Per NFL's rules, a teams roster is frozen from the end of the teams season until free agency starts.

Is that something you've enforced prior to now?

People are starting to clean house a little bit and we have new guys who want to sign some of them...

    Thoughts?

For teams that aren't playing in the playoffs - yes more or less. We let people purge their rosters to prep for the offseason but adding people is pretty ridiculous.

For playoff teams, we can't really have a hard rule. If your punter gets hurt or any other position where you don't meet a roster requirement, the console will force you to sign someone.

What's to prevent people from sniping people as they are released?

I believe this falls under the "don't be a douche" umbrella, no?

If some badass FA gets cut at the end of the season, why would it be fair for ONLY playoff teams to have a crack at the player? Unless I'm misunderstanding you, we would step in at that point.

Besides, not many people really do that much offseason work prior to the offseason. Its never been a problem in the past.

If rosters are frozen, people can't release. What is the benefit of releasing prior to playoff end?

As I said, just to prep for offseason.

I was always under the interuptation that we wait until FA period to make all moves as far as pickups go. You can release, but never pick up.
