The Philadelphia Eagles would fittingly enter this season where their last one ended, literally. In Jerry's World, under the lights in Cowboy Stadium. Last time they were there they got beaten in a playoff game to the eventual Superbowl Champs, the Dallas Cowboys. In an attempt to regain their NFC East crown, the Eagles knew it would start right away against this tough divisonal rival. The Eagles would open the game with the football. QB Ryan Tannehill would lead a beautiful 4 minute drive down the field which was capped off with a TD run by RB Dion Lewis. On the ensuing kickoff, Mychal Kendricks would pop return man Felix Jones at the 20 yard line and was able to jar the ball loose. Eagle linebacker Jamar Chaney, who has been rumored to be on the chopping block in Philly, scooped up the loose ball and the Eagles were right back in business. Wasting no time, on the very first play, Tannehill hit Jeremy Maclin in the endzone to put the Eagles up 14-0 early in the ball game. Dallas would not be discouraged though. On what was finally their opening drive of the 2016 season, QB Tony Romo found WR Dez Bryant multiple times for big gains. He maneuvered his Cowboys down the field for what would eventually turn into a touchdown for TE Jason Witten. The Eagles, however; would clamp down on defense until the 4th quarter where things got interesting. Up 24-7, the Eagles were caught letting their foot off the gas. The Cowboys, down 24-10 at this point, would get in the endzone late in the game making it 24-17. Knowing they needed the ball back, and with few timeouts, they attempted the onside kick around the 2 minute mark. And whatta ya know, they recovered! Romo and company were back in business driving to tie up the game and send us to overtime. They would march all the way down to about the Philly 25 yard line with 3 ticks left on the clock. To this point, TE Jason Witten had been a primary focal point for Romo in the passing game. Witten ammassed 6 catches on the day for 55 yards and 1 TD. Not a bad day for the savy vet. On the final play Romo went to Witten one more time, however Kurt Coleman stepped in front of his pass and picked it off to end the game. Philadelphia escaped Dallas and got a big win to open the season. Next Up: The Eagles will travel to the Georgia Dome to take on those pesky Atlanta Falcons, who are also coming off a week 1 victory. The Cowboys will make the short trip down to Houston to take on the in-state rival Houston Texans.
