This season we will introduce the Serie A MVP Award. Here's how it's going to work:

Each manager can nominate ONE player from their own team. Once ALL the nominations have been received, the board (myself, zikry, friz, bronc, shiftee, ucan) will select 5 finalists. The 5 finalists will be put up for vote during the Pro/Rel playoff + TFS Coppa final week. This will be a Serie A ONLY vote.

Nominations can be made in this thread. We will not vote until ALL nominations have been received, so please get them to us in a timely manner. I'd like to have all the nominations by the end of the last regular season matchweek. A short write-up stating why you think your player should get the award would be a big help for us to make a decision on finalists.

Sweet feature. Aside from the game resulting in a draw, this really makes me wish I could have converted on one (or all) of my three clean breakaways with Zamora last night..... or the penalty that was saved. Dammit.

    Name: Darren Ashley Bent
    Position: FW
    Height: 5'11''
    Hobbies: Scoring Goals for fun
Why should Bent get your vote?
With Darren Bent, the Villans seem to be in a two-horse race with Spartak Moscow for the title. As in other sports, MVPs are usually given to a player on a team that is doing reasonably well, which Aston Villa have done this year. Bent has 13 goals (give him the 1 extra on the stat sheet RedAL925) which is a goal away from the league leader Fernandinho of Sao Paulo, having played 1 game less than the Brazilian at the point of writing. In addition to scoring, Bent has dished out the assists too, with 6 to his name so far, so of the 29 total goals credited to Aston Villa, Darren Bent has had a hand in 19 of them, roughly 65%. No other player comes close to this percentage, with Emenike of Spartak (11 goals + 6 assists = 47%) and Luis Fabiano of Sao Paulo (11 goals + 5 assists = 50%) being the only players coming close.
    Oh wait there is more....
In 16 games played so far, Bent has either scored or provided an assist in 12 of those games (with the 1-0 win against Spartak coming via an own goal and the 6-0 drubbing by Bremen, along with 1-0 wins against Bilbao and Schalke being the exceptions). What does that mean gentlemen? Just that so far, Bent has had a direct impact on a goal being scored in 75% of Aston Villa's games in the league.
Vote for Darren Bent as YOUR Serie A MVP for Season 1!!!

    Name: Tim Matavz
    Position: ST
    Height: 6' 2''
    Age: 22
    Nationality: Slovenia

Why should Matavz get your vote?

The young Slovenian has made major inroads on this PSV Eindhoven side. Playing at the top of a 4-3-3 formation, Matavz has not only chipped in goals (6 on the season), but he's also been able to create 6 assists. That is an impressive number for a poaching target forward. While there are certainly candidates in Serie A with much more impressive statistics, there is no denying that Tim Matavz was the most valuable player for PSV this roller coaster of a season.

    NAME: Tim Howard
    POSITION: Goalkeeper
    Everton FC
    Nationality: American
Why Vote Tim Howard for Serie A MVP?
Tim Howard has had an excellent Season, compiling Seven clean sheets with four more games to go. In a very Offensive minded league Tim Howard has allowed the newly promoted Everton Squad a shot at a top four finish. Anchoring an Everton Defense that has only allowed 21 goals in 17 matches- seven of which came at the hands of League Leaders Spartak Moscow, Everton has been involved in every single match down to the last few minutes.
Vote American! No one else will....

    Emmanuel Emenike - Spartak Moscow
Emenike has been a pleasant surprise for Spartak as coach shiftee thought Welliton would be the main man in the attack. While Welliton has netted his share of goals (league leading 16 as of this post), Emenike finds himself only 3 shy of the lead league with 13 goals. The biggest surprise of Emenike's season so far is that while he is pushing for the lead league in goals, he is also only 3 shy of the lead league in assists with 10.

    CB NALDO - WERDER BREMEN

Naldo was the lead man for the Werder Bremen defense, and is one of the highest-rated defenders in Serie A. Werder Bremen allowed the 2nd least goals per game (and soon to be 1st, once Spartak allows some goals Villa!), and while GK Tim Wiese had his share of stops, Naldo consistently put attackers in poor positions. Naldo won many man of the match awards, often leading the team in tackles. Without him in the backline, Werder Bremen's season would have been much worse, and their Coppa run would have ended much sooner (he was the highest rated outfield player in the Final). Oh, and he's Brazilian, and we all know that the best players are from Brazil. So the MVP here is obvious. Vote Naldo!

Not anymore. I would have argued for Zamora a few weeks ago, but he hasn't done anything since. 11 goals and 3 assists isn't gonna cut it.

My team is happy where they finished. Lots of room for improvement. They look to have a strong MVP candidate next season.

If you guys don't want to nominate anyone that's fine, but the premise of this was for everyone to nominate someone from their team (a team MVP, if you will), then we'd select the top X and let everyone vote for the league MVP. Wouldn't hurt to put a name in the hat, but again, it's your decision.

Ajax voted as a team and elected Manir El Hamdaoui as team MVP. El Hamdaoui scored the first ever hat trick for owner IJGator. He scored with flair, power, and from distance. He definitely brought a sense of excitement to this squad. At one point during the season, El Hamdaoui was in the top 4 scorers in the entire league. Congrats!!

Bobby Zamora WAS the Fulham offense this season. Zamora finished with only 11 goals and 3 assists, but his scoring resulted with Fulham playing well. Zamora scored in 5 of Fulham's 8 wins as well as 3 of their 4 draws. In fact, Zamora scored only twice in Fulham's 9 losses. He wasn't as dominant as some of the other players submitted, but he is clearly the most valuable player to this team and it's success.

ONLY Serie A members are allowed to vote in this poll. When you cast your vote, please respond to this thread with 'voted,' you don't have to state who you voted for if you don't want to.

The ballots have been cast, and your three Serie A MVP nominees are:

    Darren Bent - Aston Villa
League-leading 20 goals in Serie A to go along with 6 assists. Led team to 2nd-place finish.

    Emmanuel Emenike - Spartak Moscow
18 goals, 10 assists on the season. Had hat trick in Serie A title-clinching match vs Aston Villa.

    Jonathan Pitroipa - Stade Rennes
9 goals, 11 assist on the season. Guided Rennes clear of the drop zone in their first top-flight season.

Tim Howard finished 4th in preliminary voting, followed by [Sao Paulo], Tim Matavz and Naldo.
