Is there anything in particular you like to do on first down? Obviously a lot of people like to call a run play. I find that if I run PA on first down, it's usually a sack because of a heavy blitz. Looking for ideas to spice up my play calling a bit.
The only time I call PA is on first down. I generally start off the game running on first down 95% of the time, but as the game moves on I'll start moving towards pass to try and catch people off guard. I think the biggest thing is to mix up your play calling within a formation. If I'm coming out in an I-Form and only running then its obvious regardless of what down it is what I'm going to do. Thats where I sometimes get a little lacking myself, not passing enough about of the 2 WR formations etc.
You're on to something there, a lot of people bring heavy pressure on first down because so many people run on 1st down. Pretty easy to pick them apart once you recognize their tendency.
Ha I have about a -3 yard average running on first down. Then once I flex my passing muscles I average 1.2 fumbles every third first down in the first half of my games. Welcome to the TMFL, where success is temporary & adjustments are necessary. I thing they've been studying my videos.....
Hahaha... I'm good to go bro, mental mistakes is all, only person I felt beaten by was phil and after our bout with desync's I believe I have his number. To stay on the point of the post my only flaw with my play calling is mixing the range of my plays up. Going deep vs mid-range vs dink and dunk type plays. Using two WR sets to pass is a weapon for me, my contribution would be a suggestion of running out of passing forms, not draws but off tackles and sweeps from 3 wide sets. To me it's more than a first down philosophy I like to set goals per series, when I'm not fumbling.
I generally keep it on the ground, get a feel for what defensive strategy I'm facing. It'll morph into a passing play getting selected, and if I don't get the coverage I want, a simple Run Audible can be called. I'd say I likely run it 65% of the time though, depending on if I'm down by 20 or not.
Ground first first down of the game and then I'll rotate accordingly to what I believe their tendencies are
I hit it on Steve probably, 6 times in our TMFL rivalry, 5 out of 6 worked. Plenty of times I audibled out of it though, it has to be the perfect look.
If the TE screen is on the right side, I need to see either an over look on the left, and/or a safety creeping down on that side. Usually leans to a zone play, and even the flats won't cover the Tight End in that instance.
I like to politic too long in the play call menu and get delay of game , so far it's worked ok for me
I believe it's a must to stay confident and positive in everything I do. If you go into anything thinking failure, you've already lost IMO. But yes, I've played some tough games that I should have won, barring any excuses the better team won 100% of the time. The first full season into the TMFL is a process, talented league with tough sliders this is why I signed up ……… you'll see my work eventually.
