    FIFA World Cup

How many people are going to get this game? I was thinking of setting up the world cup and playing it through online. I'd love to gauge interest in it.

Here's what my ideas are (I can get more people if they are interested as well).

    I would need:

A multiple of 8 number of user teams. So 8 (most likely), 16, 24, 32...

Assuming that there are 8, I would take the top two teams in each group (via FIFA Rankings) and use a random draw to assign a team to each user. Each user would have the group stage games against the CPU to get acclimated to their team, I feel three games would be enough.

Hopefully all user teams make it to the knock out stages, where we would then go into an 8 team playoff to see who gets the cup!

It's not nearly as huge a commitment as a full league season, so hopefully we can fill it up with TF guys. The most games you would have to play is 6, with three against the CPU. I would love to get through it all in a week or two, and then see what the interest would be in possibly doing more. Maybe once monthly, and to the winner goes a sig or something?

Who's with me...Blaza hold me down bro!

Hey man, you know I would be in. I would suggest running the tournament with FIFA 10. I'm not sure how many guys will be shelling out more cash for the WC game.

Good point...let me see how many of the WC teams are in FIFA 10.

FIFA WC should be a downloadable content in all reality :/

The demo for the WC game came out today. I'm DLing it now. I'm on the fence as well--I usually don't get the interim games but I may scoop this if it's solid enough.

The x's are teams that are in FIFA 10, and those are all 32 teams that are in the Cup this year. Any idea who we would replace the other teams with?

I would be down for getting in on this. I do not currently have either game though but I am planning to buy 1 of them.

I downloaded the WC 10: South Africa demo over the weekend and am actually really impressed. The gameplay is definitely amazing and even better than FIFA 10. The ball has more weight to it when passing around the park. The pitch itself is bigger giving the feel of more open space and freedom. The game isn't as frenetic. You can play a high paced game, but it's harder to string a ton of wall passes all over the pitch. If you want to play possession, you have to be very calculated. Otherwise, the defense will simply find their shape and win the ball back. That's real football.

Positioning of players overall is much better. CPU teammates and opponent AI are much much improved. I saw a play develop where Italian CDM De Rossi drifted out wide, took on a defender 1 v 1 and hit a killer through ball to LB Grosso who tapped it in. That type of buildup would never happen on FIFA 10 against the CPU. Visually the game is OUTSTANDING. And this is on a demo. Player models are larger and even more detailed. There is no doubt that it will be one of the nicest looking games around in terms of animations and colors. It looks really good.

All that being said, I'm still on the fence on getting this game. I'm sure impulse will takeover at some point and I'll end up scooping it while I'm out one day, but I'm really disappointed that they are charging full-price for a mid-cycle game. If it were $39.99, I'd be all about it, but EA is testing my inner-Christian with this BS.

Here's a little preview from ESPN:

Could users form an online league in regular FIFA or no? I personally think that would be more fun and engaging than doing the World Cup since that would be real quick

There is an online league function, and it as been tried a few times in this forum (check some of the threads) to no avail.

I would be down for that, with maybe about 4 users? Take the big four from EPL and see who wins out?
