    Football Vocabulary Question

I've been reading some football coaching blogs, and I keep coming across this word/phrase "tech". It's usually used in reference to defensive tackles and a type of formation I'm assuming. An example would be:

"against a traditional 4-3 front you see 0 nose, 4 tech tackles, 20 tech inside linebackers."

Does anyone know what the heck "tech" means???

I don't think it's gap responsibility because the play they have diagramed there are not 4 gaps, only 3.

My best guess is that it has something to do with either a 3 or 4 point stance. It works for the LBs too in a 20 tech, 2 point stance. However, I have no idea how the NT levitates to be in a 0 point stance. haha

I think G-Unit is right, it's short for technique.

Normally technique is inside shoulder/heads up/outside shoulder being 1/2/3 technique.

its term for alignment. see this diagram.

as you can see that the numbering system or "tech" is just for alignment purposes. the numbering system changes when you get a TE the even numbers are head up so 0 = C 2 = G 4= T 6 = TE.

Tech just a shorting for technique nothing with gap responsiblity.

Hahaha, yeah I was thinking about that yesterday. It's probably at least 10 years away before we get a game with actual blocking schemes instead of all zone blocking. That's really the only way you'll have a true football sim game.

Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate it.
