    Gators win on big plays!

The John Brantley era got off to a good start (35-7 W) . . . thanks in part to a hungry Gator defense. Moses Jenkins and Brandon Hicks would pick off the first two plays from scrimmage and return them for scores to put the Gators up 14-0 before Brantley ever steped on the field. The Gator defense was dominant forcing 3 Turnovers (Will HIll Int) and registering 1 sack. Miami University lone scored came on a fumble return due to poor execution of the option by Gator QB Trey Burton.

Back to Brantley. Brantley was efficient only missing on two passes and hitting a variety of routes. He even did his best Tim Tebow impression by rushing for a 12 yard TD. Brantley: "It felt good out there. I was nervous but coming into a 14-0 game to take my first snap helped alot!" Coach Urban Meyer stated that, "Johnny played well. It's going to get tough er each week. We will see how he responds."

Chris Rainey had a nice day playing the "Percy Position." He touched the ball in a variety of ways and scored on a 24 yard speed sweep. Deonte Thompson had a nice outing a WR also adding several catches. Jeff Demps and Mike Gillislee combined for well over 100 yards of rushing. Demps got a chance to show that sub 10 sec 1oo meter speed on a 67 yard burst where he was untouched and uncatchable. The Gator Offensive line blocked well for the run game and gave up only 1 sack.

    Florida beats USF 27-10

Howard led the way with 2 sacks.

The Florida Gators were the better team on Saturday. They came into Tampa and jumped on the Bulls early taking a 21-0 lead. John Brantley got another une up before heading into Neyland Stadium. Brantley threw his first two Td's of the year. One to Jeff Demps against an all out blitz which Demps could have walked in the endzone if he had chosen. The second on a 3rd and 20 Brantley and the Gator offense executed a screen pass out wide to Carl Moore that went for 85 yards. Emmanuel Moody put the Gators on the board with a rushing TD in the first quarter as well. Caleb Sturgis was able to hit two FG's in this one with one coming from 51 yards out.

The Gator defense dominated this game. They came away with 3 TO's 2 by way of interception and 1 via fumble recovery. Jaye Howard registered 2 sacks in this one. The Gators would give up a late TD pass with under 2 minutes to go in the game.

Coach Urban Meyer: "We were inconsistent. We jumped out early and tried to get some other things in we have in our playbook and we lost the flow. We've got some protection issues that we need to have fixed going into SEC play. IF we don't keep Johnny upright we are asking for trouble."

    Brantley gets it done!

The Florida Gators escaped Knoxville with a 24-17 win. This game was a tale of two halves. The Vols did everything right in the first half and the Gators took over the second half. John Brantley threw for a career high 292 yards and 2 scores in this contest despite the rainy conditions. Speaking of Rain, one of Brantley's favorite targets on the day was Chris Rainey who hauled in a 85 yard TD pass that would have been incomplete if it was thrown an inch further. Brantley would hook up with very highly touted recruit rFr. Andre Debose for a 57 yard yard strike to put the Gators up for good. Caleb Sturgis hit 3 FG's to round out the scoring. Special teams came up big in the 4th quarter as a deep Chas Henry punt was taken by Tennesee's Oku. Dee Finley put a hat on the ball and the Gators recovered to add the last Fg and put force the Vols to have to score a Td adn exp to tie the game. The game would end on a failed hail mary attempt in the endzone.

Urban Meyer: "Johnny put us on his back. He checked out of two plays and turned them into the two TD passes. That's maturity and "it" factor that seperates the Brady's and Manning's from the Russell's of the world."

    Burton's burst sparks Gators!

The Florida Gators got off to a slow start, then exploded for 21 points in the second quarter. John Brantley was able to hit Andre Debose and Chris Rianey for TD passes despite only throwing for 125 yards and throwing his first interception which was returned for a score. The running game struggled again and the defense had trouble stopping Derek Locke the Wildcat's running back. The play of the day however belonged to back up true freshman quarterback Trey Burton. In the second quarter, on third and inches, Burton would keep the option and take it up the middle for a 51 yard TD. Janoris Jenkins had an interception in this contest as well.

Urban Meyer: "We were not very good today. Not good going into a big contest next week. If we cant stop the run vs. UK I hate to see what those two monsters will do next week. We gotta change field position on offense we punted out of the endzone more today than we have in 4 or 5 years combined. "

On Burton's play: "Not surprised. He did that in the Spring game. That's what he's in there for. Nice play, but I'm worried about Alabama, now."

    Alabama destroys Florida

    41-17

Florida went into the locker room down 34-3 they absolutely were the better team in this one. they proved that John Brantley and this Florida team has little to no chance of winning a SEC title this season. Alabama did all of this with Mark Ingram sidelined for two quarters. They never took their foot off the pedal. They even went for the endzone on the last play of the game rather than kneeling.

    Keys to the game

    Florida threw 4 INT's Brantley 3 Burton 1

sacked twice but hit 30 times i'd say.

got down by too much to get the running game going.

4 drops 3 of them on key 3rd down conversion attempts.

Richardson breaking a 68 yard TD to blow it open in the first half.

Despite all of this I got it back to 34-17 and had the ball in the red zone and couldnt hit a receiver.

Their defense is nasty can't become one dimensional against them.

    Florida fails again

The Florida Gators got a 300+ yard day from John Brantley and 2 scores but the defense was not up to par in this one. The LSU RB was able to find running lanes throught out the night and went for well over 100 yards and scored 3 or 4 td's. The Gators will be home again for Mississippi State hoping to get off of the losing streak.

Urban Meyer: LSU is very well coached and hit some homeruns tonight. I am not happy with the running game and I think that we need to do some things to give Johnny and the Rb's a chance to be successful.

    Florida 37 Georgia 14

Florida can't help but love the city of Jacksonville. The Gators have dominated the Florida-georgia rivalry since the game was moved to Jville. This Saturday offered the same as the Gators finally showed up this season winning 37-14. Georgia would not score until late in the 4th off of a kick return and a well orchestarted hurry up drive. The Gators scored on the first play of scrimagge as Chris Rainey would take a quick out route break a tackle and make several Georgia defenders miss before turning on the 10.3 speed. for a 77 yard score. The Gator secondary did not allow Aaron Murray to get AJ Green and Marlon Brown involved. Janoris Jenkins had a pick 6, Jeremy Brown had an int and Ahmad Black set an early tone forcing a fumble and setting up the offense for another score. DE Justin Trattou even got a pick on his way to the QB who was under a heavy rush. John Brantley was 8 of 9 for 177 yards and two td passes to Rainey. Demps and Gillislee combined to go over 100 yards and a score. Caleb Sturgis drilled all 3 FG attempts for the special teams.

Urban Meyer: We needed that week off to get or wits back. This was a broken team. We never lost three straight, it hurt. These seniors rallied and everyone jumped on board. We went down to FAU and picked their brains and brought some things home for Johnny and the offense. I liked it. Hell I'd run GT's offense if we could execute it. we will build off of this adn tey to make a run.

3 TD's for the fastest man in College athletics!

The Florida Gators went to Nashville with the attitude that they were going to win and dominate the Commodores. They were fairly successful at that. Jeff Demps scored 3 times and led the way for the Gator offense. Moses Jenkins came away with beautiful pick 6 playing the flats in a cover 3 scheme and cribbed it for the Gators. The Gators are now bowl eligible and look to sweep the SEC East when they take on the South carolina Gamecocks and the 'Ol Ball Coach. Vandy's QB Larry Smith would rack up a bunch of stats in the 4th quarter against the Gators second and third string defenders pushing the score to 38-21.

Meyer: "We came out and dominated early. Our focus was right. We gotta get the twos and threes better I'm not happy with our play on either side of the ball in the 4th quarter."

    Florida 24 South Carolina 14

Florida did their part. Now they wait on the outcome of the Auburn Georgia game. The Florida Gators defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks 24-14. Chris Rainey had a huge day with 185 yards receiving and a first quarter TD that set the tone early. Urban Meyer. "That play really sparked us John and Chris read the blitz and the ball was on time and Chris used that track speed for some good," The defense played well despite the 17-18 day by USCe QB Brindise. A lot of the throws were screens and horizontal, The play of the day may have been an under thrown deep ball he threw that was almost intercepted twice by jeremy Brown before bouncing into the hands of the USC WR who took it in for six.

Jeff Demps added 71 yards on the ground, and Mike Gillislee showed his knack for grinding out tough yards and scoring in goalline situations.

Chris Rainey: "I talked to Percy this week, and he told me that it was time for me to do something big."

    Gators win 41-20

The Florida Gators may have been hung over from the news that they were going to Atlanta. The Troy Trojans came out and score 20 points in the first quarter and lead the as it ended 20-7. Then The Gators scored 34 unanswered and but the upset bid to rest. John Brantley hit 3 different tragets for Td's and had over 300 yards passing despite havinga poor day in completion percentage. It was a day of big plays as the Gators scored from length Rainey (78) Parks (80) and Gillislee (49) and Sturgis the kicker (43, 49). will Hill had an interception and a red zone fumble recovery on the day as the Trojans no huddle attack worked through out the game.

    Gators outlast FSU 21-17

The Florida Gators were able to defeat the Florida State Seminoles once again. Jeff Demps scored on the ground and through the air to lift the Gators. Deonte Thompson scored on an end around from about 5 yards out as well. FSU kept the Gator defense off balance with QB runs from EJ Manuel, well timed screen plays and a big play or two from the Wild Nole formation.

The Gators are now 9-3 and will head to Atlanta to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide for the SEC Championship.

Florida shocks Alabama in the 4th to win SEC crown

It is tough to beat a team twice in one season. Especially when the team is the Florida Gators. Florida came out focused and not intimidated by the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide. Urban Meyer would see his squad down within the first two minutes of the game three rushes by Mark Ingram includeing a 64 yard dazzler for a TD covered 80 yards. Caleb Sturgis would get the Gators on the board late in the first with a 32 yard Fg. End of the first 7-3 Bama.

In the second quarter John Brantley was on point hitting Chris Rainey for a big gain to set up a 24 yard strike to Omarius Hines to put the Gators up 10-7. Brantley made an audible at the line sensing a blitz and Hines was all alone and glided into the endzone. On the ensuing drive Janoris Jenkins who shut down Julio Jones when they were matched up. came up with an interception that set up a 38 yard Sturgis FG with 40 seconds to go in the half. gators up 13 -7 going into half . . . hold the phones dee Finley and Will Hill got beat on deep post to D. Hanks who scores from 81 out right before half giving Bama the 14-13 lead in the lockerroom.

The third quarter was pretty uneventful but Bama added another key FG to go up by 4 17-13.

The fourth quarter was one for the ages. caleb Sturgis got it going early with a 36 yard FG Bama 17 UF 16. Bama and Florida would trade possessions and the Crimson Tide ate clock as Mark Ingram and Julio Jones set them up to seal the deal with a walk in 2 yard TD with 1:41 to go. Bama 24 UF 16. Florida went ot hurry up mode with 0 time outs left. Brantley hit a receiver to move into Bama territory and then on 3rd down he launched a bomb to the end zone that Andre Debose came down with from 48 away. Bama 24 Florida 22. On the two point conversion, Brantley forced a pass to carl Moore in the back of the endzone, it gets tipped by a Bama defender falls into Gator receiver Deonte Thompson's hands only to be jarred loose by a big hit from a crimson Tide defender.

UF's only hope is to go onside and onside they did! Josh Shaw recovered the ball that bounced off the Bama players hands. ( I havent recovered a onside kick in this game since I was in high school) Brantley would connect with Rainey and Moore to move the ball into the redzone. Brantley made a 10 yard run of his own up the middle avoiding pressure to get it to the 6. The Gators wanted one more play and Emmanuel Moody took it up the gut untouched for six with 14 seconds left! The defense would hold and the party would start in Gainesville .

The Florida Gators used three first quarter turnovers by Boise and turned them into 17 points. Will Hill and Jeremy Brown had interceptions and Omarius Hines recovered a fumble by a kick returner. This resulted in a Caleb Sturgis field goal and 2 td passes by John Brantley. In the second quarter Brandon Hicks would wrap up the Boise Qb in the endzone for a safety after the Broncos were coffin cornered by punter Chas Henry. Caleb Sturgis hit another FG and the Gators were up 22-0 at half.

In the second half Brantley's final pass of the day went for a TD to TE Desmond Parks who walked in as he was wide open for a long TD reception. Brantley and the other starters sat the rest of the day as they watched the second teamers struggle to move the ball and a defensive unit who gave up 21 points to give Boise fans a moral victory.

Urban Meyer: I hope we have seen the maturation of John Brantley this year. I hope he remembers how these last 7 games felt and that he goes into the off season and leads this team to where we need to be in 2011.
