Most people felt the Atlantic Coast Conference has been one of the strongest conferences from top to bottom year in and year out. The ACC won the ACC vs B1G challenge yet again this season. Last year, the ACC came down between Wake Forest and North Carolina, in a game that would determine who went to a BCS Bowl and who was left out. North Carolina came up with the win, and traveled to the Orange Bowl, while Wake Forest, who was stunned that Clemson got a BCS bowl bid over them, had to deal with not getting the respect they deserved. Most people felt that Wake Forest would take that motivation and run with it this year, and use that motivation to get them to a BCS bowl his year, and at the very least, represent the Atlantic division of the ACC, but the chances of them making it now look grim. Their coach has taken a leave of absence citing personal matters right before the biggest game of it's season against Clemson. North Carolina, who has represented the Coastal Division for as long as I can remember, was beat on a 49 yard Hail Mary by Virginia in a game that easily an Instant Classic. This is how the ACC shapes up. Atlantic DivisionClemsonClemson has two losses on the season, one to Iowa, and then dropped a conference game, but not a division game, to North Carolina. Clemson takes on Wake Forest this week, and with a win, which most people predict over a coach less team, will pretty much insure them a spot in the Conference Championship game unless something unforeseen happens in the near future that is. After Wake Forest, their schedule is pretty easy and all games are games that should be won, but anything can happen. NC StateNC State has dropped one conference game, and it was to Clemson, and they do have a very touch game coming up against North Carolina, but if they can beat UNC, they will have an outside shot at the Conference Championship game. They would, however, not control their own destiny and would need for Clemson to lose at least one more game. Both currently have just 1 loss in conference, so anything could happen. A win by NC State this week could put the pressure on the Tigers. Coastal Division ViriginaVirginia pretty much has the Coastal division locked up. They are currently undefeated in conference, and out of conference play, and have no tough games left on their schedule. They've squeaked out some very close games with 2 three point wins and a two point win to keep this impressive streak going. In order for them to miss out on the Conference Championship game, they would have to lose not 1, but 2 games because they hold the tie breaker over North Carolina with a head to head win. If the Cavilers handle business like they should, they will be going to a Conference Championship, with hopes of a National Championship game on their mind. *B1G write up will come later.
