It was a battle between two division leaders in Philadelphia as the Eagles hosted the Baltimore Ravens. A matchup between two of the leagues best running backs, Ray Rice and Lesean McCoy, something would have to give. The Eagles came into the game ranked 6th in offense and 24th in total defense. Polar opposites, the Raves came into the game ranked 6th in total defense and 25th in offense. That 6th ranked defense lived up to it's hype early on. The Eagles first few possessions started out promising, but 3 straight field goals only led to 9 points for the team in green. They knew they would have to eventually find the endzone to get the W against this AFC North stalwart. The Ravens would take a 10-6 lead into halftime with a last second touchdown when Joe Flacco found Mike Sims-Walker. The Ravens D held the Eagle passing game and Ryan Tannehill to a season low 45 yards in this game. Jeremy Maclin went without a reception for the first time in God knows how long. Realizing this, as they had in the previous week against the Giants, the Eagle offense turned to their star back Lesean McCoy. Once thought to be on the trading block in Philadelphia, McCoy is having another all-pro type of season. When needed he has constantly stepped up for this ball club, as he did yesterday afternoon. McCoy rushed for 161 yards on 18 carries and 1 beautiful TD run. On the play McCoy made a blitzing DE miss in the backfield and got a very nice block from LG Evan Mathis up the field, which set him free on his journey to the promised land. On the other side, Ray Rice was held in check all game long. Only rushing for 40 yards on 14 carries, Rice was starting to show signs of frustration. He did however end up punching one in the endzone. The Eagles had this game in check 24-10 with under 3 minutes to play. On a critical 4th and 2 from the 50, Joe Flacco threw a short dump off pass which was broken up in a pile of Eagle/Ravens players. However the refs caught Rodgers-Cromartie and called him for defensive pass interference. That would give the Ravens new life in the game, and Flacco would take advantage. He quickly drove his team down the field and would eventually put 7 more on the board for the Ravens. 24-17 at the 2 minute warning. After holding the Eagles to a quick three and out, the Ravens found themselves with the ball and a golden opportunity. But after 4 quick plays that opportunity was dashed by the Eagles D who held strong on 4th down. The Eagles would escape Philly with the win 24-17. The Eagles go to 9-5 on the season and are still fighting for the #3 seed in the NFC with the Cardinals. Next up for the Eagles are the Minnesota Vikings, who at 2-11 are in a fight for the #1 draft pick. The Ravens drop to 9-5 and barring a Bengals victory this week against the NY Giants, could be playing for the division next week when they host Cinncinnati.
