Forza Racing League Tips for racing

Work in Progress - Please add

Some guidelines and tips to help you enjoy Forza Race nights.

    Know the tracks!
If you are going to participate please know the tracks you will be racing on. This will help you ten fold. In order to do this is take the car you will be using and run 10-15 hot laps in practice or time trials. Take a look at your time and compare it to some of the other racers in the league. This will give you a good idea of what to expect. Maybe you will need to change cars or tune it to improve times.

    The Racing Line
Use it if your unfamiliar with the track. I recommend the "Braking Line" as the "Race line" can be distracting. The "Brake Line" is dynamic and will tell you when to brake based on many factors. No one will bother you for using it.

    Assists
Use em if you want. If it helps you get around the track without riding the grass or smashing the wall then by all mean use em. Keep in mind though the more assists you have on the slower you lap times.

    Manual vs Auto
Your choice. I use Auto and hate that I do but I think I am retarded and can't handle a lot of tasks at once. Manual does have its advantages as you can rev the engine higher and downshift to assist braking. These factors will improve lap times. IMO just choose what ever give you the faster lap times for you.

    Passing/Drafting/Bumping/Crashing

Ok nothing is worse than spending time tuning and practicing to then be taken out in lap 1. IT IS A REQUIREMENT that you respect the racer in front of you. He may not brake when you want or accelerate when you want but that doesn't give you permission to smash his trunk and send flying off the course.

This is where proper passing comes in the conversation. Remember we will be racing 6-10 lap races. You DON'T NEED to pass everyone on lap 1. Take your time and look for good places to pass. It also never hurts to alert the person you are passing "Steelah coming fast on your right". This further helps prevent accidents. Hellisan is a great passer and never passes when he shouldn't and never takes you out when doing it. Watch him! Last year we could go a few nights without any accidents and we kind of expect the same results.

Drafting/tailgating - I have no problem with this if you can handle it. If you constantly bumping the guy in front of you then back off!

Accidents will happen but we want to keep them to a minimum. If there is a big one in the 1st lap of a race we may restart if the we all agree.

    You car
This is not a requirement but we suggest it. Customize your car's appearance. Nothing is more boring that you racing in a "Plain Jane" Stock car. Put some liveries on, some color, some wheels ect. Be an individual!

    Microphone
Get one....it is important that we are able to communicate with you during the race. I don't want to be typing messages. I will consider this mandatory!

Most important have fun, joke around and talk some trash. This is a casual race league. We are not cut throat, out for blood racers. We want you to enjoy racing and competition.

This is all I have for now. Please add anything!

I will need to pick up a mic.

Just to add a combination for rule #1 and #5..... if you know your tracks, you will know where the best place to pass is. Nothing more annoying than getting taken out on a hair-pin by a boti boy that has the need for speed.

If you realize your not going to be competetive in a race, don't fuck it up for everyone else.

I can't count how many times i've wrecked or had something happen to my car that left me much slower than the rest of the field.

instead of clogging up the race as lap traffic, i just pull the hunk of shit off to the side of the road and wait it out.

Learn to feather the brake and throttle

learn other racers tendancies. For myself, I like to blast off the line so get out of my way :)

I drive aggressively (mostly when Hellisan is in front of me) but 9 times out of 10 I am not gonna purposely ram you.

It says know your tracks but you gotta know your cars too. get familiar with a couple from each class.

    Good tips, all!

To me the most important things to remember are

    1) Trust your lap times. If you are good enough to run a good lap time after time, passing LITERALLY takes care of itself, because that means you're taking good lines and likely have a "slow in, fast out" style that will put you in good position for speed on the straights. Diving inside somebody in turn 1 simply isn't necessary if you can put together good lap times, and it also isn't going to win you the race. It's impossible to win the race in the first turn. Or on the first lap. etc. If you know your lap times do not stack up even remotely to somebody else, it's unreasonable to expect to dive inside them then hold them off for six laps by pure force. Nevertheless, the slow in, fast out philosophy does leave room for passing sometimes, just be careful.

    2) Have a good time no matter what. This is the greatest thing about Forza IMO is that there is somebody for just about everybody to compete against. Whether you're competing for 1/2, racing in the 3/4 slots, or trying not to finish last, there's a person for you to try and beat.

Sidesnotes: I can't believe they made like... every single car in the game upgradeable to all wheel drive. Casino just creamed himself. I love me some AWD don't get me wrong but it just doesn't feel right making them all AWD... Ugh. We will have to stage some RWD races JMS... Just to make people use it lol.

I love me some AWD but the only cars I converted to AWD was my Failady Z and an Eclipse. Sometimes one of the VW golfs. The rest I run as what they are. might use a more powerful engine but dont usually change the drive train.

of course, it might change since it is an option lol

Helli didnt start out racing like he does now. he was as good as Ral, bly, and jms. You, LJ and ME (might be missing someone) were the main ones usually fighting it out. Then Helli learned what he was doing and it became really itneresting.

Racing styles......hmmmm off top of my head.

Hellisan: Our fearless racing leader. Steady and great front runner. If he is in first forget it. Safe Passer and almost too safe. He would rather come in 3rd then push it going for 2nd. He wont wreck you being too over agressive:

VaSteel: Can post some killer hotlap times. Steady driver but you will the occasional hear "damn it" as he ends up off the road on an easy turn. Just when you think Steelah is out of the race he is back in it......great come from behind driver.

Rynoaid: If given the right track and car he is brutal and can challenge Helli for 1st. Safe driver that usually ends up on the podium.

Ca$ino: One word. Aggressive! The guy can drive like Cole Trickle and will challenge you from behind. Problem is he is too aggressive and will sometimes take him self and sometimes someone else out due to poor judgement. You never really know with Ca$ino, it all depends on his mood.

JMS (myself): I consider myself and steady safe driver. It seems staying away from the traffic will usually put me in and 2nd or 3rd place position. I never compete with elite lap times but don't mess up too often. I do tend to skid around turns too much due to me pushing the envelope. I am not good when Helli or someone is on my arse....usually makes me nervous and send me off the track at some point. You will usually find me competing with Steelah most of the time.

I was a Gran Turismo guy that never thought I would convert to another game (or system for that matter). I got Xbox360 and the game about a month and a half after you guys and was trying to learn an entirely new game, controller, etc.

I've always been pretty good at any driving game that bears any significant resemblance to realistic driving though. In other words I suck at Ridge Racer.

It took me awhile to wrest it away from you and LJ but once I did there was no going back. Then he momentarily took it back when he dipped into the tuning marketplace but then I grabbed the same cars and had no problem with him. He's really consistent though. That was his #1 quality. But it made me realize how important tunes are.

LOL the game genie is a friend.

My favorite was the one with you and him (I think) where he came up behind you and said "are we gonna do this the easy way or..."

    *crash*

    HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAH

I drove by the both of you doing the parade wave out my side window. You know the one where the hand isn't going up and down just rotating on the wrist?

    That one

Helli I believe it was on Mugello, and Ryno had his Saab. He was trailing me for quite a while and couldn't pass. I said i was eventually blocking him. He asked me if we are going to be civilized with this.

I was in my famous "fuck off" - "Days of Thunder " car
    [IMG]

Jms in the Green, Ryno in the Blue, and Helli back there in the white Bimmer.

This is the point where Ryno is getting annoyed at me b/c he has the faster car.

He decides this is the turn he is going to pass on the inside

    The result
    [IMG]

    Helli and I then

Ryno and I get into it again later.....check out my windowless Audi!

wow, this kinda makes me feel bad. I knew i was aggressive but felt when i fucked up is one i didnt anticipate the other driver weaving or soemthing and fucked us both up.

oh yeah i forgot about that game genie. i hope its not updated with forza 3 codes. fucking Helli

i dont remember that but it probably happen. im doubting i did that during one of our league races though.

and about that incident with Ryno, i really felt bad after it but it really wasnt on purpose. i just shut up because if the guy wouldnt believe or accept the apology, well then, i cant do anything about it. i remember it was on the atlanta track where the track converts from short to long course. im thinking he went wide, and i went for the inside and when he finished the turn just in front of me, i clipped his rear bumper.

Casino, our race: I think I posted this recently but just in case, lol...

I had gotten in some kind of mess previously (hence the damage on my car) and I thought it was gonna be a bitch getting by Ral in time to catch up with you. That's when he randomly drifts to the left whilst checking me out in his rear view. Setting up a great couple of finishing laps.

I'm in the Supra, Ca$ino is in his 350z
