In a battle between real life and Buckeye Cup foes wSeals9 and The Ivory Coast was able to hold off a gritty Belgium team lead by ASinghal31 to secure a place in the TFS World Cup semifinals. Wilfried Bony pushed his goal tally up to 6 goals and is again tied with Clinton N'Jie for the Golden Boot lead.

    Recap:
The first goal came from an unfortunate own goal after
Gervinho sent in a low cross from the wing aimed for Wilfried Bony. Vincent Kompany was able to cut off the pass before reaching Bony but couldn't control it and put it past Thibaut Courtois to open up the scoring in this quarterfinal fixture. Twenty two minutes later, Wilfried Bony rose in between Vincent Kompany and Jan Vertonghen for a header to put his team up 2-0. The Ivorians continued to test Courtois but the keeper shut down every attempt to help keep his Belgium side in the match. In the second half, Kevin De Bruyne pulled one back for Belgium after a delicious ball from Christian Benteke. Minutes later, De Bruyne almost equalized and made things interesting after a deflection fell to him in the box in space but his shot hit the post and away from danger. The Ivory Coast was able to hang on to the 2-1 victory and now await the winner of Australia and Italy in the semifinals.

B Pool winner Cameroon hosted Group A Runner Up Czech in this first round of Knockout Stage play and it didn't disappoint. Cameroon had a few opportunities early during the match but couldn't capitalize while a foul deep in their half of the pitch setup Rosicky and a beautiful FK with some lucky spin off the post netted the Czech's up 1-0. Rosicky found the back of the net again off of a throw in where he was able to hold off a defender setup the defense and put it past the keeper for a two nil lead. And then again Rosicky would find a run through after Plasil dribbled through the defense, with a drop off to Tom, he struck for a three nothing lead. Cameroon threatened early and often during the second half but they were unable to break Cech until after the 80th minute where they would slip in two quick ones and have a chance to force another two halves of ET, but they were unable to do so and the Czechs move on.

In a heated battle between one of the elite players and the "best rated" team remaining, Gli Azzurri advanced to the semi finals against wSeals9 and the Ivory Coast. It was a defensive battle all game, with the Aussies trying desperately to break the Italians defense. They took a lot of shots, but for most of them, a save wasn't even needed. When the saves were needed, Sirigu was up to the task, turning away every Aussie opportunity. A scoreless 90+' forced the teams to go to a Golden Goal. Super sub Giovinco pressured the Australian defense and chipped in a pass to Candreva, who tried to put the ball in front of the goal for his teammates, but the Australian backer knocked it back towards the keeper. The Aussie keeper wasn't expecting the ball, and in a rare case of nerves, bobbled the ball out of bounds, leading to the corner that won the game for Gli Azzurri. There was some controversy over it being an OG or a header by Cerci, but in the end, the only thing that mattered was that the goal counted and the Italians continued to surprise the TFS community by refusing to falter. They continue to win with a full emphasis on defense and the ability to get a goal or two when it matters most.

The last matchup in the TFS World Cup Quarterfinals saw Egypt hosting Wales for a spot in the semifinals against Czech Republic. Wales started the game out strong, with Bale somehow missing a point blank header wide the goal beckoning. Egypt would get the first goal against the run of play, as Salah controlled the ball near the halfway line and turned towards goal - and after realizing he had a clear path towards the Wales' keeper would use his superior speed to get into a one-on-one situation, before seemingly fluffing his lines with a weak shot, but one that was good enough as it would hit the inside of Hennessy's leg and trickle in to the goal. As halftime approached, a game that was close suddenly broke wide open as Salah would score two in a span of 4 minutes. 3-0 at the half and with the "home" captain bagging a hattrick, the fans just couldn't believe what was happening!

The second half was even, with both teams having quality chances at scoring. With the game nearing its end Joe Allen would finally end the Egyptian keeper's clean sheet hopes as he received a pass near the edge of the box and was able to shimmy and dribble himself towards a shot inside the 6 yard box that got the best of the keeper. There was still just enough time for Salah to score his 4th of the game, as his individual run got the best of the Welsh defense before he was able to power a shot near-side, giving Hennessy little chance of saving it. 4-1 and as the final whistle blew the team rejoiced at reaching their first goal, the semifinals of the World Cup. Will the minnows be able to keep dreaming? The Czechs stand in their way of a historic final.

Seydou Doumbia has been quiet all tournament. The CSKA & Roma star had only registered 0 goals and 1 assist up until this point in the knockout round. He made sure that his presence was felt in this game by scoring a hat trick to claim Ivory Coast's place in the finals. His first goal (a goal of the tournament nomination) was placed perfectly into the upper right corner of the goal from distance. His second goal came via a wonderful clip over the defense from Wilfried Bony and Doumbia calmly placed it in the back of the net. Italy drew close with a penalty kick in the 55th minute from Antonio Candreva. Doumbia scored his final goal in the 87th minute after Gervinho found Doumbia making a run into the box and Doumbia was able to make a move away from the defender and place it past Sirigu to put the game away.

    The
Ivory Coast head into the finals as a dynamic bunch who have gotten contributions all over the field from key players including Wilfried Bony, Gervinho, Yaya Touré, Max-Alain Gradel and now Seydou Doumbia. The Ivorians hope are eager for the final and hop they have one more win under their belt.

Czech led by Knight came in as a slight underdog going up against the declared most decorated veteran of TFS, Zikry and his Egyptian squad. Egypt came out of the gates with some pressure applied and the Czech's were able to get a counter with a few players touching the ball eventually setting up Plasil to score off of a Rosicky assist. Ten minutes later, Lafata was threatening and then the ball decided to play ping pong along with the lag it eventually found itself sitting still just wide left of the PK spot as Lafata raced towards and ripped a shot past the keeper for a Czech lead of two nil. The third goal came off a corner where Rosicky sent it into the box, the keeper whiffed on the punch as Lafata almost headed the ball too hard but it dropped just below the crossbar for a three nil score. Czech knew the Pharaohs would amp up the pressure and intensity to try and get back into the game and tried to take the second half in 5-10 minute increments, something that eventually worked out but the sweat was definitely coming out profusely.

Czech Republic will move onto the Finals to face Ivory Coast, a foe that is familiar due to Group A play.

In the bronze medal game it was the North Africans who would emerge victorious and claim the medal-place in the inaugural TFS World Cup. The game was bogged down in the middle for the most part as both defenses stood tall against the opposing attack. Other than a first half Ahmed Hassan shot that clanged off the post, the Egyptian attack was stifled by the 5 man Italian backline. It took until the final minute of the game for the match to finally see a breakthrough as Salah, a strong favorite for player of the tournament, was able to find some space on the right side and run past a couple Italian defenders before hitting a shot that got through Sirigu. With little time left Italy was unable to muster up a serious chance to respond to the goal as the referee blew his final whistle and the Egyptian team celebrated their bronze medal win!

Ivory Coast displayed an early blitz and the Czechs countered with a strike that was blocked by Copa but fell right in the path of Lafata who put the Republic up one nil in the early stages at eight minute mark. What looked like to be quiet first half but a loose ball floated into the IC midfield and what appeared to be a touch by Lafata turned out during instant replay a swipe off a pass from an Ivory player. Lafata ended up taking it against defenders and scoring near post to give the Czech's a two nil lead.

Ivory Coast had several good runs that could have put a score on the board along with the Republic chances, this game was teetering from the first goal. Doumbia would find some room after a chip pass from Tiote (FIFA didn't recognize it as an assist but led to the goal), and he did what Doumbia does, which is finish. Ivory had a few more opportunities to draw even and force Extra Time and CR had some moments where they could have opened it up and felt more comfortable.

It was by my account and Frenchie1916 an exciting way to end the FIFA 15 release as we wait for FIFA 16.
