This looks awesome for a team site. I'm so anxious to pick. I think I've got my squad picked if they are still available.

    LOSC LILLE SEASON PREVIEW

    SEASON OUTLOOK:

It is anyone's guess who will finish atop the inaugural TFL Serie A table. Powerhouses from Italy and Germany dominate the league, but the lone entry from France will look to assert their dominance early on in the campaign. The Mastiffs defense is solid, led by loanee Adil Rami and goalkeeper Mickaël Landreau. Lille's midfield, led by Captain Rio Mavuba should be well-prepared for the start of the season. But the real strength of the team lies up front, with Gervinho, Moussa Sow and prodigy Eden Hazard tormenting the opposing defenses. The subs bench is adequate in depth and skill, but the reserves present a real drop-off in talent. In order to compete the entire season, LOSC Lille will have to stay healthy and stay out of the referees book.

    PLAYERS TO WATCH:

    EDEN HAZARD #26
    [IMG]

The Belgian wunderkind has been linked to the world's top football clubs, including Arsenal and Barcelona, but for the time being, he plies his trade with LOSC Lille. Hazard will be a mainstay on the LW this season. He is considered the playmaker of the team, and can drop into midfield if necessary.

    GERVINHO #27
    [IMG]

While the Ivorian will play on the RW opposite Hazard, he will be expected to contribute just as much to the attack. Both wingers will need to provide good service into the box as well as a deft touch around goal.

    ADIL RAMI #23
    [IMG]

On loan from Valencia for the season, the up-and-coming French CB will be looked upon to lead the back line for The Mastiffs. Cool passing out of the back and a tendency to make the occasional run forward are the hallmarks of the big CB.

    OPENING FIXTURES REVEALED

    [IMG] [IMG]

Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille will open the inaugural Serie A season at home against VfL Wolfsburg, followed by a trip to Italian powerhouse Napoli. While the manager is happy to open the season in front of the home fans, he will be worried that his squad might be caught looking ahead to the trip to Italy. It will be important for LOSC Lille to get off to a good start to the season, and the manager will be expecting nothing less than 4 points out of 6 to open the season. The full schedule will be posted in the coming days.

LILLE TOP EVERTON IN WARM UP

    [IMG] [IMG]

Lille, FRANCE - Before leaving for Brazil, LOSC Lille defeated Everton by a score of 2-1 in a preseason friendly at the Stade Lille-Metropole. Everton's slick 1-2 passing caused problems for the Mastiffs in the first half as the Toffees maintained command of the ball. Scoreless at the break, LOSC Lille had their work cut out for them, but just 4 minutes into the second half, a beautiful early cross from LB Franck Beria found the head of Yohan Cabaye, who cooly slotted the ball past keeper Tim Howard for the 1-0 lead. Everton were not to be counted out, however. After breaking down the defense, who were playing without Adil Rami (coaches decision), Everton's Tim Cahill headed home the equalizer with 14 minutes remaining. After the goal, Lille made two changes, bringing on Pierre-Alain Frau and Ludovic Obraniak for Tulio de Melo and Eden Hazard. The changes paid off, as Frau struck home the game-winner in the 81' to settle the match.

Immediately following the post-game meal, the Mastiffs boarded a plane to head to Brazil for a friendly against Santos FC.

    ELANO SCREAMER BURIES LILLE

    [IMG] [IMG]

Santos, BRAZIL - A 40-yard free kick from Elano was all Santos FC needed to triumph over LOSC Lille in the final friendly of the preseason. On the plane ride over, both Brazilians on the team, LB Emerson and ST Tulio de Melo, begged the coach for a start in their home country. Emerson was rewarded with a start, while Tulio de Melo started the match on the substitutes bench.

The game kicked off under cloudy skies, and it didn't take long for Santos FC to get on the board. Just 10' into the game, a seemingly harmless foul turned into a fatal mistake, as Elano stepped up to the ball and curled in a screaming free kick past Mickael Landreau to give the home side the lead. The Mastiffs were in disbelief after the goal, and with Ludovic Obraniak getting the start in place of Eden Hazard, the away side wondered how they would get back in the game.

Santos FC's defense was strong in the first half, but started to show a chink in the armor in the second. Obraniak came close in the 56' with a left-footed strike that skimmed past the far post. With the clock ticking away, the manager decided it was time for a change. Moussa Sow and Obraniak were taken off, and on came Hazard and native Tulio de Melo. Both players seemed to inject some needed life into the Mastiffs attack. With 5 minutes to go and the score still 1-0, Tulio de Melo broke in on goal, but was denied by a fine save. In the 88' minute, Hazard sprung Tulio de Melo, who was once again denied a goal. Just seconds remained on the clock when a scramble in front of the net left Florent Balmont with the ball at his feet, but couldn't pull the trigger in time. The ball was cleared, and the match was over.

While LOSC Lille were disappointed to have lost, they gained much needed experience ahead of the Serie A season opener with VfL Wolfsburg. "There was really nothing we could have done about the goal, and we played well the rest of the match, so we are satisfied with the trip, yes" said the manager after the game.

    LILLE PREPARES FOR SEASON OPENER

Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille have finished up the preseason and are now preparing for the Serie A season opener at home against VfL Wolfsburg. "We are expecting a tough match from the Germans, but it is a match we should win, especially at home," said the manager during his pregame press conference. "We cannot let the opposition dictate our game. We must do what we want to do out there on the pitch and that should be enough to get the 3 points." When asked about the trip to Napoli coming up, the manager quickly dismissed any further questions. "We are focused on VfL Wolfsburg and only VfL Wolfsburg."

The home opener is set to kick off tonight at 10p. Immediately following the match, the Mastiffs will board the team plane and fly to Italy. The manager is expected to name a strong starting XI for both matches.

    LILLE OPEN SEASON WITH WIN

Hazard brace seals 3 points for Lille.

Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille defeated VfL Wolfsburg by a score of 3-2 to open the Serie A season. The home fans filled the stadium hours before kickoff, singing songs of joy that the season had finally arrived. But just as quickly as they poured in, the fans were silenced when Wolfsburg's Patrick Helmes caught the defense napping and struck home the opening goal just 8 minutes into the match. Dazed and confused, the Mastiffs tried to regroup quickly. Moussa Sow found himself one-on-one with Wolfsburg keeper Diego Benaglio in the 11', but couldn't get off a clean shot. With the score still 1-0, Lille began feeding the ball to playmaker Eden Hazard, and in the 25', it finally payed off. Hazard coolly slotted home the equalizer, a weak shot that squirted through Benaglio's arms, bounced gently off the post, and went in, sending the home fans into a frenzy. But the tricky Belgian wasn't done yet. Five minutes later, Sow rocketed a shot that was saved well by Benaglio, but Hazard was waiting for the rebound and netted his second to give the home side a 2-1 lead. Late in the half, Hazard started to assert himself, creating 2 scoring opportunities just before the break, but neither was converted.
The Mastiffs opened the second half with a flurry of shots; Florent Balmont nearly scored in the 49', but the shot was redirected. Seconds later, Hazard broke on goal, but his shot skimmed past the post. Just when the home side thought they were firmly in control, a quick 53' counter attack by Wolfsburg ended with a Diego header that found the back of the net, and the game was tied 2-2. Fearing they would drop points in front of the home fans, Lille mounted a concerted effort to score the game winner, and they didn't have to wait long. Sow gathered the ball at the top of the box in the 59' and slotted a pass to Gervinho, who made no mistake in putting home the game-winner. At the end of the match, Lille had amassed 23 shots, 15 of which were on target. Feeling confident, the Mastiffs boarded the team plane and headed for Italy, where Napoli were waiting.

LILLE BATTLE BACK FOR DRAW IN ITALY

Sow celebrates equalizer to save Lille blushes in Italy

Napoli, ITALY - The moment the Lille players stepped off the plane, they knew they were in for a real fight. Napoli is not a team to be taken lightly, and for the opening half-hour of the match, that is exactly what the Mastiffs did. It only took 3 minutes for Ezequiel Lavezzi to put the home side ahead, placing a fine shot past Lille keeper Mickael Landreau for an early 1-0 lead. Turnover after turnover led to Napoli scoring chances, and when the ball deflected out for a corner, Paolo Cannavaro wasted no time heading past Landreau to put Napoli ahead 2-0. With the team reeling after letting in an early goal for the second consecutive match, captain Rio Mavuba encouraged his team to keep at it, and good things would eventually happen. The captain was right, as Florent Balmont led the goalkeeper the wrong way and smashed home a goal to put the game within reach, 2-1. Eden Hazard then came close to the equalizer in the 35', but the shot went wide of the post.

Lille came out in the second half a different team. The defense was playing much tighter, and the attack was sharp. Landreau came up with a huge save in the 49' to deny the home side another goal. Fearing dropped points, the manager sent Ludovic Obraniak on for Mavuba to try and inject more offense in the team. With the game on the line, the Mastiffs looked to their playmaker Hazard to make something happen, and that he did. The Belgian played a nifty ball into Moussa Sow, who buried the equalizer with just 9 minutes to play. But the Mastiffs weren't done yet. A great cross into the box found the head of Sow, who hit a powerful header on goal. The shot was saved, but the ball bounced in the box to Gervinho, who put it in the back of the net, only to see the linesman's flag waving for offsides. A quick restart by Napoli put pressure on the Lille defense with just seconds left, and they would have stole all 3 points if it wasn't for Landreau's heroics in the box on what would turn out to be the last kick of the game.

    WEEK 1 REVIEW

    RECAP
Lille opened the season on a high note, earning a 3-2 win and all 3 points against VfL Wolfsburg at home. The Mastiffs gained a huge advantage in shots, with 23 taken and 15 on target. Eden Hazard netted a brace, and Gervinho struck home the game winner in the 59'. The Lille defense, however, was average at best. They were easily broken down for the first goal by Patrick Helmes in the 8', and then let in a soft equalizer in the second half.

Defensive weakness carried over to the away match at Napoli, where this time it took only 3' for the opposition to score. Napoli then put themselves ahead 2-0 off a corner kick. But the Mastiffs battled back, with Florent Balmont striking home in the 31', and Moussa Sow putting in the equalizer just 9 minutes from time. Mickael Landreau made some huge saves in the dying moments to preserve the draw.

    COACH'S WORDS
"Overall I am pleased with the results. We set out to take 4 points from the two games and that is what we did. We played hard in front of the home fans and rewarded them with a win, and in Napoli we were able to battle back and earn the draw. Our attack looks to be firing on all cylinders, but the defense needs to shape up if we want to win the Serie A title."

    WEEK 2 PREVIEW
Matchday 3 brings Italians Palermo to the Stade Lille-Metropole. They have picked up all 6 points after week one, beating Hamburg 1-0 and Genoa on the road 2-0. They will be a tough out this season, but the Mastiffs will not want to lose at home. After that Lille will travel to Brazil to face Santos FC. In a recent friendly, Santos were only able to score on a long free kick, so Lille will have to make an effort not to give away silly fouls. Santos lost away to Schalke in their first match.

    COMEBACK KIDS AT IT AGAIN

Sow the hero again for Lille against Palermo

Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille were able to steal a point at home against Serie favorites Palermo thanks to 2 late goals by Moussa Sow. The manager surely will not be pleased by yet another early goal let in, as Javier Pastore was left unmarked in the box for an easy finish just 4' into the match. With the lead in hand, the visitors controlled possession for much of the first half, forcing Mickael Landreau into a fine save in the 22'. Sow had two chances go to waste in the first half, which proved costly. A Palermo goal kick somehow found the foot of Fabrizio Miccoli, who burst pass a sleeping backline and pounded home the 2nd goal.

At the break, the Lille players were despondent. They couldn't bear the thought of putting on such a terrible performance for their loyal fans. Reinvigorated by a stirring halftime speech by captain Rio Mavuba, the Mastiffs came out guns a-blazing. In the 61', Gervinho sent in a back-post cross that found the head of Sow, who buried to cut the lead in half. The crowd came to life after the goal, and the Lille players felt that a result was still in reach. Eden Hazard, contained for most of the first half, ripped a shot in the 65' that struck the outside of the post. Two minutes later, a Hazard cross landed on the head of Gervinho, but the shot sailed over the bar. In the dying minutes of the game, Lille were on the all-out attack. Gervinho's cross bounced around in the area before leaking out to Hazard, who fired a shot on goal. The shot was deflected into the path of Sow, who ran the ball into the net for the equalizer. The Stade Lille-Metropole erupted, and what was in reality one point felt a whole lot like three.

Cabaye's solid performance leads Mastiffs in Brazil

Santos, BRAZIL - LOSC Lille finally broke out of their defensive funk to defeat Santos FC in Brazil by a score of 3-0. The match started out on a high note for the Mastiffs, who easily dispossessed Santos players and put a stranglehold on the match in the first half. Ten minutes had elapsed, and not even a shot had been unleashed on Mickael Landreau, an improvement from the last 3 games. The first Lille goal was a gift, as the goalie was unable to clear, leaving Eden Hazard alone in front of goal in the 19'. It wasn't long after that a shot by Florent Balmont was punched into the path of Yohan Cabaye, who headed home the second. Santos was continually caught offside in the first half, and were unable to muster a single shot on target.

This trend would continue in the second half. The Lille defense stood its ground when a Charles shot struck the crossbar and came out. Hazard quickly answered with a break on goal, but was crowded out at the last second. The Belgian then worked his magic once again, sending in an outside-of-the-foot cross to Moussa Sow, whose diving header sailed past the keeper for the 3-0 lead. At this point, Lille dropped into a more defensive shape, and Santos had a few dangerous runs, but Landreau was equal to the task to preserve the road win.

    WEEK 2 REVIEW

    RECAP
LOSC Lille continued their worrying trend of letting in early goals in Matchday 3 against Palermo. A 4' goal, followed by a 39' second, put the visitors ahead going into halftime. But the 'Comeback Kids' responded with two goals from Moussa Sow to steal a point at home. The Mastiffs then traveled to Brazil, where they easily dispatched Santos FC by 3-0. Yohan Cabaye put in a Man of the Match peformance with his first-half goal and stellar tackling in midfield. Eden Hazard added a goal and an assist in the winning effort.

    COACH'S WORDS
On the Palermo match: "It was disappointing to let in an early goal again, but I think we did well to respond to that and get the draw. We would have liked to win in front of the fans, but the draw was a good result. Palermo are a very good team, and could very well win the league."
On the Santos match: "It was a complete performance for the first time this season. We did not let in any goals early, we defended well, and we scored goals. I didn't think Gervinho had a particularly good game, but his teammates picked him up and we got the 3 points we needed."
On Week 3: "We have two difficult games coming up. If we win them both, we will assert ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in this league. But we will have to play like we played against Santos to do so."

    WEEK 3 PREVIEW
This week's schedule bring the bread to Lille's sandwich. First up, Udinese travel to France. Sitting just one point behind the Mastiffs, it will be important to get all 3 at home. After that, Lille travel to Turkey to face Bursaspor. The Turks are one point ahead of Lille in the table. Both matches will be tough, and it will be extremely important to get positive results in both matches.

LILLE LET LEAD SLIP AT HOME vs UDINESE

Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille and Udinese battled to a 1-1 draw at the Stade Lille-Metropole after an early lead went to waste for the hosts. Once again it was Moussa Sow who put the Mastiffs in front, scoring his 5th of the season with a splendid overhead finish of an Eden Hazard cross. After the goal, both teams struggled to find the net, with the teams combining for 5 first-half shots.

The second half started just as the first, with both teams trying to maintain possession and get a shot on target. Later on in the half, the Lille defense started to show signs of fatigue, and in the 81', Mickael Landreau was forced into a fine save of A. Di Natale's shot, but conceded a corner kick. On that corner, Di Natale's kick found the head of M. Benatia, who pounded the equalizer past a helpless Landreau. Netiher team could muster a go-ahead goal, and the match ended 1-1.

    WEEK 3 REVIEW

    RECAP
LOSC Lille threw away 2 point at home against Udinese in a shortened matchweek. Moussa Sow continued his fine run of form with a superb overhead finish to put the Mastiffs up 1-0 going into halftime. But the visitors struck 8 minutes from time after shaky marking in the box left M. Benatia unmarked for an easy header. The fixture against Bursaspor will be made up during the league break.

    COACH'S WORDS
On the Udinese match: "We really felt we were going to come away with a huge result, but we had a momentary lapse of judgment and conceded the equalizer. It was not an ideal result, but we are still unbeaten on the season and will hope to continue in the same fashion."
On Wednesday's Cup Draw: "Of course we will hope for a first-round bye, but our fate is not in our control. We will hope for the best and prepare for the worst."

    WEEK 4 PREVIEW
Week 4 brings two extremes to the Mastiffs' title chase. First up, title favorites CSKA Moscow visit the Stade Lille-Metropole. It will be important to contain Seydou Doumbia, and at the same time muster some sort of attack against a team that has allowed just 3 goals all seaon. Lille then travel to Everton, where the Toffees are camped out at the bottom of the table. A win and all three points is expected in England.

DREAM DRAW FOR LILLE IN CUP

Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille were given a Round 1 bye and arguably the easiest draw of the competition this afternoon in the TFL Cup Draw. The winner of the Round 1 tie between Everton and Santos will travel to the North of France in Round 2. "We are very excited and extremely fortunate to have received this draw," said the manager after the event. "We have already beaten Santos once this season and expect to triumph over Everton this week, so we should have no problem reaching Round 3." Full of confidence, the manager hinted that some of his regulars might be given a rest in order to prepare for the Cup tie after Matchday 12. "It will be a lot of waiting, so we will be able to focus on our League campaign for a while and not be too distracted with the Cup."

When asked if he had any input in the Cup draw, the manager was quick to squelch any such rumors. "Absolutely not," said the manager. "Just because the draw was held here and we received an easy draw does not mean I had any influence over the proceedings. I was not even allowed in the room while the draw was taking place. Thank goodness this system is only in place for one season so I do not have to keep dealing with your incessant pestering trying to create drama and rumors throughout the league."

    DISAPPOINTING DRAW IN LILLE
    IMG
    CAP
Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille let yet another lead slip in the dying minutes of the match, this time against CSKA Moscow, to draw 1-1 at home. The Mastiffs had plenty of chances to increase their lead following a 69' penalty goal by Yohan Cabaye, but CSKA goalkeeper stood tall on multiple occasions to preserve the 1-goal deficit.
Moscow came out in the first half looking to attack. Seydou Doumbia had multiple opportunities to score, but was denied each time. First by a fine save from Mickael Landreau, and later on a clean tackle by Aurelien Chedjou. With only 1 shot on goal in the first half, the Mastiffs looked to be overmatched. But the second half was a different story, as Lille dominated from the first kick of the ball. Eden Hazard broke on goal and ripped a shot on target. The resulting rebound came straight to Moussa Sow who smashed it in, only to be brought back for offsides. Minutes later, Hazard was brought down in the box for a clear penalty, which Cabaye had no trouble putting away to give the home side a 1-0 lead. It then became the Landreau show, as on multiple occasions he made gigantic saves to keep his team ahead. But a slick ball from Dzagoev found a streaking Keisuke Honda, who eased past a helpless defender and broke in on goal. Honda easily slotted home the equalizer, and minutes later the whistle blew.
What surely looked like a monumental win quickly turned into a meager point, but one that the manager will be pleased with considering the opponent and the way his team performed.

LILLE LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK

Lille, FRANCE - Sitting 8th in the Serie A table is surely a disappointing start to the season, but with 2 games in hand, the Mastiffs have ample time to make up ground and contend for a League title. As the only remaining unbeaten team in the Serie A, the manager will be hoping to take 6 points from matches against FC Shalke and Genoa this week.

    7-GOAL THRILLER GOES TO LILLE

Gervinho celebrates late goal to push Lille ahead of Schalke.

Lille, FRANCE - LOSC Lille traded goals with FC Schalke 04 until there was no time on the clock. Lucky for the Mastiffs to strike last. A last-gasp goal from Gervinho put the home side ahead 4-3 and delivered 3 vital points to the still-unbeaten Lille squad.

Like any Lille match, the scoring started early. This time, however, Moussa Sow buried a beautifully slotted pass from Yohan Cabaye in the 3' to go ahead 1-0. Lille dominated possession throughout the match, but poor marking, which has haunted the Mastiffs all season, reared its ugly head once again, allowing Klas-Jan Huntelaar to head home the equailzer in the 16'. Not to be outdone, Eden Hazard put on a show, weaving his way through the Schalke defense and unleashing a shot that had to be well-saved by Manuel Neuer. The German keeper couldn't keep him out for long though, as just five minutes from halftime, Hazard got on the end of a Gervinho cross and put in the 2nd goal.

At the break, it seemed the Mastiffs would have no problem dispatching of the German side, but defensive lapses kept Schalke alive. Huntelaar broke away from a high line in the 55' and put home another equalizer to make the score 2-2. Gervinho then cut in on goal and took a shot, only to have it blocked for a corner. The set-piece proved fruitful, as Adil Rami bagged his first goal of the season to make the score 3-2. With just 15 minutes left in the game, Lille were determined not to let in another goal, but Huntelaar had other ideas, turning a helpless Franck Beria and taking a good shot past Mickael Landreau for the hattrick and the third equalizer of the match. Both teams seemed content to settle for the draw, but with the referee checking his watch, Hazard seemed more determined to get the 3 points. The Belgian wunderkind forced a huge save out of Neuer, and the resulting set-piece had the German keeper coming up large again. With just seconds left in the game, Hazard found himself in open space with a streaking Gervinho. The pass was weighted perfectly, Neuer charged out to cut off the angle but the Ivorian made no mistake about it. 4-3 the score, Huntelaar had one final chance to equalize but could not convert.
