PSV EINDHOVEN HIRE FORMER LILLE MANAGER
PSV Eindhoven have hired former Lille manager RedAL to the same position for the upcoming TFS season. Board members were very happy to have grabbed such a high-profile name to manage the stories Dutch club ahead of the new season, saying that he "fits our culture and style of play extremely well." According to reports, negotiations went smoothly after convincing the new boss to leave his private yacht in the Mediterranean for contract negotiations. "At the end of the day, it is a perfect match," said RedAL. "I will do with this team what I failed to do at Lille, and that is win a championship."

PSV EINDHOVEN SEASON PREVIEW
PLAYER TO WATCH: LW #14 Dries Mertens
The Belgian wunderkind, much like his compatriot Eden Hazard, will be the focal point of the PSV attack this season. Stationed on the left wing, look for Mertens to cut inside and link up with midfield duo of Georginio Wijnaldum and Ola Toivonen to form the attack. But be careful not to cheat him inside, as his darting runs and quick feet will surely torment opposing right backs all season. Rumor has it his connection with Hazard brought manger RedAL to Eindhoven this offseason.

PSV OPEN SEASON WITH HOME VICTORY
PSV opened the TFS season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham. Jeremain Lens broke the deadlock 2 minutes before halftime after a deadly pass from Tim Matavz sprung the speedy winger in on goal. Lens made no mistake about it, smashing the shot past Mark Schwarzer for the eventual game-winner. PSV did well to defend in the last quarter hour of the contest, fending off multiple attacks by the Cottagers to preserve the clean sheet for P. Tyton.
With the victory, PSV can now look ahead to their next contest against Aston Villa, who have already secured 3 points on the season.

MATCHDAY 1: 10.12.11PSV STRUGGLE IN ENGLAND
PSV were beaten by Aston Villa this afternoon by a 3-1 scoreline. Darren Bent struck first, making quick work of the PSV backline. Ola Toivonen did well to respond 15 minutes later to level the score with a well-taken volley from a Jeremain Lens cross. Despite one flurry of action by the Dutch squad, Aston Villa looked likely to get the 3 points all match long. Nathan Delfouneso put the home side ahead in the 78', and a Bent penalty kick sealed the win for Villa. PSV will have to do better if they want to make a title challenge this season, as it is evident the team is going through some growing pains adjusting to their new manager.

PSV SLIDE CONTINUES; MANAGER WORRIED
PSV Eindhoven continued their struggling start with a 3-0 loss in Portugal to SC Braga. An early goal by Alan set the tone for the match, in which Braga managed to keep possession away from PSV, while stifling the wing play of D. Mertens and J. Lens. Lima added two goals to add insult to injury and close Matchweek 1 for the Dutch squad.
After the match, PSV manager RedAL voiced his frustration and concern to the media. "We have not played well, that is for sure," he said. "We cannot seem to generate any sort of attack, opposing defenses are keying on our wingers and that is shutting down any kind of offense we have. Our defense has been porous as well. It is not a good combination." After 3 points out of a possible 9 this Matchweek, RedAL is not confident in his teams chances of staying in TFS A. "We need to turn it around, and fast. Otherwise we will be fighting the relegation battle this season."

MANAGER UNHAPPY WITH RECENT FORM
PSV Eindhoven manager RedAL has expressed his discontent with his club's start to the TFS A season, saying it is an utter disgrace and not reflective of his team's talent. "We have 6 points out of 5 matches so far, and a -3 goal differential. This is not the record of a championship team," said the manager in his weekly press conference. "We have yet to play a match in the [TFS] Coppa, and at this rate, I doubt we will even make it out of the group stage. We need to play better, and we need to do so quickly." Manager RedAL did admit that his side played a complete game against Dutch rivals Ajax, but to follow that performance with a 1-0 loss to SC Braga was not a good omen for the club. "If we could string together a couple of wins like what we did [vs Ajax], maybe we could get on a roll and move up the table. Right now something needs to be done, that is all I can say."
The media has speculated that maybe the problem lies in how his team have been playing their football. It is common knowledge that at his former club, LOSC Lille, wing play was the fulcrum of the team's attack, with skilled wingers Eden Hazard and Gervinho leading the charge. At PSV, however, those same wingers may not be up to the caliber of those in France. That means the threatening wing play that was so iconic at Lille will not work at his new club, and a change in philosophy is needed.
TFS GROUP MATCH 1: 10.23.11
PSV FALL IN TURKEY
PSV Eindhoven could not find the back of the net against Galatasaray in Match 1 of the TFS Coppa, putting the dutch side in a precarious position. Despite managing to control the game for much of the first half, PSV were unable to register a goal. Galatasaray did well to strike on the conter-attack to keep the Dutch honest, and it paid off in the 77' when Felipe Melo scraped out a goal. PSV threatened late, but could not capitalize.
The loss puts PSV in danger of failing to advance out of the group stage. Their next match against Serie A side Stade Rennes becomes a must-win game, with the winner taking poll position to finish top of the group. Three points against struggling Stoke City is assumed, but one cannot be too sure given the recent form of the club.

TFS GROUP MATCH 2: 10.25.11PSV SHUT OUT AGAIN, CUP DREAMS ALL BUT SMASHED
PSV Eindhoven were all but eliminated yesterday when they were defeated by Stade Rennes 1-0. With two 1-0 losses and no points in the standings, PSV will need nothing short of a miracle to advance. The hosts were dangerous on the counter-attack, but it was a second half corner kick off the head of K. Mangane that sunk the Dutch. In a last-gasp effort, J. Lens' shot rang off the crossbar and went straight down, but bounced away from goal instead of into it. With that, PSV will need to defeat Stoke City by a large margin, and have the other results go their way in order to advance.

MATCHWEEK IN REVIEW: 10.26.11
PSV REEL OFF THREE 2-1 WINS OVER TOUGH COMPETITION
PSV seem to have found their better form under new manager RedAL, who has guided his team to 3 consecutive wins, all by a 2-1 scoreline. The first came against struggling Werder Bremen. PSV took the initiative early before conceding a late goal to make the last 8' tense, but the team hung on for momentum-changing win.
The Dutch side traveled to France next to face Stade Rennes, where they fell behind early on a J. Pitroipa goal. But two minutes later, T. Matavz answered with a goal of his own, and K. Strootman bagged the game-winner off a broken set piece. It was an important morale booster for the team's next test against Spartak Moscow.
The match against Spartak Moscow was the hot ticket in Eindhoven for some time now, and the fans were not disappointed. Just 12' into the game, Spartak won themselves a penalty kick, and Welliton stepped up to take it. He went left, and P. Tyton guessed correctly, making a huge save to keep the game in reach for PSV. But 15 minutes later, Welliton won another penalty, this time going right and beating P. Tyton for the opening goal. Down early once again, PSV responded quickly through J. Lens, who's shot beat the keeper to tie the score going into the second half.
The difference in the game came on the hallmark of manager RedAL's style. Dries Mertens, who had yet to make any impact this season, burst down the left flank, drove past his defender, and scorched a shot into the far bottom corner for the go-ahead goal. The fans erupted at the sight of their best player's first goal, and from then on PSV defended well to preserve the three points. The game could not have been more even, with a near 50-50 possession number and equal number of shots.
TFS COPPA GROUP MATCH 3: 11.12.11DISAPPOINTING CUP RUN ENDS IN DRAW PSV Eindhoven bowed out of the TFS Coppa with a 1-1 draw with Stoke City. PSV put out a largely reserve squad for the match, having already been eliminated following Stoke's win over Galatasaray. The reserves showed well, with R. Bentancourt heading home the game's first goal off a saved effort from Dries Mertens. Stoke did not register a shot in the first half, but threatened on the counter-attack. In the second half, the Potters broke on a counter and forced a good save out of A. Isaksson. On the ensuing corner, Peter Crouch towered over his mark and leveled the score. Stoke made attacking changes in the second half, but they could not break down the PSV defense, and the game ended level. The result was not enough for Stoke, who needed 3 points to advance. Group E will send Stade Rennes and Galatasaray to the Round of 16. ------------------------------ Match Summary:PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Stoke City22 (12) Shots (SOT) 3 (1)

MIDSEASON REPORT: PSV Eindhoven
PSV captain Ola Toivonen
Following the appointment of former LOSC Lille manager RedAL to the same position at PSV, the Dutch side struggled to adapt to their new manager's style of play, losing 3 of their first 4 league games. A 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen in Matchday 5 seemed to ignite PSV, who have now won 7 of their last 8 league matches, with the only loss coming against Aston Villa. The run in form has pushed PSV up to 3rd in the Serie A table, and while it is unlikely that they will be able to track down Spartak Moscow and Aston Villa, another top-4 finish is not out of the question.
PSV Eindhoven captain Ola Toivonen has stepped up his game, scoring 6 goals on the year, with 4 in the last 3 games for the club. Young Slovenian Tim Matavz has chipped in 6 assists from the ST position, leading the club in that category. Lately the form of both CBs, Marcelo and Wilfred Bouma has been stellar, helping PSV to their recent win streak.
Things have not been all good this season, however. The Dutch squad was expected to cruise into the knockout stage of the TFS Coppa, but instead finished the group stage winless and in 4th place. Serie A side Stade Rennes and Serie C side Galatasaray were both able to defeat PSV 1-0, and with a slim hope of advancing on the last day of the group phase, PSV could only manage a 1-1 draw against lowly (but much improved) Stoke City of Serie B.

TIM MATAVZ NAMED PSV's MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Tim Matavz has been named PSV Eindhoven's most valuable player this season. The young Slovenian is 2nd on the team with 6 goals, and leads the team with 6 assists. Playing at the top of the 4-3-3, Matavz has been the key cog in PSV's attack. After struggling early to adapt to their new manager's style of play, Matavz settled well into his new role. Ola Toivonen was second in voting, followed by GK P. Tyton.
Matavz will now be entered into the Serie A MVP pool, where he will hope to be selected as one of 5 finalists up for the prestigious award.

PSV's SEASON SPUTTERS SHORT OF SUCCESS
PSV Eindhoven's roller coaster season ended this afternoon after their 4th consecutive draw against mid-table teams. After a slow start to the season, PSV managed to pull themselves up the league table and were at one point sitting in 2nd place. But late-season struggles, as was the case last season in Lille, doomed manager RedAL, as his side drew at home with Ajax and Everton, and away to FC Schalke 04 and Fulham. The Dutch side are currently in 3rd place, but could fall as far as 6th in the table.
"Well it wasn't the start to my career here that I would have liked, but we showed great resiliency after a slow start, so we should be proud of that," said manager RedAL after the match. "There were some very bright spots to the season, especially [Tim] Matavz, who played well for us. But it wasn't all good. We wish we had shown better in the TFS Coppa, and our play down the stretch was not our best."
"Next season we will hope to advance out of the group stage of the Coppa, and once again aim for a top-3 finish in the league. We must be careful, though, as we have seen from Werder Bremen, the teams coming up from Serie B are no pushovers. We must play better through the entire season to maintain our top-flight status."

PSV ANNOUNCE VENNEGOOR OF HESSELINK SIGNING
Eindhoven, Holland - PSV Eindhoven today announced the signing of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, fortifying the reserve bench further for the upcoming season. "Jan is a veteran player that will add experience to the bench behind Tim [Matavz]," said manager RedAL at a press conference. "We hope that in addition to giving [Tim] a break, Jan will also help in the maturation process. He will definitely play a part in our upcoming season."
Meanwhile, PSV are hoping they are not poached during the January transfer window. Rumors are swirling around LB Erick Pieters, who has suitors from the Premier League. "We hope to keep our squad intact, but we have adequate depth to cover any losses."

WANT-AWAY PSV MANAGER EYES LILLE RETURN?
New rumors are swirling around current PSV Eindhoven manager RedAL, who has his eyes on a return to France. Despite relative success in the Netherlands, RedAL is rumored to be eyeing a return to former club LOSC Lille, who may lose star Eden Hazard to a bigger club. If that were to happen, the Lille post may open, and sources say it would be hard for RedAL to turn down the job, if offered.

PSV MANAGER RETURNS FROM WORLD CUP
PSV manager RedAL returned from the World Cup competition after seeing his Netherlands side crash out in the semifinals against France. Despite the loss, RedAL seemed pleased to return to his club ahead of the start of TFS A play. "We had a good run in the World Cup, but it is now time to focus on the Serie A campaign. We would like to finish top 3 this season after having slipped to 5th in recent years. We will need to be focused every game, as the competition continues to get tougher with newly promoted teams coming up."
- Rumors have cooled over LB Erick Pieters, who is set to stay at PSV despite heavy interest from Newcastle.
- 32-year-old CM Orlando Engelaar, having fallen down the pecking order, will be allowed to leave if he chooses.
- Andreas Pereira has confirmed he will be joining Manchester United. The 15-year-old prodigy will leave the club in the coming days.
- Kevin Strootman has been linked with Liverpool and Inter Milan, but the player is under contract at PSV until 2016.

PSV EINDHOVEN HANDED DREAM DRAW IN COPPA
PSV Eindhoven were drawn with Derby County, Palermo and SC Braga in what is being dubbed as the 'Group of Life' in the TFS Coppa. PSV are the clear favorites in a group that includes a two relegation battlers (Braga and Palermo) and a Serie C new to the league. While pundits continue to predict PSV will finish top of the group, manager RedAL is quick to remind them of the debacle in last season's Coppa. "We did not make it out of the group stage last season, and we finished last in the group to boot," said the manager is his weekly press conference. "While we are happy with the draw we have been handed, we still need to perform in the group stage to advance in the Coppa." The winner of Group H will face off against the Group G runner-up. Group G includes Rubin Kazan, Hamburger SV, Parma, and rivals Ajax.
1.28.12: BREAKING NEWS
Speculation is running rampant in Eindhoven, where media reports indicate current manager RedAL is unhappy with his current situation, and yearns for a return to France. After former club Lille completed the transfer of striker Moussa Sow to Fenerbahce, there is a chance that the northern French club could become eligible for TFS play in the near future. PSV have struggled in recent weeks, failing to register a win in its last 5 league games, adding fuel to the rumor fire.
