For all league, team and manager-related content.
Frenchie, Crystal Palace renew tiesLondon - IN a move surprising absolutely nobody, Frenchie has jumped all over his extension clause and renewed his contract with Crystal Palace.
"I know it's early and I'm jumping the gun, but I don't even need to seen my squad on the training ground," Frenchie said. "With Bolasie, Puncheon, Zaha, Sako and Cabaye in my attack and midfield, plus Gayle and Chamakh and Yedinak and Wickham and Campbell ready to come on from the bench, this could actually be one of the deepest teams in the league."
Anchored at the back by Scott Dan, Damien Delaney, Joel Ward, Pape Souare, Martin Kelly and Brede Hangeland, the Eagles look to mount a serious attack on a game that has promised to require midfield buildup, rather than pure pace.
"I understand we lack a true out-and-out quality striker," Frenchie added. "But I'll pit my attacking midfield against any in the league. I've been in this position before: a wealth of tools at my disposal. This time, I have the confidence the results will be more favorable. We had a good run last season and, but for two or three draws and 1-goal losses, would have been in a running for the top. This year, we have one goal in mind, and we come into training with a singular focus."
In a shocking turn of events for Manager Calhockey when he announced his dislike for Sunderland and announced that would be the last season at the helm for the Black Cats has had a change of heart. News reports coming out today in the Sunderland Echo that Calhockey has comeback to manage the Black Cats after a dismal performance last season which saw them finish one spot out of the bottom three. With leading goal scorer Connor Wickham being transferred to Crystal Palace and no real replacement coming to the club they will have to rely heavily on defense and Jermaine Defoe. Tied with the leagues worst defense last year this could be a disastrous campaign ahead for Calhockey with relegation grumblings already surfacing around Sunderland surely hewill be on the hot seat. Calhockey knew if he went on the market for a new team he would probably end up with a lower quality team even though he would like to dive in and manage a MLS team for a season. However, he knows he would struggle mightly even though he recently had a huge 1-0 win in a preseason tournament with the Columbus Crew against America. If one thing is certain about this lineup it is that Sunderland will have the fastest LB and RB in TSL this coming season.
Sunderland Projected Lineup: (4 - 4 - 2 Diamond)
ST: Jermaine Defoe
ST: Jermaine Lens
CAM: Steven Fletcher
LM: Fabio Borini
RM: Adam Johnson
CDM: Lee Cattermole
LB: Patrick Van Aanholt
CB: Younes Kaboul
CB: Sebastian Coates
RB: Deandre Yedlini
GK: Costel Pantilimon
My favorite part of this is that you used the real name of the local paper.
Sao Paulo, Brazil (AP): The fans of Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras have a lot to be excited about. Not only are they making their return to TSL after 14 seasons away, last appearing in TSL B in season 3, they are doing it with one of the most accomplished managers in the league's history. CMac signed a 1 season contract with the Brazilian giants late Tuesday night that has the people of Sao Paulo flooding the streets in excitement. Fresh off a TSL A title last season, Cmac hopes to bring the same type of success to Palmeiras as they make their debut in the top flight of TSL. The club's great history was a huge selling point to the new manager. "The history, the crest, the kits, and the fans are all legendary in the soccer world. Saying I'm excited to become a part of it all would be an understatement," Cmac said in a phone interview. "I'm glad Ican bring the excitement and drama of top flight TSL soccer to the fans of this historic club."
The team will be one of the preseason favorites to contend for an A title. Expectations will be incredibly high. There is, however, a reason the optimism should be met with some caution. There were title expectations in Cmac's first run in Brazil as the manager of Flamengo in season 5. Not only did he fall short of those expectations with a 3rd place finish, he also bolted out of the country after just 1 season. While the excitement of top flight soccer coming to the fans is certainly justified, there should be fear that it could be ripped away after just one season as there is no commitment after that. Either way, it should be one hell of a ride for the fans for now.
The team boasts a horde of skilled dribblers. Anyone familiar with CMac's preferred style can certainly see why he chose to sign with the club. The team is deep and expected to use multiple formations throughout the campaign. The main attacking threats are the two young magicians who will likely occupy the left and right wings, Dudu and Kelvin. The lone center forward will be veteran Rafael Marques who is strong and always an aeriel threat. The midfield is occupied by the skilled dribbling combination of Fellype Gabriel and, the Captain, Cleiton Xavier. Those two are joined by the strong, defensive minded Arouca. There should be several players battling to win spots on the backline.
Expected XI (Subject to Change)
Manager RedAL Signs On With Sao Paulo
Sao Paulo - In a shocking turn of events, Manager RedAL has signed on at Sao Paulo for the upcoming Season 18 in the Tradition Soccer League (TSL). Their relationship is already off to a rocky start, as RedAL has publicly voiced his displeasure with the events leading up to his signature in Brazil. "We were prepared to sign in Italy, I don't think that's a secret to anyone," he said at his introductory press conference this morning. "Unfortunately things didn't go as planned there, so here I am."
Despite his generally sour attitude, Manager RedAL did vow his commitment to his new club. "What's past is past. We now look ahead to the next season, and getting back to the 1st division," he said. When asked about his goals for the season, RedAL did not hesitate in his response. "We need to be in the top 2 at the end of the season. Anything short of that will be a failure."
Of course this is Manager RedAL's first season in the 2nd division, having spent 17 straight seasons in the top flight. His subsequent relegation after a series of playoff losses at Sporting Lisbon has the city of Sao Paulo on edge...or at least half the city, as local rivals Palmeiras signed a big-name manager for the season, only adding to the misery for the Tricolor.
The negativity surrounding the club at present can be turned around with a strong opening to Season 18. Led by Alexandre Pato, Luis Fabiano and Michel Bastos, Sao Paulo boast a potent offense waiting to explode. If Manager RedAL expect to vie for promotion this season, his hopes lie squarely on his ability to score goals, something that hasn't been a strength for the veteran manager.
Lou Returns for More
Saint Etienne fans all breathed a sigh of relief this week when they found out that their Manager would return for 1 more season. Initially, it was expected that Lou would be leaving for greener pastures, but it seems the upstart manager believes he still could lead this rag tag bunch to victory! It probably didn’t hurt that Lou had such a nice run in the World Cup this past season, perhaps giving him a false sense of hope?!?!
Unfortunately for Les Verts, they no longer have their team MVP Max Alan Gradel or their solid wing back Tabanou. However, Benoit Assou-Ekotto will be a solid replacement on the back line, as he has proved quite valuable in friendlies. Bahebeck has had early growing pains during friendlies, but should eventually fall into form. Also, Diomande has looked great and may see time at CDM.
It’s going to be another uphill battle in A for Etienne, but they will fall back on their defense and hope that good team play can earn them some wins against tough opponents.
The Buckeye Cup returns for its second season for FIFA16. The Buckeye Cup is a collection of managers who either currently reside in Ohio or spent extensive time in Ohio.
A - Palmeiras - CxMacx10
A - Sampdoria - wSeals9
A - Hoffenheim - rschwep
B - Sunderland - Calhockey10
B - Lokomotiv - ASinghal31
B - Stade Rennais - abolishthefed
C - Ajax - KJLamb23
C - Stuttgart - Mark Siers
Going into the season, Buckeye Cup fans have a number of questions. Will CxMacx10 dominate the competition with Palmeiras or will the rest of the participants catch up? Will ASinghal31 dominate the amount of games played statistic again? Can rschwep finally break through against other A flight competition? Can either KJLamb23 or Mark Siers win C and move up to the B division? Have Calhockey10 and abolishthefed done enough in the offseason to stay out of the relegation zone in B? Tune in to find out. Games will be broadcast on Twitch and Youtube. The seasons starts on 10/7.
Genoa, Italy - After flirting with the possibility of a fourth team in his fourth season, Seals surprised the fans in Italy by signing a contract extension with Sampdoria for the upcoming season. The fans were delighted to see the manager return who lead the team to a top 4 finish in the former Serie A behind Shaktar Donetsk, PSV Eindhoven and Southampton. "We accomplished so much in our first season in the top-flight and I want to see if we can improve on that record going forward now that we have experienced the growing pains that we endured in the first season. The team has changed a little bit and some old faces will certainly be missed but the new boys have looked good in training. I'm excited to see how we can improve in this upcoming season in the Tradition Soccer League.
Samuel Eto'o - ST (To Antalyaspor) - Eto'o was the team MVP last season finishing with 16 goals and 7 assists. If Sampdoria want to remain a top 4 club and improve on their point total from last season, it is important that Seals finds someone to replace Eto'o's production in that central forward role.
Other notable departures: Pedro Obiang (To West Ham), Afriyie Acquah (To Torino), Stefano Okaka-Chuka (To RSC Anderlecht)
Fernando - CDM (From Shaktar Donetsk) - Fernando will be a key upgrade at the CDM position that was shaky in Seals' first season with Sampdoria. Look for Fernando to solidify Sampdoria's midfield this season. Thanks CxMacx10 !
Antonio Cassano - CF (From Parma) - Cassano returns to Sampdoria where he had a great spell for i Blucerchiati from 2007-2011. Will Seals be able to unlock this creative forward's talent in the attacking third?
Other notable signings: Niklas Moisander (From Ajax), Lazaros Christodoulopoulos (From Hellas Verona), Carlos Carbonero (From Fénix),
Sampdoria Projected XI (subject to change):
Stuttgart , Germany
Fever stays for a second tour!. Last season was a mild success ,but with the improvement of Coach
Fevers tactics the bar has been raised. although there were many rumors of he coach going to Argentina
he was given a chance to coach the german side again. With the departure of Ulreich and Rudiger the backline
has some holes. Also Striker Ibisevic was loaned out to Hertha Berlin. After a failed signing by Tottenham , Werner
remains on the team and will be used primaly on the flanks. Ginczek will remain the target man up front. While
Didavi and Maxim will be be the CAM's. Die will anchor the defense.
This season will be a big challange. I f Stuttgart can score goals they are confident they can hold the lead.
Although the loss of Ulreich will be inmeasurable. Coach Fever hopes to find the best formation and players
to get the job done. No matter what you can expept a battle to the end for every game
Inside Traditional Sports League A
reporting from Maui, Hawaii
The New Season has arrived in the "New" Look Traditional Soccer League - TSL! The dramatic change of the League is pronounced with gameplay, rules and even the name of the long standing league having been altered to coincide with the new gameplay of FIFA 16. It is a Season of change - with even the Top Table now just being called "League A" - but not all changes were with gameplay as key Managers in League A have finally been relegated out of the Top Competition as new blood Managers have stormed through- Managers RedAL925 and Broncos218 begin their Campaign in unfamiliar Territory- in League B and as favorites for the 2nd Tier Table's promotion. In their place are Managers BigBeansMcGee , guayo10 and dave okeeffe - enter League A with teeth and determination sporting some of the tougher squads and talented players in the whole TSL.
The Campaign still has their Top Managers intact with CxMacx10 taking over a very talented Palmeiras and Manager Zikry content with his reloaded PSV Eidenhoven squad. It looks to be an open campaign for 3rd to 13th in League A- but the buzz this Season..
".. it's a two horse race now than it ever was for the Championship...a few dark horses but really, its Zikry or CxMac to Win..."
League A Manager
League A sports 8 new Squads from the 13 teams in the Table- with 3 new Managers its a new look Table a dramatic change from Season 17 .
League A Preview
West Bromwich Albion FC
Manager Beshiktas always seems to land on his feet with these talented squads- after a scandal at Beshiktas forced the long time Turkish Manager out of Turkish club- the talented manager signed on with West Brom Albion FC. One of the strongest 4 Star squads out there- an overall ranking of 76 with a deadly 77 Attack. The Baggies pose an awesome threat going forward with an array of Strikers at their disposal- 80 ST Rondon and 76 ST Berhino provide speed and flair while 75 ST Lambert and 73 ST Anichebe provide some power and aerial prowess. The Midfield can get loaded with 77 CAM Sessegnon and experience 75 RCM D. Fletcher with 78 CDM Yacob providing some Defensive backbone for the Midfield. Defensively- 77 CB Olsson and 78 J. Evans can adequately provide cover for a coveted goal keeper slot- with 77 GK Lindegaard battling it out with 79 GK Foster. Overall one of the more balanced and talented squads in League A this campaign. The new rules and gameplay has the Baggies looking to make some waves this Campaign a likely top 4 finish is possible with WBA- and maybe if fixtures go well an outside shot at their first Championship.
What a tremendous undertaking for this Newly promoted Manager as he debuts in League A with his home town squad. Everyone's "David" favorite as he battles it out with the League A giants. League One Coventry City has their work cut out for them- as the 64 overall rated squad is the lowest ranking Team in the whole TSL- Manager BigBeansMcGee has chosen to go with his Heart and in the process may have already consigned himself to relegation. Historically League A has not been kind to newly promoted Managers- 72 RB Ricketts and 71 CB R. Johnson are the lone League A quality players on this squad- with the rest looking a bit outclassed- Coventry City will need to be patient and disciplined to take points in this Campaign- but with the new gameplay and rules- maybe the Sky Blues can shed its sheep clothing and prove to be a Wolf within the Table- the numbers says No and Relegation is the likely result of this inaugural Campaign, but kudos the Manager BigBeansMcGee for claiming his Hometown squad. Good Luck Sky Blues!
Palmeiras is tapped to challenge for a Championship this Campaign- as the new rules and gameplay of FIFA 16 has Manager CxMacx10 looking sharp and ready to play. Palmeiras boasts arguably the most talented attack in League A- with 9 potential starting 11 at 76 or above - all Brazilians and all with the ability to take any defense off the dribble. Listing the talent on this squad would be long - anchoring the Defense is 78 GK Fernando Prass with 76 CDM Gabriel and 77 CDM Arouca covering a weak backline. After that a selection of Brazilian Midfielders and Attackers ranking between 76 and 77 fills up the squad- a nightmare for any Defense as some sport speed such as 77 LW Dudu who has 82 pace or 76 CAM Robinho with an 80 pace . The others can beat with skill 77 CAM Gabriel plans to weave through the Defense with his 79 dribbling- or CM Roberto, Robinho can wreck havoc with their dribbling abilities as well. Overall this is a dangerous squad an upgrade from his Championship Shaktar Donetsk- look for Palmeira's to easily run the Table this Season with PSV Eidenhoven providing some challenge- its is the Era of the Dancing Brazilians in TSL - Palmeiras ushers in a new age of Gameplay in League A & look for the Brazilians to Samba their way to the Top.
Manager dave okeeffe
Celta Vigo is the Strongest Squad in League A this Campaign- with an overall rating of 76 and a 78 Attack, 76 Mid and 75 Defense with a 76 GK Sergio the weakest link in the puzzle. Defensively the Spanish side can field a back line with 77 RB Jonny : 78 LB Hugo Mallo bookending 77 CB Cabral & 77 Fontas- a fortress around the GK. Secure with 77 CDM Radoja and it lock down final third- but that is not the scary part for Celta Vigo as their best player 82 LW Nolito is supported by 79 RCM Hernandez - overall this squad can field a starting 10 with 77 or above rating- as the GK being only 76. This is a 4.5 Star squad wallowing in the 4 star kids pool... Whether or not Manager dave okeeffe can maximize his good fortune in League A we have to wait and see- but on talent alone this Team should give this Manager a leg up- and at least 4-5 Wins- as such, securing his safety from Relegation- if there was a time to get the first draft pick in a new campaign - then Manager dave okeeffe has already Won as his Squad insures his stay in League A. Look for a Top 6 finish for this Newly promoted Manager.
Manager guayo10 climb to League A has been a dominant one with a steady rise through the Leagues to win his place in the Top competition. This Campaign his first in League A and what a time to get on the Table. The new style of play proves fortuitous for Boca as they sport the most Talented player in all of TSL- 86 RS C. Tevez is the highest rated player to ever play in TSL- in 18 Seasons this Edition has never rated or written about anyone more dangerous and talented than 86 RS Tevez- and in his abilities Boca Juniors will rise to the occasion. 78 CAM Rodiero must relish the assists he will rack up from Tevez's runs and work rate- while 76 GK A.Orion will need to be sharp to cover his weak backline- but with Boca Juniors the key will be the man up top- look for solitary runs through any defenses and goals from afar as the sheer talent of this out of place Striker levels the playing tremendously for the Argentinian squad- in Tevez Manager guayo10 can claim a game by simply overpowering and outclassing the keepers and defenders around him. Look for Boca to stay comfortably at the Top of the table this Season- another Newly promoted Manager who will change the landscape of League A play for Seasons to come.
A broken hearted Manager HokieNYC was forced out of his beloved Southampton as the Club found the need to bring in a big name Manager for the newly 4.5 star rated squad. Manager HokieNYC signed on with Italian Squad Udinese - and like the Italians aging 79 ST Di Natale- the game seems to have outgrown this Manager and has lost a step or two in his attack. The Italians are a dangerous squad but with Manager HokieNYC's lack of experience this could be a relegation battle from the outset. Defensively - Udinese is a fortress - with 78 GK Karnezis anchoring a defensive line 78 CB Danilo and 78 CB Heurtaux forming a key barrier- in the Middle 75 CM Kone will look to feed three talented Strikers in 79 ST Di Natale, 77 ST Thereau and 76 Zapata. The Italians have an uphill battle this Campaign- as the new rules have proven a misfortune for Manager HokieNYC - who has gone Winless in his last 10 Friendlies- an indication of what may be Manager HokieNYC last campaign in League A. Look for the Italians to defensively battle it out but ultimately get relegated at Season's end.
Tigres enters League A play with Manager KnightNoles at the helm. The Mexican newcomer has French International 81 ST Gignac up front to provide some power- his lack of speed not withstanding - he is a force to be reckoned with up top. 79 ST Uche provides another Attacking option as well as 76 ST Sobis- the potent 77 Attack of Tigres will look to provide enough offense for points- as the rest of the squad looks paltry with 76 GK Guzman looking lonely on Defense as 75 CB Juninho and his 30 pace look to be the only standout. A fast midfield in 73 RM J.Damm (90 pace) and 74 LM J. Aquino (91 pace) look to connect quickly with their potent attack to alleviate the pressure on the defense. Overall Tigres look incomplete as a squad- with their Attacking 3rd League ready- but this is not Manager KnightNoles first Season- he managed to stay relatively safe last Campaign- and expect him to do the same this Season- look for Tigres to fill a spot comfortably in mid table- not enough talent on the Team to challenge for anything more- but enough to stay in a very competitive League A.
AS Saint Etienne
ASSE is a strong squad with a potent Attack 75 and a very disciplined backline 77- 83 GK Ruffier is the highest rated keeper in all of TSL- he anchors a defense that boast 82 CB Perrin and 78 CB Sall. The Midfield is suspect with 77 RCM Clement the lone standout- but in front of him is the talented Attacker in speedy 79 RW Hamouma- the rest of the balanced squad supports these talent adequately. How ASSE approaches matches will dictate their season as their open play can lead to more pressure than necessary on their Defense- but if they can slow the match down and slug it out- ASSE can smother most attacks with their backline- and a lone goal can be enough to take all three points.
It will be hard to find the back of the net against Ruffier this Season and this alone will insure that ASSE will be in the match most days. Expect this French side to survive the cut after it is all said and done- a close but ultimately safe campaign for the French side as they hover just above the Danger Zone by Mid Season.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
German side Hoffenheim lost their catalyst in Brazilian 81 CAM Firminho- but the Germans have reloaded and have arguably come back stronger- the addition of ST 79 Kuranyi has given this squad options up top. Technically this Hoffenheim squad can sport a Starting 11 that is rated 77 or above across the board. This German squad has pace as 80 ST Volland and 78 ST Vargas can blow by unwary Defenses- The Midfield is anchored by 77 CDM Schwegler and 78 CDM Polanski. Defensively 78 CB Sule and 77 CB Bicakcic protects 78 GK Baumann. Overall this is a Talented German team in the hands of an experienced Manager- dangerous and will be likely battling it out for Mid Table security. TSG has no aspirations Championships- just win the games they should and steal points at fixtures they can- ultimately its another Season for surviving in League A for the German side.
The Turkish club boast a highly rated balanced squad. 81 GK Kivrak can count on a very experience line - with 77 CB Douglas a stand out on Defense- old Chelsea man 75 LB Bosingwa and Belgian 76 RB Cavanda can provide enough Defensive cover. The Midfield is ladened with talent as Chelsea loanee 77 M.Marin look to jump start his stalled career and 76 RM Erdogan's pace (90) will keep Defenses honest. 78 CAM Ekici rounds out the talented trio in the Midfield- 78 STs Cardozo and N'Doye provide enough variety to keep most Defenses off balance - look for the Turkish side to dictate the attack through their Midfield. This Turkish side is a squad to be reckoned with and under the management of one of League A's more experience Managers- they can be very dangerous. Look for Trabzonspor to sit high Mid Table if not 3rd or 4th by Mid Season- under Manager vipermansa Trabzonspor can make some serious headway this campaign.
The Departure of 81 ST S. Eto will be the biggest question mark for Sampdoria- his production 16 goals and 7 assists carried the Italian squad through- finding an answer for that lost will be Manager wSeals9 top priority. 81 CF Cassano will look to fill that production along with 79 CF Eder- both providing a versatile answer for goals. The Attack has to provide cover to the Midfield that looks outclassed and a Defense that needs time to gel- Manager wSeals9 has been known to play an aggressive Defense and the new rules of play may fall in his favor but a weak backline can prove a double edge sword as other Managers can pin that weak midfield and defenders chocking out any potent attack the Italians may possess. If the Italians can find other scoring options then Sampdoria will comfortably settle mid table- but if Eto's absence is felt too hard- then a relegation battle may be in the future for the Italians. Sampdoria has shown some teeth in a few friendlies but can they carry that success in the campaign where gameplay can now be had at your own back yard? Will Sampdoria have enough to get out of their half?
The lost of 81 LW Depay cannot be under estimated. The new Defense schemes of FIFA 16 as well- but as with all new incarnation of FIFA Manager Zikry finds ways to Win. Last Season pin point through balls to speedy attackers left a lot of Defenses in tatters as the Dutch went rampant with multiple goal score lines. This Season- what is in play for the wily Manager as FIFA 16 claims to have eliminated quick attacks. PSV Eidenhoven still sports one of the top class squads in TSL- with an overall rating of 76 - the pace is still present in 77 LW Narsingh (93) and 71 RW Jozefzoon (92). But a more balanced squad with a midfield that rates 76-77 across and a Defense that has 79 CB Moreno and 77 Bruma flanked by two talented wing backs in 78 LB Willems and 76 RB Arias- a talented wall that 78 GK Zoet can comfortably work from means scoring not his Dutch Side can be frustrtingly a chore especially with that speed hovering around the passing lanes- expect this Dutch side to take full advantage of those passing lanes as they pin opposing offenses on their end of the pitch, relegating that vaunted Defense to spectators for most of the Campaign. PSV Eidenoven is the 2nd horse in this 2 horse Race for a Championship - any other squad out there can only hope to steal a point or two- Defenses will need to be lucky as well good and Offenses will need to be patient and calm - if any manger stands a chance. Expect the Dutch to duel it out with the Brazilians for League A supremacy come end of Season.
TSL C Preview can be seen here. (don't want to double-dip)
Gave me goosebumps reading this mate, I'll take this as motivation to not get relegated, that is my goal this campaign to not get relegated.
Boca Juniors here to stay?
La Boca - The journey that began in Season 10 for manager Eddi Guayo has finally reached its destination. His goal, to reach A is now complete. The goal now? Remain in A. Eddi Guayo will play with one of the better teams in the league as Boca boasts some impressive power in the striker and midfield areas. Below we recap the tumultuous journey that it has been for Eddi Guayo to reach A:
Season 10 Nothing Could Go Wrong
Manager Guayo shocked all of TSL (then TFS) as he took Barça B in the draft
Guayo led Barça B to a Serie C title, nearly a perfect run as Barça B went 11-2-1 in Serie play
Barça B had a magical Coppa run as they made it to the semifinals, losing to WingedHelmet and West Ham in PK's
The revenge was semi sweet as Barça B won the Super Coppa over WingedHelmet and West Ham
Season 11 Farewell Part Uno
Manager Guayo left Barça B and joined up with Riquelme's Boca Juniors
Guayo led Boca Jrs. to an unofficial record of 6-5-0, some games after the halfway point didn't count
Boca Jrs. won their Coppa group and Round of 16 matchup.
Once again Guayo fell to WingedHelmet and West Ham, but this time because of a forfeit
The Open Cup was Boca's to take when they had to forfeit their finals spot
Eddi Guayo's PS3 was stolen that fall.
Season 14 And We're Back. Then We Were Not, Farewell Part Two
With TFS (now TSL) finishing off seasons 11-13 on the PS3 manager Guayo had to wait till FIFA 15 to return to the circuit
Guayo chose a 3rd different team to manage, The Toon
Newcastle were in the thick of the promotion race when unforeseen circumstances had Guayo retire once more
For the 1st time in 3 seasons Guayo was unable to win his Coppa group, but still managed to get out of the group
Newcastle fell to Zikry and Marseille 1-0, marking the 1st time Guayo had been defeated in 90 minutes from the knockout stage
Season 16 The Return: Suprise
Being able to return after a hectic schedule, Guayo chose to return to Barça B and play with Halilovic
After a slow start Barça B took control of Serie C only to let it slip out of their hands with some late draws in the season
The Coppa showing was Guayo's worse of his short career as Barça B only managed 3 points from 3 matches
When the streak of advancing past the group stage seemed lost, Andanas and Lille shocked the world by defeating rschwep and the Crew and gifting Barça B another game in the knockouts
KnightNoles and Olympiacos came out swinging as they took an early 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Barça B fought back and got it back to 3-2 but couldn't find a 3rd in the last 30 minutes
After a win at Anfield, Barça B fell to RedAL925 and Sporting after achieving a 0-0 draw in Portugal and then falling 1-0 at home.
Season 17 Dale Bo, Dale Bo!
With rumours twirling around the league that Mark Siers was ready to pounce on Boca Jrs., Guayo decided it was time to go back
Carlos Tevez was also rumoured to be joining Boca that summer, knowing that others would jump on them for Season 18 if Mark Siers didn't pick them Guayo had to act fast
It was another successful run for Guayo and Boca as they ran away with B with a 14-4-3 record
Tevez scored a hat-trick in his first league game, finished with over a 2 goals per game average
Guayo fell once again to KnightNoles and Genoa in the Open Cup semifinal, "it's as if Knight has the cheat codes to score early" said Guayo in the post-match press conference. Genoa was up 2 before most took their seats
After winning his Coppa group once more, Guayo fell to vipermansa and Lyon in the Round of 16 to a 92nd minute winner
Season 18 Finally A
Guayo will attempt to lead Boca Juniors to some glory and finally some stars and cups in the avatar. Boca will have a tough 3 game stretch to open the season that includes a match up with CxMacx10, one of the favorites to win the first ever title in the newly renamed TSL A. Guayo has named a starting XI for the first match day:
GK: Guillermo Sara 75, surprised starter over Augustin Orion (76). Guayo was quoted saying "After the pepper spray incident Augustin Orion will never start for me. It was a disgrace how he handled it. He was a Captain of the team"
RB: Gino Peruzzi 75, nice little bump. RW/RB Fuenzalida (71) will be attempting to win himself some minutes.
CB: Fernando Tobio 72 & Daniel Díaz 76. The only other competition is Magallan (71), don't be surprised to see Fernando Gago drop to CB every now and then.
LB: Nicolás Colazo 75, no competition here. Maybe Erbes (75) if Boca is in an attacking mood.
CDM: Andrés Cubas 69, guy is a monster. Only 19 too. Beat out Erbes & Gago.
CM: César Meli 74 & Pablo Pérez 77, Fernando Gago (76) missed the cut.
CAM: Nicolás Lodeiro 78, only competition here would be Tevez if going with him as a CAM. Lodeiro is a magician at assisting the forwards.
ST: Jonathan Calleri 74 & Carlos Tévez 86, all the fooha being made about Tevez being an 86. The true tragedy here is that Calleri is only a 74. Put his name down, guy will be in Europe soon scoring goals.
Boca Juniors first 3 opponents:
Palmeiras, St-Etienne and Celta de Vigo.
DALE BO DALE BO!!!!!
Tevez may be coming back to Juve due to the fact that Boca is not paying him.....
I saw that, I doubt he leaves. I think this is his last stop, he's just one of those players that could probably make it to 40 but will stop before he turns 35. It's almost sort of January, rumor season takes no days off ha.
Following Frenchie1916's lead, I posted the TSL B preview here...
"Il Club più antico d'Italia"
"Title Or Bust!"
Now in League B following a disappointing spell last season in the top flight, Coach Bronc is now one of the favorites to earn quick promotion back to League A. And shortly after penning a deal with Genoa, Coach Bronc made that expectation pretty clear. "Our goal is to win the League B title, nothing less," said the newly appointed manager. "Promotion via 2nd or 3rd place is nice, but that's the minimum expectation this season. If we don't win the league title this season, it will be a failure on my part." Fairly strong words from the new manager considering how poorly his Dinamo Moscow team performed last season, yet a new club, new rules, new gameplay, and a chance to get back to the basics may just be be the recipe for success.
As for the selection of Genoa, the pick seemed to surprise some. Bronc has spent 10 of his 17 TSL seasons with German clubs, and another 5 with Russian teams. However, Bronc was eager to return to Italy, where he once managed Parma for a season and led them to a Serie A title in S13. "That season was fantastic, and I wish I could've remained there longer." Unfortunately, financial difficulties hit the club hard, plummeting them into bankruptcy and forcing them to sell off many of their players. That's not to say Genoa has a clean slate either though, as the club recently was denied a UEFA license due to some late filing of paperwork and issues with their stadium.
Genoa is made-up of many loanees, many of whom come from some major clubs. A total of 6 players are currently at Genoa on loan, and come from clubs such as Manchester City, Inter Milan, and Galatasaray. Many of these loanees are expected starters as well, most notably Alberto Costa (from Spartak Moscow), Diogo Figueiras (from Sevilla), and Cristian Ansaldi (from Zenit St. Petersburg). Looking at the Starting XI, the team has one of the strongest defenses in the game. "Part of the reason I chose Genoa was due to their defensive personnel. My best seasons have come with teams that stood strong in the back, and after a horrific season defensively with Dinamo, I knew that I needed to get back to my roots," said Coach Bronc. Mattia Perin (81 ovr) in net is one of the best GKs in TSL, and he is the highest-rated player in all of FIFA in goalkeeper reflexes, sporting a 90 rating in that category! Fullbacks Ansaldi, Figueiras, and Cissokho (79, 77, 77 ovr respectively) give the team depth and one of the best fullback combos in the league. Burdisso and De Maio (both 76 ovr) fill out the strong backline. CM Alberto Costa (77 ovr) leads the midfield and is an excellent two-way player, while Coach Bronc has some familiarity with CDM Tomas Rincon dating back to his days at Hamburger SV. However, the attack is a bit worrisome for Genoa. Perotti and Capel are excellent options on the wing, and Serge Gakpe looks like a Niang clone at striker (faster and a better shooter), yet the three expected starters would all have trouble finishing a ham sandwich (all 70 or below finishing). Without any great finishers, it'll be imperative to string together quality passes and open up the field in an effort to get easy looks on goal. But nevertheless, one thing remains clear in the eyes of their new manager- "Title or bust!"
Season 18 of TSL welcomes a new face to the league. New manager, Macri, has been drafted into Serie C and has quickly made outrageously premature claims to victory, "I will be in Serie A in no time".
This manager that "ancora puza di latte" is coming fresh off winning both the CONCACAF and MLS Reserve Tournaments with the Montreal Impact while waiting for his chance to join the TSL.
"I talk a big game but I'm really in it to have a great time" he said as he selected Hellas Verona as his first TSL team. "I do not have much to work with in terms of defense and attack, but I really hope to make a great impact on Serie C this year". Macri is targeting at least a promotion spot, but the strength of his team and lack of finishers up front may be an obstacle to great. "We have Pazzini, he will have to really step up this season if Hellas have any chance of going up."
Macri's last words before Match day 1, "It's gonna be a 'Hellas' of a ride, see you at the finish line!"
Club de Fútbol Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León
Los Tigres will compete in TSL A this up coming season and Manager Knight believes he could have something great in the making. Knight has always like pace on the field with good to great ball control and dribbling, and the Tigres certainly have some of that. After leading Olympiakos for two seasons in B, he earned promotion to A and was very much in the balance of relegation only to win the playoff and retain their A class. Three seasons were enough of leading the Greeks and Knight looked for something more of his fitting, and he found that in a Genoa squad led by Niang. After playing sometimes down to their competition, Genoa was in mid table form and had plenty of chances to finish in the top 3 but ultimately did not get the job done.
Knight really wanted to call Genoa home again this season but the departure of several club members, specifically Niang led to him not inking the contract. Instead, he started to look elsewhere and found three clubs that would suit him. First there was Bournemouth who had Gradel and suitable pieces that he was really leaning toward. Second there was Granada, and then Tigres came into the picture late. The difference was that the Tigres defense had a little bit more pace and marking than Bournemouth's. Knight signed a one year contract with an option for the next season.
An In-Depth look at the Copp.... TSL Cup Group Stage!
Lille OSC Andanas
Boca Jrs. Guayo10
Aston Villa John O'Connor
Contenders: Guayo10 & vipermansa
Why? Both teams in A, these tourneys define if you're good enough to be in A really.
Semi Contenders: John O'Connor
Why? Guzan will stand on his head and he gets a goal? Yeah it can happen, Guzan the god of FIFA.
I'm going to win the cup! Maybe next year? Andanas
Why? While Andanas has registered a win in Cups before, it will take more than 3 points to get out of the group stage.
Match Day 1 Trabzonspor @ Aston Villa
Crucial game for both, a loss for either manager might spell the end of a tourney run.
Match Day 2 Trabzonspor @ Boca Jrs.
Revenge? vipermansa eliminated Boca last term. That and oh boy does Broncos218 hate Turkish teams, 2 tough road games to begin their Cup run.
Match Day 3 Aston Villa @ Boca Jrs.
3 teams could eventually be tied with 3 points entering the last match day. This might be a win or die situation for both teams.
Hellas Verona Macri
Malaga CF hokie79
Contenders: KnightNoles & Broncos218
Why? History, Knight has done well in the past tourneys and well Broncos was once a good player that had a horrid last season on FIFA 15.
Semi Contenders: hokie79 & Macri
Why? Hokie has the best squad in the group, Macri has talked a big game. While he has won some reserve tourneys, the competition in those tourneys has been missing some of the better players. This will be Macri's 1st real test.
Match Day 1 Hellas Verona @ Genoa
L'Italia gets this group going, winner might be moving on while the loser will most likely have its hopes crushed. Big test for Macri and Bronc, is Bronc back? Can the real Bronc please stand up?
Match Day 2 Tigres @ Genoa
Back to back home games, yeah no corruption here. Huge game here, specially if both teams come riding in with anything but 3 points in their bag. Elimination game anyone? How about if Knight loses he's out of the league, I Quit Match? #TeamSONY
Match Day 3 Simulcast
I have a feeling both games will mean something. They'll actually mean a lot. Simulcast? PER FAVORE!
Crystal Palace Frenchie1916
Why? Anyone noticed which 2 A teams got semi easy groups. Maybe the easiest of them all, yeah no corruption going on here folks.
Semi Contenders: The field
I'd like to say it's redwings8831 2nd place to lose, but with the game playing differently I just can't. Still would peg him as the favorite, but a slip up here and there will give Frenchie1916 and Lions67 a shot.
Match Day 1 Bordeaux @ Olympiakos
Redwings needs a win here, but needs to not lose more.
Match Day 2 Olympiakos @ Crystal Palace
If Redwings fails to win both of his first 2 games then he'll be in trouble, last game is against Mac. For Frenchie, his toughest game will be behind him needs at least a point here.
Match Day 3 Crystal Palace @ Bordeaux
Redwings has anything less than 6 points here and he'll be in trouble. Another win or die game, should be fun.
Club America UcanHateMeNow
1899 Hoffenheim rschwep
Lokomotiv Moscow ASinghal31
Contenders: The Field
Why? This for me is the toughest group to call. It would be my group of death, specially if Knight runs away with group B. Expect all the matches to be close. Hell 3 teams may finish with 4 points when it's all said and done.
Match Day 1 1899 Hoffenheim @ Club America
1st A guy to be eliminated form the Cup? Tough game to kick off a Cup campaign.
Match Day 2 Lokomotiv Moscow @ Club America
2nd Ohioan to be eliminated from the Cup? Club America needs to walk away with at least 3 points from their 1st 2 matches.
Match Day 3 SIMULCAST
A 90th minute winner to decide the group? 3 goal 1st half to eliminate someone? Yes please.
RSC Anderlecht PhiGuy179
Coventry City BigBeansMcGee
West Ham SoFresh_Kev
Why? It would be disrespectful to his resume to put down the field.
Semi Contenders: The Field
Why? Last time we saw Coventry City BigBeansMcGee went ballistic, not in a good way. West Ham did really well in C last season for SoFresh_Kev. RSC Anderlecht had a million clean sheets, can PhiGuy179 do the same plus score with them?
Match Day 1 West Ham @ Coventry City
Rage v Rage. #CANTWAIT
Match Day 2 West Ham @ Udinese
Hokie could presumably clinch a knockout stage pass here. Check Groupme after the match for the Kev show!
Match Day 3 Simulcast
Not as exciting as Group D, but their should be at least one spot up for grabs.
West Brom BESHIKTAS
Atletico Mineiro Jugster
Why? Only A team in this group, albeit maybe no longer in the elite grouping of A (top 4)
Semi Contenders: The Field
Why? On paper, all 3 teams look even. JFace907 promised to take Newcastle to the promise land and well we're still waiting. pitt4life21 went defensive on us, who is this guy? Jugster went to the land of beautiful ladies for Carnaval season, and they say he hates women.
Match Day 1 Simulcast
Match Day 2 Simulcast
Match Day 3 Simulcast
Simulcast? I've changed my mind, this group might be the toughest to call. All 3 match days should be close and both matches on each match day will be important. Gun to head Match Day 1, Torino v Mineiro. Match Day 2, Mineiro v West Brom.
Sau Paulo RedAL925
VFB Stuttgart Mark Siers
Leicester City Scott Metcalf
Contenders: Lou & RedAL925
Why? Only A teams in the group.... oh wait.
Semi Contenders: Scott Metcalf
Leicester should be a fun team to play with in this years version, Team Underdog.
I'm going to win the cup! Maybe next year? Mark Siers
History mostly, but I'd say this he has improved. Prove me wrong.
Match Day 1 Saint-Etienne @ Sau Paulo
Revenge? Lets get this game on the big screen.
Match Day 2 Leicester City @ Saint-Etienne
Loser is out? Must not lose game for both teams
Match Day 3 Simulcast
Another group that should have one or two open spots heading into the last match day.
Stade Rennais abolishthefed
FC Lorient IJGator
Why? Up above I said 2 A teams got an easy draw. Mac and you guessed it. Both have 2 C teams in their groups and both will more than likely be on different side of the brackets. If this isn't corruption then call me crazy.
Semi Contenders: The Field
Why? IJGator has the experience, can he recover his form. abolishthefed showed some promise in a couple of big games last season, let Gomis roar man. KJLamb23 Ajax has a good team this cycle, KJ can do some damage with them.
Match Day 1 Stade Rennais @ Ajax
This will be a must win for both teams. Let the fun begin.
Match Day 2 FC Lorient @ Ajax
After a tough match day 1, IJGator needs a win here.
Match Day 3 FC Lorient @ Stade Rennais
This game defines who finishes 2nd? Probably.
Celta de Vigo dave okeeffe
Club Brugge Llad72
Contenders: dave okeeffe & wSeals9
Why? On paper the best 2 teams in the group.
Semi Contenders: Calhockey10
Why? Raise your hand if you had Cal going that deep in the tourney last season.
I'm going to win the cup! Maybe next year? Llad72
Why? Don't know much about this guy, but bookies peg him to finish 4th.
Match Day 1 Sunderland @ Sampdoria
Cal already pulled off an upset v Singh. Can he do it again?
Match Day 2 Sampdoria @ Celta de Vigo
Must win if any of these 2 teams fail to get a point from match day 1. SOTW?
Match Day 3 Celta de Vigo @ Sunderland
Playing for 2nd? Game should be a close one, could decide who advances to the knockout stages.
Disappointing Week 1, Week 2 ahead
La Boca - So much hype, so much expectation; after week 1 reports from Argentina suggest that Guayo is headed back to Spain to team up with Halilovic. Boca opened up its campaign with an embarrassing 3-1 loss to Celta and followed it up with a 0-0 draw in France. There was little hope for their final league game as CxMacx10 and Palmeiras came to town. Palmeiras left town with a narrow 1-0 win. 1 point out of 3 matches is never a good sign, Guayo must now steer the ship out of the relegation zone before beginning to think of a top 4 finish. All was not lost, as Guayo opened up cup play with an impressive 4-0 win.
"I would be lying if I told you we were 100% prepared for the start of the season. dave okeeffe and Celta came out firing on all cylinders, it's never easy going down 3-0. We knew we had lost the game after conceding a 3rd in the 1st half, we tried to stage a comeback to no avail. We were beaten badly at home, hats off to Dave for that win."
"We went into France looking for a point really, we knew we couldn't start the campaign empty handed. The game was a turbo slug fest as it seemed that no team wanted to keep the ball. Turnover after turnover, we must say we didn't really enjoy the speed and tempo of the game. But alas, we came out with a nil nil draw. Although Lou should've had a goal, the crossbar saved us."
"CxMacx10 is good, we all know that. He can sugarcoat it's a new game and all this but he's a good player. He came into Argentina and bombarded us. Shots were something like 10 to 2, we must say we kept him at bay. Most of the shots weren't threatening enough, that goal will haunt us from the corner. Lodeiro had his chance and missed, 9 out of 10 times he'll make that. We will get on our feet and fight."
"After the cup win we thought we were back, it was all a lie. Now our main focus is the Cup, the league is to gain safety but the Cup is our ultimate goal. Andanas was unlucky, had a span of 10-15 minutes where it all went to hell for him. We tried and tried and couldn't score. Finally found a break and scored. Took some of the pressure off of us. Those last 15 minutes, nuts. We're never a team to score or intend to humiliate the opponent. But man did we need that win. Another point should be close to enough for us, we will go out for the win next match day."
Malaga FC Week 1 Recap:
Serie B: 7 points | 2 goals scored | 0 goals conceded (3 clean sheets)
TSL Cup: 0 points (2-0 loss to Tigres)
"Defensively, this is the same team that earned 12 draws 3 years ago, only they got much better and more cohesive. We still need to work on the final third, but we are getting good chances, just need to finish them - we feel like we can pick up points the hard way...but no doubt, this is a great start for this club. Let's see how it goes onwards..."
Fun Fact - Hokie79 picked up 2 wins - matches the number of wins in Season 15 when he last managed Malaga. That was also his season breaking 12 draws - and his worst season as a Manager.
Last season, we completed the World Cup. Here's the top goals video to commemorate the spectacular matches over the course of the World Cup. Unfortunately, you won't see any goals by the champion Czeks or KnightNoles
You will enjoy the show!!!
That's because we were unspectacular, lol.
