    Team Info

    2009 Team Info

The Florida State Seminoles return 12 total starters.
    OFFENSE (7)
Andrew Datko, So. (OT), Rodney Hudson, Jr. (OG),
Ryan McMahon, Jr. (C), David Spurlock, So. (OG),
Zebrie Sanders, So. (OT), Caz Piurowski, Sr. (TE),
    Christian Ponder, Jr. (QB)
    DEFENSE (5)
Budd Thacker, Sr. (DT), Kendrick Stewart, Sr. (DT),
Dekoda Watson, Sr. (LB), Jamie Robinson, Sr. (FS),
    Patrick Robinson, Sr. (CB)

The team is still relatively young, the offensive line should be one of the best in the country and with two All-Americans. The ground game will be the focus with some talented backs in Jermaine Thomas, Carlton Jones, and Tavares Pressley (ACL injury last preseason) leading the way. The WR took a hit losing Preston Parker and Greg Carr, but return Bert Reed and Taiwan Easterling. The Noles have a full year starter back behind center in Christian Ponder and super talented EJ Manuel behind him.

The defense will be led by Dekoda Watson and the two Robinson's in the secondary. The front four are getting better and heavier by the year and bring in two highly freshman linemen, Jaccobi McDaniel and Demonte McCallister along with Markus White trying to replace Everette Brown's void. LBs with Watson are Nigel Carr and Nigel Bradham both freak athletes. The secondary will be inexperienced behind the Robinson's but the talent is there. Fresh Greg Reid should earn some playing time and Terrance Parks should be a household name halfway through the year depending if he breaks starting lineup.

    Nigel Bradham

    Patrick Robinson, 7 career picks

The team can certainly go 11-1 with the talent they have, but may end up at 9-3 with a ACCcg and Bowl win it would be 11-3. Main goal is first to win the ACC then look and see where we are heading.

Tallahassee, Fl-- The Hurricanes didnt bring much of a storm with them as they settled for four field goals and were gashed on defense. Jermaine Thomas rushed for 182 yards and spent two quarter out of the game. EJ Manuel passed for 272 yards. The defense shut down the Canes with Bradham and Parks each with seven tackles.

*wished that our first game wouldnt have gotten disconnected, been a better write up.

Florida State traveled to Happy Valley with something a little more to prove than the Miami game. How well do they stack up against a top ranked team even if they are 0-1. None less, FSU came out and punched Penn State in the mouth, scoring 21 unanswered points to begin the game. Two four yard runs by Chris Thompson and EJ Manuel and then EJ being pressured heavily threw off his back foot for a 28 yard td pass to Fortson.
Penn State would get on the board with a Royster 1 yard td run, which was setup by nice drive by PSU. To end the half Patrick Robinson would pick off Clark with 0:30 left and then Manuel would wind up hitting Reed for a 40 yard td pass as time expired. Florida State took a lead of 28-7 into the half.

The third quarter would be relatively quiet as Manuel threw a 11 yard TD pass to the TE Caz Piurowski. Fourth quarter, Penn State would score with a Clark TD pass setup by two blown coverages in the secondary both by Gerald Demps as the second team offense and defense were in by this time. Dustin Hopkins would answer with a 37 yard FG and then as FSU was trying to run out time, Pressley took a option pitch 40 yards for a TD. Penn State would score to finish out the game with a Clark to Zug 59 yard TD pass.

Tallahassee, Fl-- EJ Manuel and the Noles looked a little bit erratic when the gameplan was on the QB and the wide receivers. EJ only completed 39% of his passes and the WR had 13 dropped passes. The game was never in doubt and not as close as the score indicates, the defense played exceptionaly well. EJ threw 3 tds and 5 picks and that will get better as Coach Knight wanted to put his arm to use today, as the backs or back only received five carries. Jermaine Thomas took those five carries and produced 75 yards, 15.0 avg and 4 Tds. Even though the receivers had many drops Reed and Commack both had over 130 yards. The Noles did well forcing turnovers but EJ threw the ball wild and negated them as both teams had 5.

    Coach Knight
"I thought EJ did alright today and help me learn what he can and cant do. We wanted to put the game in his hands and arm and limited Jermaine because we know that sometimes the rushing attack isnt always going to be there. We can now hit teams from both the air and the ground and stay balanced, with J gettin 15.0 yards a carry, I mean really he had 3 carries inside the 10 for Tds then has another carry go 63 yards for a score, the guy is talented. Boy our receivers are going to be on the jugs machine and tennis ball drills this whole week as we prepare for a huge game here at home vs Oklahoma. I believe they will come in ranked top two in the country and should be exciting. thanks"

    Ou @ FSU

    Oklahoma @ Florida State

Oklahoma travels to Tallahassee looking to continue what eluded them last year, a national title. The Noles look to continue getting better and try to continue to come back and announce there return to the elite. Both teams are looking for a win as they both will have one more obstacle to go through before they can run the table. Oklahoma is in the middle of each category, while Florida State has numbers on offense in the top 15 while there defense "looks bad." Ou will carry the title as the number one team in both polls while FSU is eight. This has to be one of the anticipated games in the history of Coast2Coast and both coaches hope to prove that. Kirk and Lee have both picked the Noles to win.

    FSU v. Ou

Doak Rocks as Noles Beat Sooners

Tallahassee, Fl--One of the most anticipated games in Coast2Coast history lived up to its hype, even though the score may not show that. The first quarter was a battle of field position and it earned Oklahoma a field goal to open up the second quarter at 6:24. It took until 1:54 until a team scored a touchdown as EJ Manuel hit TE Caz Piurowski on a 4 four yard slant for the score. Oklahoma would turn it over in the final minute of the second quarter and FSU capitalized on it. Manuel droped back as the outside receiver ran a deep post and inside slot ran a fly route. EJ pumped fake and then released the ball for a 33 yard TD to Avis Commack and the Noles took a 14-3 lead into halftime.
Florida State would be the only one to score in the second half, a Dustin Hopkins 33 yard FG in the third quarter and a 3 yard TD run by Jermaine Thomas. Thomas carried the rock and the team on his back, rushing for 171 yards on 30 carries with a TD. Manuel did well managing the game as he threw 16 times completing 7 for 98 yards with 2 TDs and 2 picks. Defense played exceptional with Terrance Parks, 10 Tack, and Nigel Bradham, 8 Tack, leading the way.

    Coach Knight
"I'm very thrilled about this game and I give a lot of respect to Coach Troy at Ou. Our defense played well, sometimes I thought if he would have ran more we may have given up more, but we kept him in longer situation that may have forced him to throw and our secondary thrived. Jermaine had a helluva game, I need EJ to be more efficient next time out. It was probably a factor of seeing another fast and top defense out there and had pressure a lot faster, last team that had that was Miami. We just have to keep improving and our schedule looks very manageable with Florida at the end and we want to give them something that they havent seen in a while."

Noles prepare for visit at BC

Florida State is starting to receive some attention from the media and hardly any love from the coaches. The Media poll moved FSU from 8th to number 1 as the Coaches poll only moved them three spots to number 5. Lee Corso has picked FSU to win again and Kirk has gone with Boston College.. Florida State sits at 4-0 (1-0) and BC is 3-1 (1-1). The next 8 weeks the Noles go through ACC play with a BYE week and in the 9th and final week of the season they meet Florida in the Swamp.

In recruiting news the Noles cut their prospects from 26 down to 22. When asked about Safety Micah Wolfe, Coach Knight responded, "Well I wish the kid the best, I really thought he was going to hold out and wait to take his visits. We were highly interested in him and time will tell if he made the right decision, I was really disappointed when I heard after the Oklahoma game."

Noles play sluggish, regroup win big

Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts-- The Seminoles looked lethargic coming off a big win and it showed as they took a 14-6 lead into halftime. The only offense that they could get going was from Jermaine Thomas as EJ Manuel had an injury that caused him to miss most of the 2nd and 3rd quarter. Redshirt Junior Christian Ponder only attempted 4 passes and complete 1 for 25 yards. The Noles kept the ball exclusively on the ground between Thomas and Freshman Chris Thompson. The offense responded better in the 2nd half as they put up 17 points in the third quarter and then another 9 in the fourth. The defense played exceptionally well once again and was led by Terrance Parks play as he intercepted a pass for the second consecutive game. The defense score 9 points, a Parks interception return for a TD and a safety.

    Coach Knight
"I think we came out in the first half a little sluggish and with probably zero intensity, coming off a big win especially number one in nation will do that to you. I think we got going offensively later in the game and Jermaine should start to get some Heisman looks, the kid is unbelievable. I mean 170+ vs Ou and the 220+ tonight wow. What about Terrance's play, he is playin like an elite safety right now, great instincts, big hitter, ball hawk. He did get out of position a lil towards then end of the game probably because he wanted some more tackles, I think he said he was gunning for 15. Next week we have Georgia Tech and our team has a lil revenge on their minds as we fumbled on the goal line last year and lost. I gotta go study the option, thanks."

    Noles, GT Pregame News

Tallahassee, Fl-- Some recruiting news coming out of the Noles camp is that :4stars: FS Dustin Hopkins commits to the Noles. He was scheduled to take his visit this week but ended up not coming and just faxing in his letter of intent. Some more news is that the Noles are bringing in 6 recruits for their visits including David Stewart, Matt Gaither, Nate Alvarez, Willie Stewart, Lenny Wright, and Anthony Mason.

Georgia Tech comes limping into Tallahassee at 2-3 and 1-2 in the conference. The game features the #2 and #3 rushing offenses in the nation, so the game clock should constantly be moving. Corso is picking FSU to win while Kirk is going with the Ramblin' Wreck. The analyst are split again and Kirk isnt giving any respect to the Noles for the second consecutive week. Jermaine Thomas finally breaks into the Heisman race and looks to continue his run. The media poll dropped the Noles from the number 1 spot down to number 2, while the Coaches' poll keeps the Noles at 5.

Tallahassee, Fl-- Florida State revenged and added more on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, they routed them and then shut them out. Led by EJ Manuel's two touchdown passes and Jermaine Thomas 148 yards and Td. About everyone received a rushing attempt while nine players rushed for a yard or more. EJ only attempted ten passes completing five of them while two others were dropped. Jarmon Fortson and Avis Commack both caught a touchdown pass as their lone reception. The defense was led by safety Terrance Parks and Markus White, both in double digit tackles. The Noles basically pinned their ears back and dared the Jackets to pass the ball as they had twenty-three (23) tackles for loss. FSU forced Josh Nesbitt out of the game early in the 1st half and GT had to go with Jaybo Shaw.
The Noles get a week off then head to North Carolina for a dreaded Thursday night game.

    Coach Knight
"Well we took care of the pests this year and didnt rely on a final drive to win the game. EJ played well and made all the throws that we asked him to, Jermaine just keeps doing his thing and we held him out for most of the 4th quarter. Boy, doesnt Terrance look like the best safety in the nation out there? I think he still has a long way to go but he is playin great right now, Taylor Mays is the top of the line right now. We have a week to prepare ourselves for the stretch run that includes only 2 home games and 4 road games, its going to be tough but if we can survive we should be in the Title conversation."

Noles have BYE week then @ UNC on Thursday Night

Tallahassee, Fl-- The Seminoles coming off their first shutout of the year versus Georgia Tech received word that David Stewart a five star defensive tackel, number one overall DT, and four star free safety Dustin Hopkins have their letters of intent ready to be delieverd to campus. Stewart is going to make the push to be enrolled for spring ball while Hopkins will finish out the school year. The other five vistors also bump FSU up to number one on their lists. Also Florida State cut their prospects down to nineteen with four commits, so that leaves fifteen players that they are keeping their eye on.

The BYE week prepares FSU for a dreaded Thursday night game at UNC and helps the coaches to hit the recruiting trail. It also gives Coach Knight some time to update the statistics and other house keeping issues.

    Noles prepared for UNC

After a long week and a half the Noles landed in Chapel Hill Wednesday afternoon. The Noles come into the game ranked three in the polls while UNC sits at nineteen. Corso and Herbstreit are split again with Kirk picking against the Noles for the third straight week! I've heard that FSU has planned on putting up a lot of points because 1) they arent getting any respect and 2) BCS rankings come out next week.

    Some recruiting news:
During a weekly phone call Coach Knight received word that Anthony Mason, a 6'2'' 215lb Strong Safety has joined the 09-10 recruiting class. He is a four star product out of Levelland, Texas. He is big enough to make a switch to OLB if needed since he is the third safety that has committed.

    Coach Knight
"I'm happy to welcome Anthony to the program and hope that he will do what we ask him to do, we may roll him down to a safety/linebacker hybrid because he has the size to do that. I have also received word that Gaither has given a soft to us and our class should be coming to a close in the next few weeks."

Chapel Hill, NC-- Florida State picked off where it left off against Georgia Tech scoring seventeen points to start the game. UNC came back to score before half and holding the score 17-7 until the fourth quarter. FSU would force a fumble picked up by Markus White and he returned it for a seventy yard touchdown. Manuel struck with another td pass to his TE Jabaris Little. UNC would score again, Yates to Greg Little. Then Jermaine Thomas would run in his second score from five yards for a 38-13 win.

    Noles host Wolfpack

Florida State prepares to host NC State coming off a top 25 win against UNC. NC State comes into the game 5-2 (2-1) in the conference and Corso and Herbstreit, with Kirk picking against the Noles again. Jermaine Thomas keeps trying to make his push for the Heisman but the voters are overlooking him. EJ Manuel continues to have a good year and didnt throw a interception last game and looks to continue that. The defense wants to continue to play at a high level and try to get in the top 25 defenses.

Recruiting News: The Noles pick up a soft verbal from Nate Alvarez a DT ranked 4th at his position. They have received commitments from SS Anthony Mason ranked 6th at his position and 5 star OLB #1 Matt Gaither. This week Jeff Lamb will make his visit to campus an OLB #16 overall OLB
