invites sent... Need input from more than half of you on scoring system proposal above. Fangraphs points or what we used last year.
Give me some mutherfucking votes guys. There are two options. 1 and 2. Post what you want: Option 1 Batting Singles (1B)1 Doubles (2B)2 Triples (3B)3 Home Runs (HR)4 Total Bases (TB)1 Walks (BB)1 Runs Scored (R)2 Runs Batted In (RBI)2 Stolen Bases (SB)2 Strikeouts (K)-1 At Bats (AB)1 Caught Stealing (CS)-2 Ground into Double Plays (GIDP)-2 Pitching Innings Pitched (IP)3 Earned Runs (ER)-1 Wins (W)10 Losses (L)-10 Saves (SV)10 Blown Saves (BS)-10 Strikeouts (K)3 Hits Allowed (H)-1 Walks Issued (BB)-1 Shutouts (SO)15 Batters Faced (BF)0.33 Home Runs Allowed (HR)-4 Option 2 Hitting AB -1.0 H 5.6 2B 2.9 3B 5.7 HR 9.4 BB 3.0 HBP 3.0 SB 1.9 CS -2.8 Pitching IP 5.0 K 2.0 BB -3.0 HBP -3.0 HR -13.0 SV 5.0 HOLDS 4.0 AJ Hart MN PAgamer07 ryalaman briosu99 PepperNY Big Suge Knight KnightNoles Bondzai ty5oke BigSmooth33 Timpegoose DrunkenSoldier Colemanchu Juan Valencia
I guess (1) is the current/last years scoring so I'll go with that. Fangraphs on a glance, -1 for AB ouch and -14 for HR given up wowzers!
I mean, doesn't that make sense? Why does someone get credit for an infield fly vs a K in option 1? They both have the same negative run value, but they're treated differently. Outs are bad, you should be penalized for making them. And the pitching numbers make sense too. IIRC, the expected run value on a HR is about 1.4 ish runs, and the expected run value on a walk is about 0.3 runs. At first glance I think Ks may be a point too low, but if 1 point = 0.1 runs, then the point values look about right. Except for holds and saves. Fuck those things. Just use shutdowns and meltdowns or something like that instead if you insist on using a context dependent stat.
Actually, 1 is the correct answer and no, we are not wrong. This is fantasy baseball.. We can't let you baseball nerds take this from us too. Let's not make this more complicated than it should be. The less scoring, the better.
Well outside of the knowledgeable baseball people like me and Raji... it appears that option 1 is pretty much the majority. I really don't like how many points teams score in a week so I was thinking about streamlining the scoring somewhat... The proposed changes are in RED. Let me know what you think. They are very minor changes. Total bases eliminated completely. At bats changed to -1. So if a guy goes 0-4 in a game, instead of 0 points, he will have -4. Something that makes more sense. Finally, the Hold will be introduced. If there are no strong objections, I will then change the pitching to what it was last year: 7 P and 2 RP. That way with 14 members, guys will need to decide on taking a strong 8th inning guy to get holds, or an iffy 9th inning guy for saves. It adds a lot more strategy IMO. Especially because of having 28 RP spots, and only 30 teams in RL baseball not everyone is going to have a legit closer. By adding a couple of 8th inning guys, they can score just as well. Thoughts? Option 1 Batting Singles (1B)1 Doubles (2B)2 Triples (3B)3 Home Runs (HR)4 Total Bases (TB)1 Walks (BB)1 Runs Scored (R)2 Runs Batted In (RBI)2 Stolen Bases (SB)2 Strikeouts (K)-1 At Bats (AB) -1 Caught Stealing (CS)-2 Ground into Double Plays (GIDP)-2 Pitching Innings Pitched (IP)3 Earned Runs (ER)-1 Wins (W)10 Losses (L)-10 Saves (SV)10 Blown Saves (BS)-10 Strikeouts (K)3 Hits Allowed (H)-1 Walks Issued (BB)-1 Shutouts (SO)15 Batters Faced (BF)0.33 Home Runs Allowed (HR)-4 Holds 5
Excellent point. Then the only logical conclusion is to eliminate the AB scoring. And with that, eliminate Batters Faced as well, to not make pitchers as overpowered. They already score for innings pitched.
