Switzerland won the first leg vs Germany 4-0, but Deutschland made it much more difficult this time around, as both sides found plenty of opportunities but somehow went scoreless for 77 minutes. Finally, in the 78th minute, Valentin Stocker found Breel Embolo streaking past the defense who, after fighting off the last defender, slotted a shot into the bottom corner of the net to give the Swiss a 1-0 lead. 9 minutes later, Xherdan Shaqiri received a pass in the middle of the box and laid it off to Embolo, who found himself alone in the box before curling it into the upper 90 for a 2-0 lead.

The Embolo brace puts Switzerland at 9 points in their qualification campaign. Their next match is an all-important one vs Denmark, which will most likely decide who will be the second team to advance from the group.

Pedro volleyed home a first half corner kick and dribbled his way to a brace in the second half as Spain defeated Poland 3-0 on the road.

Andres Iniesta scored his first goal of World Cup qualifying when a rebound fell right to his feet at the top of the Polish penalty area. The Spanish midfielder drove a hard shot high and right for a two goal lead at the break.

Spain has already qualified for the World Cup and the win sets up a crucial match with England to determine the group winner. The three Spanish goals improved the squad's goal differential in case the group comes down to a tie-breaker.

Super-sub Lazaros sends Greece to World Cup! After just 5 minutes on the field, the midfielder headed in what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Mitroglou would add a second at the end of the match while Ireland were stretched for an equalizer, sending the Greeks to the world's stage this summer.

Romania had already booked it's ticket to the World Cup in the last round of qualifying, but they showed no signs of wanting anything less than a group win in their 4 goal win over France. The loss eliminates France. The two teams from Group C are decided in Romania and Greece so the last match week of qualifying means nothing other than a battle for pride.

Greece finish their qualifying campaign with comprehensive 2-0 win at the Parc de Princes. Mitroglou and Lazaros were once again the scorers, as the Greeks now begin preparations for the World Cup this summer, and await the group stage draw.

Moutinho Sets Up Two Goals In 2-0 Portuguese Win
When Portugal and the Netherlands met previously, Portugal walked away with a 2-0 victory. It must have felt like deja vu for the Dutch tonight, as Ronaldo & friends replicated that scoreline, again winning 2-0. Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 39th minute when he found some space in the box, and Nani clinched the win with a goal of his own in the 85th minute. Joao Moutinho was the playmaker on both, racking 2 assists en route to a MOTM performance. "Moutinho was excellent today," said Coach Bronc. "Really the whole midfield performed excellently. They were instrumental in the build-up of our attacks, and they formed a brick wall on defense ahead of our backline." GK Anthony Lopes earned his first qualification start in net, and came up with some huge saves early on to keep the game scoreless. Bronc would not comment on the goalie situation, but certainly debates wil heat up as to whether Lopes or Patricio should be the one protecting the net for the Portuguese.

Portugal Complete Qualification Atop Group D
In the final European qualifier, Portugal and Austria battled for the top spot in the region's "Group of Death." Austria defeated Portugal in the first meeting between the two sides by a score of 3-2. In the 26th minute today, Junuzovic scored the opener for Austria, and it appeared early that the Austrians simply had Portugal's number. Portugal fought back though, and a brace from Quaresma gave Portugal the eventual 2-1 win. "We were fortunate to get the win, but we cannot expect positive results when we play like that," said Coach Bronc, unhappy with the quality of play from his team despite the win. Cristiano Ronaldo was stifled all game long by the Austrian defense, going his first qualifying match without a goal. But with the win, Portugal finished with the 2nd-highest point total among all European teams. "We had a strong qualification phase, and I expect this team to build on this strong start with a fantastic World Cup run," continued Coach Bronc. "I've certainly learned a lot about this team throughout qualifiers, which should give us a strong handle for whatever comes our way in the World Cup."
