Charlotte, NC - The Philadelphia Eagles headed down to Carolina to take on the Panthers in a game that impacts both teams playoff futures. The Eagles at 8-6 needed a win to have a realistic shot at the playoffs while the Panthers were looking to take charge of the NFC south. A Panther win would put them in the drivers seat for the division crown while a loss could shatter their playoff dreams. In a game that saw some huge injuries, it would be the Philadelphia Eagles that would come away with a hard fought 34-18 win on the road. Bryce Brownb and Delone Carter combined for 136 yards rushing including a touchdown to help pace the Eagles offense. Bram Greenlea continued his strong play completing 13-20 for 299 yards and two touchdowns. The game would start off with the Eagles getting the ball. After a strong kickoff return by Bryce Brown, the Eagles went to work in the air. Bram Greenlea would hit Jim Casey for a 10 yard gain. on 3rd down, Greenlea would hit Maclin on crossing route and he would nearly take it the distance. LeSean McCoy would scored from two yards out to give the Eagles the lead 7-0. The Panthers would try and answer on the next possession. They nearly tied it up but a huge pass deflection by Earl Wolf held the Panthers to 3 points. The Eagles would go back to work using their ground attack but suffered a devestating injury. LeSean McCoy rushed for a first down but would be hit hard. McCoy would be helped off the field holding his shoulder and presumed to be out for the rest of the season. The injury forced the Eagles to use their depth and that they did. Bryce Brown would be forced to the featured back and he played admirably. The speed of Brown with the bruising running of Delone Carter paid dividends during the game. The Panthers however were never out of this game. The issue that plagued the Panthers in this game was their inability to punch the ball into the endzone when in the red area. The Panthers needed to settle for 4 field goals on the day which forced them to play catch up in the second half. Bram Greenlea would put the game nearly out of reach when he hit Maclin against a big blitz and the speedy receiver took it the distance for his second touchdown on the game. The Panthers offense certainly did its part to keep it close. QB EJ Manuel threw for over 300 yards on the day. The Panthers did have a pair of 100 yard receivers in Devery Henderson and Robert Woods. The balance in playcalling comes out in this one as the score forced the Panthers into a passing mode as they only rushed for 15 times as opposed to passing nearly 40 times on the day. With the win, the Eagles have an inside shot on the playoffs but its not entirely clear if they control their own destiny. A win by the Bucs over the Cowboys would help secure the spot for the Eagles. Additionally a loss by the Cardinals would certainly help as well. The Eagles finish up the regular season against the Steelers. A win against the Steelers should propel the Eagles into the playoffs as the 5th or 6th seed.
