    2013 Fighting Irish Schedule

    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
    Week Opponent Result Score
    1 Nebraska W 35-28
    2 Michigan (JCA3) W 48-7 (simmed)
    3 BYE - N/A
    4 Miami W 35-17
    5 Cincinnati W 48-20
    6 Arizona State W 63-7
7 USC (Jfunk) L 31-14 (great job JFunk)
    8 BYE - N/A
    9 Washington L 27-21 (simmed)
    10 Wisconsin W 38-24
    11 BYE - N/A
    12 Pittsburgh W 45-17
    13 Kansas State (H22) W 35-10 (simmed)
    14 Arkansas (bkhogfan) W 27-7
    15 BYU W 41-0
    Orange Bowl #14 Maryland W 49-17

The Irish finish an impressive 11-2 and earn some BCS hardware (Orange Bowl). Fans were a bit dissapointed as most were expecting to be repeat national champions, or at least get to the title game with a chance to defend.

Nevertheless, ND had a young team (only 11 seniors) so we can expect big things from the team next season.

    Week 1:

#1 Notre Dame vs #6 Nebraska
    35
    - 28
All I can say is that Nebraska is damn good. It was a very tough game, on the road, to open the season.

    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    - 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    ND 0 21 14 0 35
    NU 14 0 0 14 28

The game was very exciting, with momentum swaying heavily with big plays. Nebraska scored on a 56yd INT return in the 1st Q and an 87yd fumble return in the 4th Q.

Nebraska had the ball with 0:40 to go and a chance to tie, but ND managed to stop them near midfield to preserve the win.

    Player of the game:
    QB Nick Montana
    21/37 for 355yds, 4TD and 1INT

Next week: a BIG rivalry game

#21 Cincinnati crumbles to #1 ND

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    Cincinnati 3 3 0 14 20
    Notre Dame 7 14 14 13 48

    What it came down to;
    * Cincinnati's spread was useless since they were unable to run the ball out of it. ND linemen were smacking QB Edwards pretty much every play. DT Foreman had 3 sacks on the day
    * Irish efficiency in the RedZone. Finished the day with 6 trips, scoring 4TDs and 2 FGs.

    Player of the game:
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5
    Att Yards TDs Avg
    RB Maxwell 9 64 1 7.1

Maxwell added 6rec for 98yds and 1TD. He called it a game by halftime as the Irish were already up big.

    Up next:
A trip to the west coast to play Arizona State. ASU football has been quite boring lately, and they arent expected to put much of a fight against the #1 team... The cheerleaders are already comfortable.

The most important part of the west coast trip is ND will bring back from the west coast the #2 ranked USC Trojans. If there is no spoilers the 1 vs 2 matchup in South Bend will be historic.

Arizona State implodes at home to ND

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    Notre Dame 21 21 7 14 63
    Arizona State 7 0 0 0 7

    Story of the game;
    * By halftime the score was 42-7. The stadium was half empty, all that were left were ND fans celebrating in their drunken stupor watching the 2nd team go at ASU.

NOTE: the final score was ugly, I didn't run up the score... I supersimmed the entire 2nd half because ASU sucks badly the game was boring.

After xmas got in the way of my summaries I'm back. Quick updates.

I got dominated by JFunk (USC) 31-14.
I lost to JDunn (washington) 27-21. I was out of town so I was on autopilot
    I beat wisconsin (CPU) 38-24.

At this point I am 6-2 and ranked #10. Travelling to PITT to play the lowly 3-6 Panthers.

    Panthers tamed by Irish

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    Notre Dame 7 14 10 14 45
    Pitt 7 3 0 7 17

    Story of the game;
    * Punishing ground attack kept the chains moving. ND ran for 219 tough yards on 46 carries.
    * Defense was extremely stout with the exception of Pitt's two scoring drives where ND got beat deep.

    Player of the game:
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
    Name Carries Yards TDs
    RB Maxwell 33 166 3

    Newsworthy
ND currently holds the #1 recruiting class with 12 commits broken down as follows:
    9 - :5stars:
    3 - :4stars:
Barring any transfers or players leaving early, there are only two spots left in this years recruiting class.

The staff made special mention of RB Fred White (#1 RB in class) :5stars:
"Tremendous quick first step and top knotch speed to boot. Once this kid blows by the linemen he is off to the races."
as well as DT Neal Sutton (#5 DT in class) :4stars:
"The strongest DLineman coming out of highschool I have ever seen. This guy is an ox."

Quick update, I got a sim win vs H22 because I was out of town and since he is going to be switching teams he was gracious enough to offer that.

    #2 Razorbacks (bkhog)
    roll into
South Bend looking to solidify their #2
    BCS ranking

... but the Irish showed up to play

    Scoring Summary
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
    Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
    Arkansas 7 0 0 0 7
    Notre Dame 3 14 3 7 27

The game got off to a shaky start for ND, as the Arkansas special teams would give them a quick score to go up 7. The Arkansas special teams were spectacular all game long, they managed 194 yards vs ND's 62.

The turning point in the game came when ND got the ball back with about 1minute in the 1st half, up 10-7 and managed to hit WR Mann who was covered by the SS that was caught out of position, the play went for a 42yd TD.

    Story of the game;
    * The ND defense was the difference in this one, holding Arkansas to 37 total yards (5 sacks) and 0/7 on third down.

    Player of the game:
    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
    Name Carries Yards TDs
    RB Maxwell 32 173 2

    and most importantly no fumbles.

    Up next:
Notre dame is currently ranked 10th in the BCS with 2 losses (pending new poll).

With a much easier next game (@BYU) on the schedule for the season finale, experts expect ND to snap up an at large berth and play Tennesse in the Sugar bowl.
