ESPN Game Of The Week Recap #2 Oregon AT #9 USC Welcome To The ESPN Game Of The Week Recap... Brought To You By Reese's®.. reminding you that "Theres No WRONG way to Eat A Reese's®" .....::This Game Of The Week Featured::...... Jeremiah Masoli and his #2 Oregon Ducks VS Matt Barkley and the #9 USC Trojans The scene in the Los Angeles Coliseum Was ELECTRIC as the student body had the place ROCKING hoping that their USC Trojans could knock off the Oregon Ducks, killing their BCS CHAMPIONSHIP hopes along with placing USC in great position for a PAC-10 title. But if thought Oregon was going down without a fight.... The first quarter so both offenses keep it tight, not wanting to LOSE the game early on a silly TURNOVER so both teams kept it conservative. The only score came from a 17-yard pass from Matt Barkley to TE Blake Ayles. The quarter ended 7-0 USC up. TOO FRIENDLY? Ayles Aids Oregon Player Up after scoring TD To Open the 2nd Quarter Oregon Coach Dakota told his players "You guys are gonna just them score on you and then give you a hand?! This is football.. Go Out there and SHOW them why WE are the BEST team in the PAC-10!!" The Ducks immediately responded first driving down the field to notch a FG and then COMPLETLY SHUTTING DOWN the Trojan offense. The Ducks Defense was swarming, SWATTING balls and "LAYING THE SMACK DOWN" on recievers to jar it lose before they could establish possession. Then when they got the ball back, the DUCK offense QUACK QUACKED all the way down the field ending the drive with a beautiful 9 Yard rush by Masoli on a QB option putting the ducks up 10-7 with 1:51 seconds left in the quarter. Masoli Shows the Trojan D his LEGS can Beat them Too Knowing that his team would be kicking the ball off to Oregon to start the 2nd half off Coach DreSmithJr knew his teams time was NOW to swing momentum back their way with a Touchdown Drive. He looked to Matt Barkley to lead the team in the 2minute Drill.. and that he did. Making great reads, and being SNIPER accurate, Barkley got the Trojans in position for a TD that got finished off with a Dillon Baxter 5 Yard Td Rush with 19 Secs left. Baxter Celebrates after putting Trojans up 14-10 The Next turn of events was the "LUCKIEST SH*T Ive Seen In A While" Coach Dakota knowing that the Trojans would be playing a SOFT ZONE to prevent a hail mary, called a HB Screen to BURNER LaMichael James to hopefully catch the defense off guard. What instead happened was OLB Michael Smith being used as a Speed Rusher in quarters defense not only READ the screen, but also INTERCEPTED the ball and returned it for a score to put the Trojans up 21-10 at half and put the MOMENTUM ARROW strongly in USC's favor. Half Time Scoreboard The 2nd half opened with both defense again showing their faces initially with both teams getting the ball twice and being stopped. Then out of no where a rapid scoring sequence. First from Oregon the QB showing great POISE and MOXIE Jermiah Masoli drove the Ducks down the field with ease with a mix of pass, option, and run. He Finished the drive off with a gorgeous 27 yard TD pass to DJ Davis. Then Coach Dakota electing NOT to go for 2, took the XP putting the score at 17-21. Cutting The USC Lead, WR DJ Davis Scores A TD for the DUCKS When USC got the ball back.. then didnt play it safe and sit on the lead remembering what happened against Texas earlier in the year. Matt Barkley brought his gun holster and was SLINGING the football. He dropped back and saw Freshmen stand-out WR Kyle Prater open across the middle and connected with him. Prater then caught a fortunate block from All-American Ronald Johnson and broke free for the TD. Praters HUGE TD put USC up 28-17 On The First play from the Ducks following the USC TD, Masoli ran an option that got Intercepted By USC CD T.J Bryant who returned it for a TD putting the Trojans up 35-17 and sending the USC crowd into an EXPLOSION of EXCITEMENT. The 4th quarter saw USC play the ball control roll, playing keep away from the Oregon Ducks. The Trojans played some good defense as well coming up with some key interceptions and a huge sack. Tough Defense in the 4th was Key for the Trojans Although being held in complete check the whole game, somehow someway the USC running game and Freshmen Dillon Baxter carried the load and broke some HUGE plays in the process. Baxter broke runs of 90, and 91 at the end of the game to give the score more of a lopsided look then it deserved. The Oregon Ducks played an amazing and tough game and only costly turnovers and USC's ability to turn them into TDs was the difference.
