Florida State keeps Troy out of the redzone, eases to a 41-3 victory!

Things looked like they could take a turn for the worst after the ball squirmed free from Bert Reed's grasp on a kick off return. Coach K would throw the challenge flag, and it would in deed be over turned. From there, the Seminoles coasted to their first win of the season.

Troy mixed it up very nicely threw the air and on the ground, and made some very nice plays, but could never really sustain a drive as needed to knock off a perenial power such as Florida State. It doesn't help either when you can hardly move the ball across the opponent's 50 yard line.

Offensively, Christian Ponder completed passes to six different receivers, throwing for a TD and 343 yards on 21 completions out of 33 attempts. Also, Sophomore Jermaine Thomas received "Player Of The Game" honors while rushing for 114 yards on 27 carries with 2 TDs and catching 6 passes for 80 yards, however, he did fumble twice inside the redzone in the fourth quarter.

    Players of the Game
    Offense
HB Jermaine Thomas (So) - 27 carries for 114 yards, 2 TDs; 6 receptions for 80 yards

    Defense
CB Greg Reid (Fr) - 3 tackles (TFL), 1 sack, 1 INT

    Special Teams
    K D Hopkins (Fr) - 2/2 FGs; 5/5 PATs

Thomas' 4 TD game helps improve the Seminoles to 2-1!

After 3 straight TD runs by Jermaine Thomas, it looked like FSU would pull away with an easy victory, and possibly get some younger guys in on the action. However, one break down in coverage, and an interception in the redzone let BYU back into the game. After another score, BYU would go into the locker room down 28-14.

FSU would score twice more in the third, and ultimately put the game out of reach for the Cougars. Jermaine Thomas won "Player of the Game" honors once again rushing for 163 yards on 24 carries with 4 TDs.

USF isn't much of a challenge for FSU!

At first it looked liked USF would pull off the upset, but they were unable to score after the first quarter. FSU runs away with a 44-10 win, and looks to get their first win in ACC play next week.

    Players of the Game
    Offense
QB Christian Ponder (Jr) - 17 of 31 for 328 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs

    Defense

Stressful game for Coach K moves FSU to 1-1 in the ACC!

The Boston College defense played tremendous in the first half, and took FSU completely out of rhythm. They were able to get out to a 7-3 lead, and driving inside FSU territory at the end of the half. Then, Senior OLB Dekoda Watson picked off his second pass of the game this time taking back for six, swinging the momentum heavily.

FSU was able to get things going with their passing game in the second half, but they had absolute no run game. Ponder hit Senior WR Rod Owens for a 38 yard TD with only ten seconds left in the half. In the third quarter he would first find Senior WR Richard Goodman on a 35 yard TD, and once again hook up with Owens for a 33 yard TD.

An interception in the fourth quarter pulled Boston College within striking distance, but it wasn't enough to knock off the Seminoles as they defeated the Eagles 34-21.

    Players of the Game
    Offense
WR Rod Owens (Sr) - 5 receptions for 127 yards, 2 TDs

    Defense
OLB Dakota Watson (Sr) - 5 tackles (2 TFL), 1 sack, 2 INT (80 yard TD)
FS Jamie Robinson (Sr) - 16 tackles (3 TFL), 2 deflections, 1 FF

P Shawn Powell (So) - 3 punts for 127 yards, 0 yards returned

Georgia Tech's aggressive defense costs them big plays for FSU!

Florida State had trouble running the ball consistantly all game, but when they went to the pass it was there. Often times Georgia Tech was sending the house, and leaving receivers unguarded!! Sometimes, FSU would flat out beat the DB, and with no safety help over the top Ponder would "let it fly."

    Players of the Game
    Offense
QB Christian Ponder (Jr) - 14 of 24 for 342 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT

    Defense
DE Craig Yarborough (Sr) - 10 tackles (3 TFL), 1 sack

    Special Teams
WR Bert Reed (So) - 3 KR for 125 yards, long of 82

Yates' 7 INTs ensured Seminole victory!

The defensive line was the key to success tonight. They just blew up the O line and got to the QB, it is fitting the the first interception by the seminole defense actually came from Senior DT Justin Mincey. North Carolina abandoned their run game way too early, and the interceptions gave FSU great field position.

Florida State played pretty conservative all game, and lead 21-0 at half. Coach K said, "I was just focused on making sure our offense didn't turn the ball over. As long as we didn't do that, we'd win the ball game. A few missed oppurtunities by us (going for it from the 1 before the half, and the onside kick) let them back in the game. I was pleased with how the defense created turnovers, but we still gave up 390 yards through the air! We've got to figure something out."

    GG Dru!
