    Florida Gators Recruiting

The 2009 Florida Gators have a senior class of 13 players, plus they are two short of the 70-man roster limit. This will allow new coach Basil Faraday to sign 15 total players this year (prior to player departures). There is lots of flexibility in this class, as there are only three position needs (QB, FB, MLB), so the Gators will be looking to add depth.

Here are a list of the bonus recruits that show up on the Florida recruiting board:

    - 5* HB Baker
    - 5* CB McBride
    - 4* P Coley
    - 4* CB Gaines
    - 4* QB Parker
    - 4* T Kirkpatrick
    - 4* T Jackson

As offseason recruiting is set to begin, the Gators are losing 5 guys early to the pros and to transferring. This gives us 20 total scholarship offers. We currently have 14 guys signed, so we are allowed to sign 6 more this offseason.

At the end of offseason recruiting, the Gators are pleased to announce that they signed 19 players of their 20 available scholarships. They had the #2 user recruiting class of the year, but were only bested by LSU who went over the limit (unintentionally).

Here is a look at how the incoming freshman class looks after being added to the Florida roster.

    BOOM
    - (5*) CB McBride: 82 ovr
    - (4*) MLB Brant: 80 ovr, 72 awr
    - (4*) MLB Ross: 80 ovr, 75 awr
    - (4*) T Jackson: 80 ovr
    - (5*) CB Ford (was the #1 ATH recruit): 78 ovr, 65 awr
    - (4*) CB Gaines: 80 ovr
    - (4*) QB Reid: 80 ovr, 77 speed
    - (5*) DE BO WHITE (JUCO SO): 6'7", 291, 82 ovr, 81 speed
    - (3*) WR Jamie Brown: 79 ovr, 89 speed

    BUST
    NONE!

The only disappointments for me are that the 3* wide receiver is rated higher than both of my in-season 4* guys, but they are all high 70's so it isn't the worst thing. One of the in-season 4* guys (Williamson) is slow (81 speed), but I knew this going in and really wanted him for his hands, which are phenomenal. The fullback that I signed BLOWS; I should have just recruited a tight end :p

You and Notre Dame basically destroyed the top 5 of my recruiting board.

Congrats on McBride and Gaines. I really wanted to get one of them (was hoping for McBride). Unfortunately finishing second on a defensive recruit to Florida isn't unfamiliar territory for an ND fan (Justin Trattou, Lorenzo Edwards, Omar Hunter, Major Wright).

Congrats man, I really needed a corner like Gaines. Like I said before, we'll split some of these big time recruits.

He'll also likely sign the #1 recruit in the country next week (unless he has a good visit with FSU).

Nothing new to report since the signing of Baker by FSU. However, word around Gainsville is that some recruits that came in for a visit against Arkansas left happy. More to come on this (I hope)!

Well done. Florida is going to be tough to beat this year for the #1 user class.

I have signed exactally zero players since I moved to Bama, put me at a huge disadvantage in recruiting this year and I have twenty three spots!

Yeah, that is definitely the toughest thing about switching teams mid-season. When I joined TT2 I got slaughtered in recruiting by the rest. Keep at it man!

Tell me about it!!!!!!! I just took over UNC in week 12 in TF's Southern Exposure (6 ACC/ 6 SEC league) and looked at their recruiting. These are some of the horrors that I've posted about:
So look at it this way Bruce.....

It could've been much, much, much, much worse!

Very true. You guys will have a chance to catch up though. It may not be ideal, but offseason recruiting is a pretty good equalizer in these situations (whether we like it or not).

Off topic, how do you guys know more than the letter grade regarding a recruit's speed? Jello, how did you know that CB was an 83? I've also seen guys write about 40 times. Are they just making numbers up based on the letter grade or is there some way to know?

As had gone previously unreported, the Florida Gators signed four more recruits before the regular season finished up:

WR Stanford Williamson: Stanford is small (5'10") and a little bit slow (4.60 40), but he makes up for that with great hands. He rarely drops a pass. With the Gators bolstering their defense, their offense needs guys to secure the rock, and Stanford fits that perfectly.

WR Trey Hartman: Hartman has decent size (6'2") and is faster than Williamson (4.50 40), and will be a better down field threat. He should help out the vertical passing game nicely down the road.

MLB Andy Ross: The Gators have done a great job in recruiting linebackers so far this season, and Ross makes that even stronger. Ross has great speed for a middle linebacker (4.62 40), and good size to go along with that. He also comes in with a 4.0 GPA (C AWR) and could make a very early impact for Florida on defense.

FB Michael Edwards: Edwards was brought in to fill a need. He isn't the biggest or fastest guy at fullback, but we'll see how he progresses.

This means that Florida has 14 hard commits this regular season, of their 15 allowed. One scholarship was saved for offseason recruiting. With the amount of players that will likely go pro, even more could open up to make this class even better! Original post and the one at the top of this page has the updated charts.
