    2015 Seminoles

After having the highest scoring team in college football history in 2013 and another elite passing offense in 2014, pretty much everything is gone. Gone is the best player in Florida State history as Jameis Winston is quarterbacking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft. Gone is Rashad Greene, the leading receiver in FSU history and Nick O'Leary, the leading tight end in FSU history. Oh, and four offensive linemen who are now in the NFL.

Quarterback will be decided on incoming transfer from Notre Dame Everett Golson and Sean Maguire, whoever wins the job has an assortment of skill guys to use. When Dalvin Cook gets through his legal issues, he will take the #1 running back spot and be backed up by Mario Pender, and how much PT will freshman Jacques Patrick receive. Receivers will be led by Travis Rudolph and Ermon Lane with Jesus (Bobo) Wilson Jr being a slot guy along with Kermit Whitfield. How much time will speedster George Campbell and Da'Vante Phillips get to play? TE play will come down to Mavin Saunders, Ryan Izzo and Jeremy Kerr.

The only for sure thing on the Offensive Line is LT Roderick Johnson, the other four positions will be decided upon and the team must gel for the offense to hit stride.

    upload_2015-8-16_19-49-41.png

The defensive line has depth, but can their be a superstar? Nile Lawrence-Stample, Derrick Nnadi, and Derrick Mitchell Jr. will rotate at the DT position, while Chris Casher, DeMarcus Walker, and Lorenzo Featherston will rotate at the Ends. The Linebackers are in shambles with MLB Reggie Northrup returning from an ACL tear in the Rose Bowl and Terrence Smith as the other incumbent starter. Juco transfer Lorenzo Phillips will try to make an impact along with some other young players. The secondary has one of, if not the best player in the nation in Jalen Ramsey and then have Tyler Hunter, Nate Andrews around him and then add in two 5 star recruits in Tarvaris McFadden and Derwin James.

    upload_2015-8-16_19-49-41.png

Specialist are Roberto Aguayo and he is the best in the Nation, but the NCAA likes to think otherwise by not giving him another Groza award. Punting duties belong to Cason Beatty, who has longed been talked about as being a not very good punter since Shaun Powell's absence. Kick returning and Punt returning will have some fierce competition as there is some serious speed on the team but the early looks in practice have been going to Kermit Whitfield, George Campbell, Bobo Wilson, and Jalen Ramsey.

Louisville, KY-- Florida State visited Louisville for the first time since their loss in Papa Johns Stadium in 2003 in Overtime during a heavy, heavy rain. Everett Golson debuted for the Noles and played well completing 20 of 37 passes for 215 yards with 2 scores. Travis Rudolph was the player of the game for the Noles as he hauled in 9 receptions for 93 yards and was the beneficiary of Golson's two TD passes. Reggie Bonnafon for the Cardinals played exceptionally well as he completed 22 of 24 for 219 yards with a score, but lost a fumble. Dalvin Cook chipped in 175 yards on the ground with a score on 19 attempts. Derrick Nnadi lead the Noles in tackles with 6 including 3 for loss, 2 sacks, and the fumble recovery which was dislodged by Reggie Northrup. A solid effort put together by FSU earned them their first victory but they need to continue to get better to chase perfection.

The Noles will host #12 LSU next week.

I didn't claim to running the best OD's around these parts by just sitting there, I love doing this stuff time permitting. (y)

I thought about it, didn't know when our history was starting.

Tallahassee, FL-- Florida State returned home after a victory at Louisville as the Bayou Tigers were coming into town for their first game of the season. LSU came into the contest ranked 12th and early on showed that. The Noles struck first but the Tigers put 10 points on the board by the second quarter. The ensuing kickoff was fielded by Whitfield and he took it back 106 yards for the 14-10 lead, and the Noles didn't look back but had to do enough to survive a fourth quarter rally by LSU. Golson didn't play well as he completed 8 of 19 for 127 yards, a TD and 2 INTs. Dalvin Cook had 22 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown. Freshman George Campbell had 2 receptions for 41 yards and a TD, while Ermon Lane led WRs with 47 yards on 2 catches. Derrick Nnadi led all tacklers with 9, and 2 TFL. Tuscaloosa, AL-- The #7 Noles traveled into T-Town to face the #3 Crimson Tide after having the week off. The first quarter FSU felt outclassed going down 10-0 in the first quarter. Florida State chipped into the lead to make it 10-7 on a Dalvin Cook 22 yard scamper but the Tide quickly extended it back to 10 when Derrick Henry ran it in from 3 yards out with 4:55 left in the first half. Dalvin Cook would leave the game with a mild concussion and in stepped Mario Pender who lead the Noles offense with 19 carries, 176 yards and 2 TDs, and FSU's player of the game. Roberto Aguayo kicked a 50 yard FG to tie up the game going into half at 17. The Noles chipped in 10 more points during the third quarter with a Pender touchdown run and another blast off of Aguayo's foot from 46 yards. He would hit another 42 yarder in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 30-17 and Alabama would finally find the endzone with a Henry run with 2:31 left. Henry would be Alabama's player of the game with 19 carries, 115 yards and 2 TDs. The Noles flirted with disaster after their HC got greedy and sent in a pass play with under 50 seconds remaining and Bama without any timeouts, as Golson threw the ball into traffic and the Tide would intercept it. Having to go 75+ yards for the game winner was a difficult task, they would complete a few passes and then take sack on the drive, and the Seminoles would escape out of Tuscaloosa.

The Seminoles will host Virginia next week.

Tallahassee, FL-- Florida State cruised to a 20-3 lead entering the fourth quarter and then all hell broke loose with 43 points score in the quarter alone. What was seemingly acceptable for the Noles suddenly became a problem in which the Coach addressed shortly after the ball game. Everett Golson had one of his better games of the season thus far completing 18 of 33 for 218 yards with 3 TDs and an interception. Dalvin Cook was up to task again of handling the rock and he just did that, rushing 19 times for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns. Travis Rudolph led with 5 receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. Reggie Northrup was all over the field collection 11 tackles, 10 solo, 2 TFL. Virginia's player of the game was Thorpe with 5 receptions, 114 yards and a TD.

Florida State will host a ranked Maryland team next weekend.

Tallahassee, FL-- Florida State cruised to a 21-0 lead before the Terps scored their first points of the afternoon. Then the Noles put up 38 more points as Maryland scored 3 more the rest of the game. Florida State took away five possessions, four picks and three of them were returned for touchdowns. The only negative outcome for the Noles was losing Golson for 2 weeks, potentially more, and Aguayo missing a FG. A fine defensive and offensive output by the Noles, something of which is usually the standard for them.

A Bye week looms and then the Clemson Tigers come to town.

Tallahassee, FL-- By all accounts this game should have not been close but turnovers and a Clemson rushing game had it go down to the wire, and primed for an upset hungry Tiger squad to upend the Noles. With Everett Golson sidelined with an injury, he was questionable coming into the game, and FSU found themselves up 17-14 after Clemson scored with 0:53 left in the second quarter. With the Noles having all of their timeouts left, FSU decided to go for it all and they knew Aguayo was in their back pocket to hit a big FG. He would end up putting a 41 yard FG through to go up 20-14. Clemson would claim the lead twice in the second half, the first at 1:32 left in the 3rd to go up 21-20. Then the Tigers reclaimed the lead with 2:45 left in the fourth with a FG at 24-23. The Seminoles efficiently drove the field and another FG off Aguayo's leg proved the difference in this rivalry game. Freshman WR for the Seminoles, George Campbell, had a coming out party with 4 Rec for 105 Yards. Dalvin Cook chewed it up on the ground but Gallman II was a huge part of the success for the Tigers, nearly rushing for 200 yards.

FSU will host NC State Next week while Clemson hosts Virginia Tech.

    Seminole News
The initial BCS Standings came out this week, let us take a look at the Top 5:
    1. Ohio State, 6-0, 1.000
    2. Oregon, 7-0, .995
    3. Florida State, 7-0, .987
    4. Baylor, 6-0, .987
    5. Stanford, 6-0, .979
The BCS is probably right on their projection, tOSU is the deadliest team in America and the undisputed defending champions. Oregon has looked more impressive than the Noles so far through the season and then we have Baylor and Stanford rounding out the Top 5. Florida sits at #6 and is chomping at the bit to start pushing themselves up.

    Recruiting News
:5stars: WR Tom Jenkins (6'4'' 194 pounds) from Zachary, LA has decided to commit to the Seminoles. His Top 5 included: Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, and Notre Dame. He stated that he likes the way the Seminoles have laid out a plan and what he needs to do to get onto the field his freshman year. He loves the offense, which likes to get the ball to big, fast receivers but also how those WRs are asked to do some dirty work in opening holes for the halfback.

Be on the lookout for some more 'cruiting news as the Seminoles will shortly hear back from twelve more players within the coming weeks.

Tallahassee, FL-- The Seminoles should have taken care of business early on during the game but they sat around and played with the Wolfpack. The absolutely crushed in total yards and racked up nearly 500 yards of offense but could only muster 27 points. The Noles visited the redzone nine times and score on three of them, while throwing three interceptions. Golson was a late entrance as he was still dealing with his abdominal injury but finished the game 15 of 31 for 247 yards, one TD and two INTs. George Campbell caught 5 balls for 117 yards and a TD. Whitfield returned a missed FG for a touchdown which put more distance in between the two teams.

Coral Gable, FL-- Florida State chasing perfection only to be ruined so far by the Canes again. Miami controlled the first half and led at halftime 17-14. The Seminoles felt all game they should have been able to put more points on the board but Miami continued to fight back and make key plays. Aguayo had an unfortunate bounce on a 58 yard FG attempt as it hit the crossbar and came back into play. Shortly after he received another FG attempt to tie the game again and this time he left it with familiar words in, wide left. Regardless the Seminoles kept fighting back and held the Canes to a FG in the fourth quarter and the ensuing possession for the Noles resulted in a TD, and a one point lead at 21-20. FSU had thought they had gained momentum and would get another key stop on the Canes next possession but they would only need 1:30 to get into the endzone themseleves and reclaim the 28-20 lead. FSU drove down the field and were facing a 4th and short and instead of huddling, they thought they would catch the Canes off guard and throw for the first and possible touchdown but that wasn't the case as Golson was dropped for a sack and turnover on downs. The game wasn't quite over yet, as the Seminoles forced a punt and had under 20 seconds to try and do something with the ball but ultimately came up short.

Florida State is still in contention for the Conference Championship and a shot at the National Championship as long as they win out, they control their own destiny along with Florida and Georgia inside the conference.

Next week the Seminoles will travel to a ranked Georgia Tech team while Miami will visit Virginia Tech.

Florida State would finish off wins in their final three games, Virginia Tech, Georgia, and top ranked Florida. They would face Alabama in a rematch from earlier in the year where the Noles won a close game, but the Conference Championship game wasn't close this time around.

    FSU VT: W 37-10
    FSU Georgia: W 43-39
    FSU #1 Florida: W 45-26
    FSU #12 Alabama: W 38-19

With the three games against ranked opponents, FSU saw their BCS stock soar and finish #2 behind Ohio State who they would face in the Title Game. The Noles couldn't overcome 5 TOs and lost 24-10. A punt return for a TD by Whitfield seemed to give the Noles some momentum and they did cut the lead to 17-10 in the second half without giving up any offense to the Bucks. At the same time the offense couldn't get out of their own way and put together drives to tie and take the lead. Credit given to the Bucks for not screwing it up and making more plays, while FSU felt they didn't get beat, they beat themselves and walk away with an empty feeling and no crystal. Now is the time to get back to work and prepare for redemption next season!
