NEWS: It appears that Newcastle United will be starting Season 2 in Serie B with five straight Away Games. Asked about the difficult start to the Season, Manager HokieNYC said,

"... we are just glad to get the opportunity to play, obviously it would be fantastic to get away with as much points as possible, but the League is a tough one, and five straight away games makes it unrealistic to walk away with 15 points. That being said, we will make a run at it and hopefully at the end, we can steal a few wins and salvage a few points in other draws..."

    NEWS: Newcastle 2-2 Udinese

Newcastle started off Season 2 with a visit to Udinese, salvaging a Draw after shooting an abysmal 23 percent. Udinese played classic Italian football, with tenacious Defense and superb goalkeeping. Only an own goal in the 68th minute from Udinese, galvanized the Newcastle squad as momentum swung towards the away side in the 2nd Half. Udinese looked like they were about to walk away with 3 points when, C. Tiote, subbed in at the 68th minute for an highly ineffective S. Ireland, found some open space in the dying seconds and rifled a low corner shot to steal a point from the Home side.

    GOALS
    7 ' A. Sanchez (Udinese)
    56 ' P. Armero (Udinese)
    68' G. Pinzi (Udinese) OG
    90' C. Tiote (Newcastle)

    CARDS
    J. Barton: Yellow (Newcastle)

"... our horrid shooting will make this a very long Season, we need to get back to the Pitch and learn to shoot. Right now we can't hit a side of a Barn, from 3 feet out if we wanted too... Hats off to Friz, manager of Udinese.. and Good Luck the rest of the way..."

    NEWS: Newcastle 2 - 2 FC Schalke

Second game of the Season had Newcastle visiting Veltin arena to face Bundesliga power FC Schalke. The game was a tale of two halves as FC Schalke dominated the scoring in the first half as J. Farfan found the back of the net in the 27th minute to put the homeside 1-0. Newcastle attempted to answer but were denied by the post on a couple of occasions and by the Bayern bound Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. K. Huntelaar doubled the homeside lead when he scored in the 41st minute, sending the visiting side into Half beaten. Second half found a more aggressive Newcastle side as they strung several passes together only to be held back by a stalwart Schalke Defense. Ben Arfa ended the drought as he was found streaking down the middle to slot in a goal past the very strong goalkeeper in the 79th minute. Two minutes later Ben Arfa found the back of the net again as he wrong footed M. Neuer to slide in the equalizer in the 81st minute. Huntelaar almost put the home side back up seconds later but his shot was found wanting. Match ended 2-2 as once again, Our Newcastle United found themselves scratching their way back into a match in the second Half.

    GOALS
    27' J. Farfan (Schalke)
    41' K. Huntelaar (Schalke)
    79' H. Ben Arfa (Newcastle)
    81' H. Ben Arfa (Newcastle)

    INJURY
    28' P. Lovenkrands (Newcastle)

"...now that we fixed our shooting issue, it seems that Defending the Air, seems to be in the books. Two goals from crosses, and a poor performance from our Number 1, doomed us to stealing a point rather than walking away with three. It is early in the Season, but if our Number 1 does not start stopping shots, he may find himself fighting to keep that title..."

    NEWS: Newcastle 2- 2 Sampdoria

Newcastle visited Sampdoria for Match 3 of the young Season. The game was a an even handed affair, in which Newcastle found themselves ahead for the first time in the Season, when J. Barton found Kevin Nolan slashing down the middle to slide in the first goal of the match in the 12th minute. The rest of the Half found little excitement on the Pitch as both Teams battled it out on center pitch. The Half ended with Newcastle up 1-0. Again, it was a horrid shooting affair for the visiting side, and in the 2nd Half Sampdoria grabbed a foothold of the momentum, as J. Biabiany found the back of the net in the 57th minute and again in the 71st. Sampdoria could only celebrate for a few seconds, as Newcastle's K. Nolan slid the ball under the goalkeeper for his brace in the 72nd minute. Ben Arfa almost stole the match in the 86th minute when he spun away from his Defender and shot the ball past the diving keeper, only to be denied by the goal post. This time around, all the deficiency of the Team was in full force, shooting a pathetic 25% from the pitch, giving up a headed goal from 10 yards out and an out of his depth Keeper unable to stop a dribbling header from finding the Net. Newcastle found themselves lucky to leave Sampdoria with a point as the Team played poorly in every aspect of the game. Only the fluid passing of the Team kept this game close enough to walk away with a point.

    GOALS
    12' K. Nolan (Newcastle)
    57' J. Biabiany (Sampdoria)
    71' J. Biabiany (Sampdoria)
    72' K. Nolan (Newcastle)

    INJURY
    87' J. Gutierrez

"... very lucky match for us today, The Defense needs work, and we still need to Defend the Air better. K. Nolan was fantastic and thanks to him we were in this match. The shooting needs work and obviously if S. Harper (GK) is not up to par in this campaign, it may be time to give the younger lads a try. Disappointing performance from a couple of lads tonight and maybe it is time to shake up this line up...Well played to Mustang20241, good luck the rest of the Season..."

    NEWS: Newcastle 1 - 3 West Ham

Finally Newcastle's poor shooting and shoddy Defense gives way to a Defeat. In a Match marred by technical difficulties, Newcastle were unable to answer back to back to back goals from West Ham's Carlton Cole. As Newcastle could not mount an offense to keep up with a stalwart West Ham D. Mysteriously, Manager HokieNYC did not have Ben Arfa on the bench for this Match and with a highly ineffective strike force- Newcastle was unable to mount an answer.

    7' Carlton Cole (West Ham)
    13' P. Loverkrands (Newcastle)
    50' C. Cole (West Ham)
    60' C. Cole (West Ham)

"Eventually our luck was gonna run out- we ran into a very good Defense today, and Cole blew up on us... that in a nutshell was our day..." Good game Boogs.. See you in St. James..."

    NEWS Newcastle 1 - 0 FC Santos

A win for Newcastle and a very good showing from their Number 1 S. Harper. In the 5th and final away game of the long road trip, Newcastle steals a win from FC Santos. As Santos Goalkeeper kept the Newcastle offense at bay stopping shot after shot as Newcastle peppered the goal with scoring chances. J. Barton was able to wrestle a jump ball away from a Defender and slot the only goal of the game in the 65' minute. Finally a good showing for on the Defensive end after the atrocious display against West Ham. Limiting the Santos offense to only 3 shots on goal.

    65' J. Barton

    CLEAN SHEET- S. Harper

"... finally a Defense that showed up to play. Hopefully its a beginning of a trend for us...can't wait to get home and play in front of our home crowd. 6 points out of 15 is not a bad result after 5 away matches... Good Game Roger...Good Luck the rest of the way"

    NEWS Newcastle 5 - 1 Fiorentina

Newcastle opens up St. James Park with a very convincing win for the Home Opener. In a show of Offensive power, Newcastle wrestled the game away from a very determined Fiorentina squad after an own goal by Fiorentina's L. De Silvestri. Defender S. Campbell got loose in the box unmarked for an open header during a corner to start the scoring spree, as J. Barton put away a dubious penalty call to make it a 3-0 lead. The Forwards for Newcastle got on the board, as P. Loverkrands, put away a parried shot from the Fiorentina keeper and sub S. Ameobi got free in the dying minutes to put away his first goal of the season.

    L. De Silvestri (OG) FIORENTINA (7')
    S. Campbell NEWCASTLE (31')
    J. Barton (PK) NEWCASTLE (57')
    F. Coloccini (OG) NEWCASTLE (71')
    P. Lovenkrands NEWCASTLE (74')
    S. Ameobi NEWCASTLE (90')

"... it was great to watch the whole Team score today- two defenders a midfielder and two forwards, a sub as well... Yes, Coloccini scored on the wrong end... but that was a bit unlucky. It was a great way to open up St. James. Fiorentina was a good sport, unfortunate that the game got away from them- Good Game GoDevils... best of luck the rest of the way..."

    NEWS Newcastle 7 - 1 VfB Stuttgart

Newcastle continues its offensive march at home as they defeat a visiting Stuttgart 7-1 in the pouring rain at St. Jame's Park. A Hat Trick from Midfielder J. Gutierrez, caps of an evening in which Manager HokieNYC, sat several starters to begin the Match. A move that was rewarded by a brace from S. Ameobi and R. Taylor, both new starters for today's Match. It was a match that Newcastle could not lose, as the rain slowed down a fast Stuttgart squad, and a sending off Stuttgart's Cacau made it near impossible for the visiting side to threaten S. Harper net. Four goals in a span of 6 minutes was enough to undo the visiting side as Newcastle runs away with 3 points.

    J. Gutierrez NEWCASTLE (16', 44' , 86')
    K. Nolan NEWCASTLE (17')
    S. Ameobi NEWCASTLE (19' 71')
    R. Taylor NEWCASTLE (22')
    Z. Kuzmanovic VfB STUTTGART (88')

"...it was a game we had the advantage from the start, the rain nullified the speed of Stuttgart and we ran away when they lost their firepower in Cacau. Unfortunate for their manager, as they were unable to mount an effective offense, which kept the ball on their side of the pitch for most of the match. This win, impressive as it was, must be kept in perspective- the Ref helped us out some, but it was a good showing from our mid field..."

    NEWS Newcastle 0 - 2 Beshiktas

Newcastle drops first home loss in a shut out, as Beshiktas dominates a hapless Newcastle. Unable to find anything resembling a shot on goal- Newcastle's Number gets beaten by an unfortunate clearing and another header. Beshiktas laid siege on the Newcastle Defense and in a 2 minute timespan, Newcastle United takes themselves out of the match as Bobo from Beshiktas kills any hope of a win with a brace.

    NEWS Newcastle 1 - 3 Werder Bremen

Newcastle fails to defend the Set Pieces as Werder Bremen invades St. James and punishes the Toon's lack of aerial prowess, dropping two matches in a row at Home. In a Match that had Newcastle shots wanting for goals and a superb showing from the visiting sides Goal Keeper, doomed Newcastle to a Home defeat. In another abysmal shooting performance, the Newcastle fans went home frustrated at the lack of accuracy displayed by the homeside. The German Defense held the Magpies to long shots and again the post proved an ally for the visiting squad as it denies Newcastle once again. C. Pizzarro dropped a brace and M. Arnautovic started the scoring as Werder Bremen slowly pulled away from a hapless Newcastle Squad- who squandered away several open looks at goal. S. Ameobi added to his Season tally but it was barely a consolation as Newcastle suffers a Defeat.

    M. Arnautovic WERDER BREMEN 17'
    C. Pizzaro WERDER BREMEN 45'
    C. Pizzaro WERDER BREMEN 66'
    S. Ameobi NEWCASTLE 83'

"...their Goal Keeper put on a superb display today, add to that are lack of accuracy and we all know how it ends, Its never good to lose, but to lose at home, after dominating the 1st half and finding ourselves down 2 goals on corners, it is a poor showing, we deserved to lose today- Werder Bremen was the more efficient Team on the pitch.... Good Game XYZ, see you for the Rematch..."

a shoot out at St. James Park, Newcastle walks away with three points against Spartak Moscow. In a Battle of the mid table, Newcastle regains their scoring touch as they score 5 or more goals for a third game this season. S. Ameobi continues his scoring streak as he opens the scoring with a low shot as he was found streaking pass his defender in the 7th minute. Spartak Moscow answer back with 2 straight goals- a screamer from Alex and a beautiful curled shot away from S. Harper by Wellington. Spartak were unable to celebrate too long as Ben Arfa was found streaking down the box by S. Ameobi to tie up the match in the 25th minute. K. Nolan heads in the go ahead goal in the 40th minute, and P. Lovenkrands adds a brace to pull away from the visiting side. Wellington completes his brace, to keep the waning minutes interesting, but Lovenkrands second goal in the 90th minute, ended any hopes of stealing a point from the Homeside.

Ameobi continues his scoring march with a 34' strike from the edge of the box that beats the stellar visiting goal keeper. In a Revenge Match against West Ham in the TFL Cup, Newcastle pulls away from the Home side as S. Ameobi continues his scoring streak netting a brace and C Tiote and K. Nolan adds on to the score line to pull away from West Ham United. Shooting an abysmal 33% from the field- Newcastle was fortunate enough to have easy scoring opportunities as a misplayed back pass found S. Ameobi one V one against the goal keeper for Newcastle's first goal. S Ameobi again found himself one on one with a West Hame defender which he easily wrong footed to get an open shot on goal. C Tiote was found open by S. Ameobi as West Ham goal keeper charged to make the score line 3-1. NEWS Newcastle 0 - 0 Udinese

In a rematch of the first game of the Season, Newcastle finds themselves with similar results against a determined Udinese side. It was a fortunate draw for the home side as Udinese squanders away an open netter in the waning minutes of the match. The game left little to highlight, as both Teams struggled to break past the Defense and alert goal keepers. In the end, a Draw was a respectable score line for the Match. Although Udinese manager, will probably have nighmares of the Goal that never was....

".... It was a very fortunate draw, I dont know what S. Harper was thinking, but I am glad it did not end up biting him back in the end... Good Game Friz, and Good Luck the rest of the way..."

In the last match of the regular Season, Newcastle ends it with a win. It was a match that Newcastle dominated from the beginning, and with an early goal from J. Gutierrez. Newcastle comfortably ends the Serie B Season with 40 points, putting them a top the Serie B group with only Schalke and Sampdoria mathematically able to displace them. Either way Newcastle is guaranteed a top 3 finish for the season.
