Through three games we have three standout freshman that have started making names for themselves. It is still way to early to tell who is going to win this thing and if any of these three guys will be there in the end, but none-the-less, we have our first installment in the chase for the Freshman of the Year award!

    QB Jameis Winston (Florida State)

Winston has started the season red hot. Opening his career in a hostile, rowdy Big 10 atmosphere; Winston managed to lead his team to an overtime victory against the Wisconsin Badgers. In that game, Winston was near perfect which has been the case for most of this young season. Winston boasts an 80.8 completion percentage going 42 for 52. He also has 670 yards through the air with 6 TDs and only 1 INT. If he can keep up this play, he may be the front runner for the coveted Freshman of the Year award.

    WR Joshua Standford (Virginia Tech)

His QB Logan Thomas has been pretty much spot on for most of this season. Thomas already has nearly 1000 yards passing and Standford has been the main beneficiary of that statistic so far. Standford leads the Hokie offense with 237 yards receiving and 4 TD grabs. The freshman from Niagara, Canada is making an early name for himself. If he can stay healthy, this freshman is sure to quickly become Thomas’ main target which can only pile his stats up even higher.

    FS Taylor Barton (Illinois)

Taylor Barton enters his freshman season by way of Marion, Ohio. Barton had dreamed of playing for his childhood idol, The Ohio State Buckeyes. But after the scandal that rocked Buckeye nation, Barton chose to go a different route. He signed with the Fighting Illini, and in his first season in Springfield has been a bright spot in their defense. Barton has 14 tackles to go along with 1 INT. He may not be the flashy pick to win Freshman of the Year, but Barton’s career is definitely off to a nice start and may be the dark horse candidate to win this thing.

ThaBayouChef - very nice work. I don't see an Ohio State freshman making the list this season unless there is a string of injuries at one position. The Buckeyes have a lot of upperclassmen on this year's roster.
