REMINDER: once you have clinched a place in the World Cup group stage, you will need to submit your 23-man roster. I will put up a thread at the end of the week with explicit instructions. YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY UNTIL YOUR ROSTER HAS BEEN SUBMITTED.
For qualification, ties in any group where a World Cup spot is on the line will result in a tiebreaker match to be played. Tables will follow the Coppa tiebreaking procedures to determine home/away. The Coppa tiebreakers are as follows:
(6a and 6b won't apply here)
Again, this is to determine group seeding only, not to determine who advances or doesn't advance to the World Cup. While this would then just determine home/away in the tiebreaker match for a 2-team tie, a 3-team tie would need this structure to rank the 3 teams. In the case of a 3-way tie, matches will be played in an order to eliminate teams from the tiebreaker. For example, if 1st-2nd-3rd are all tied on points, then after they are seeded 1-2-3 according to the above tiebreak rules, 1st would play 2nd to determine one spot, and then the loser would play 3rd to determine the second spot. If the 3-way tie was 2nd-3rd-4th, then 3rd would play 4th to eliminate one team, and the winner would play 2nd to determine a WC spot.
For the actual World Cup Finals groups, there will not be tiebreaker matches. Ties there would be broken up by standard Coppa tiebreaking procedures (H2H, GD, GF).
Couple of other notes...
Re: WCQ Tiebreaker matches & draws in the WC knockout stage
If a qualification group requires a tiebreaker match, it will be a 1-leg match. If tied after 90 minutes, the game will go straight to a golden goal match, where teams must begin the golden goal match with the same lineup they ended with after 90 minutes! Failure to do so may void a golden goal!!! If there is a draw in the kockout stage of the World Cup, it will follow the same format (going straight to a golden goal match after the first 90 mins). In other words, this is not like the Coppa where you would go on to play a full 2nd leg.
Re: World Cup group stage draw
There will be no seeding in the WC group stage draw (i.e. Qualification group winners aren't "seeded" above runner-ups). The only provision that will be applied to the WC group stage draw is that every group must contain 2 teams from the Europe region, 1 from the Americas, and 1 from Africa/Asia/misfits.
