In this match up we have two very different teams headed in possibly different directions. The Pistons are a bit of a cinderella story this year as nobody expected them to make the playoffs much less be a 3 seed, but the outstanding play of Brandon Knight and a new coaching scheme has payed dividends. The Celtics have been one of the powers out east but this year they really hit a few road bumps along the way to the playoffs. They are still a very dangerous team with their amount of experience and Eric Gordon.

    Keys to the Series:

PG Play - Rondo vs Knight will be the marquee match up. Can Rondo put a lid on Knights scoring ability and force the Pistons to look for points elsewhere. Detroit's gameplan against Rondo has been to let him roam free and force the other guys to drain there shots. Will that plan still be effective in the playoffs?

Will Detroit get a fast start: If Detroit doesnt grab the 1st two games at the Palace it will dramatically decrease their chances to take the series. Boston has too much experience and in a one or two game series they are quite dangerous especially at home. Detroit needs to hold onto the momentum.

Athleticism vs Experience : Will Detroit's depth advantage and young legs prove to be the difference or will Boston's calm and experience lead them to the next round.

Pistons in 5. I'll give Boston one of their 2 home games, but Detroit has been too good to go down early. I like them to get to the conference finals.

    Detroit takes Game 1 88-79

Thanks to a dominating performance from Jason Maxiell The Pistons grab the victory at home in round 1. The Crowd was electric and they didnt die down all game thanks to one Maxiell power dunk after the other. Nobody could stop this guy from getting to the rim and he finished 12-17 for 27 points. Monroe turned in a solider performance as well with 17 and 9. It was clear early what the strategy would be. Take it at Kevin Garnett and Jermaine O Neal and force them to make stops. Garnett had two fouls within the 1st minute of the game and was sent to the bench. Knight was a big part of the game offensively with only 11 points but he did have 6 assists in the 1st half. Defensively Detroit's gameplan was to use knight as a helper on defense against Allen , Gordon and Pierce while only guarding rondo if he came near the paint. Rondo did finish with 25 7 and 7 but he didnt get much help as only one other celtic was in double figures. Boston appeared to figure something out though late in the game and started trying to bring Rondo down into the post and keep him hovering around the paint, they went on a bit of a run towards the end but it wasnt enough. Next up is Game 2 where Detroit looks to keep its lead.
