnt let it go to waste. With only 9 seconds remaining in the half, Echavarria would hit Dwayne Harris to bring the score to 21-17. The Cowboys with the late score and possession of the second half kickoff must have felt good. They came out on offense and methodically moved the ball the down field. However, the Eagles opportunistic defense came up with a huge play. Earl Wolfe would pick off Echavarria in the endzone to end a drive. The Eagles offense responded to defensive play with more physicality. The run game behind McCoy and Brown slowly began to wear down the Cowboys. A few plays caused injuries to their starting DT which opened up bigger holes. McCoy would find paydirt again for his second touchdown of the day to give the Eagles a 28-17 lead. Once again the Cowboys would fight back though the air. Unfortuantely for the Cowboys, they tested the leagues pick leader in the process and got burned. Derek Cox would step in front of Echavarria pass and would race 83 yards for a touchdown that for all intensive purposes put the game out of each. Each team would add a touchdown to account for the final score. LeSean McCoy continued his torrid play as he rushed for 117 yards and 3 touchdowns on the day. Bryce Brown continue to produce as he rushed for 45 yards on just 5 carries. Myckal Kendricks contributed with 10 tackles and one Forced Fumble. The Eagles travel to Minnesota for their next match up.
