Pacific Life Holiday Bowl : Oklahoma Vs Cal

The stadium was packed what appeared to be more blue colored shirts than red. It almost felt like playing at Cal's home stadium.

This game was determined by Cal's Defensive domination! Holding Oklahoma to only 7:34 secs of time of possession the defense also held Ok to only l142 offensive yards. Oklahoma got caught on 3rd and long situations throughout this game only to come up inches short on several plays. Oklahoma's 3rd down conversions were only 2-11 and threw 2 interceptions.

The offense of Cal was very efficient going 7-12 on 3rd downs and 5-5 in the redzone. They also had a time of possession of over 18 minutes.

    Final score 42-0 Cal

Player of the Game SR RB S. Vereen: 23 attempts for 117 yards and 3 TDS

    Oregon Beats #19 Cincinnati

    Oregon : 41
    Cinc : 6

Oregon has won back to back Sun Bowls. This time instead of Masoli and Shinaba, it was Thomas and James leading the way.

In his last game as an Oregon Duck, James rushed 28 times for 156 Yards and 4 TD's. Thomas passed the ball well, going 16/25 for 236 Yards and 1 TD. Defensively, the Ducks killed Cincinnati. They got to the QB 9 times, and completely disrupted the passing game. Cincinnati shot them selves in the foot mostley in 3rd down, going 1/11 for the whole game.

Oregon finishes the season unranked at 10-3. They showed improvement during games this year and next year the goal is 11 wins, and a top #25 finish.

    Capital One Bowl

    Arkansas 13 vs #13 Minnesota 27

Minnesota went down south to Orlando and dominated the Hogs in the 1st half. The second half was not so pretty. I believe it was our 3rd straight game without Jonathan Pittman. Duane Bennett cleaned house going over the century mark in rush yards. The offense clicked and managed the game well. Hopefully, we find our starting QB next year as we lose Marqueis Gray. It was a successful year finishing ranked in the top 25 and 11-2 with only 1 loss in the Big Ten to the #1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

Lots of words pop into my head to describe this game. Only one fits.

    Annihilation

Boston College never knew what hit them. Iowa was pissed for throwing away a season. BC just happened to walk into the fight without knowing there was one. From the get go, Iowa looked to pound the rock. The opening drive took almost 3 minutes and was capped off by a Brandon Wegher TD run.

After taking it to the Eagles on defense, Iowa again started it up and put it in drive. Dividing the carries between the future (Wegher) and the bruiser (Brinson), Iowa again moved the length of the field. This time the TD would come through the air as Weinke hooked up with his favorite target, Keenan Davis for the score.

The first half still was not over. Up 14-0, Iowa was looking to close it out early. Put your foot on their throat, and don't let up. That led to another bruising effortout of the backs, and again Weinke went to the air for the 6. This time TE Andrew Jones got in on the act for 1 of his 2 TD catches. Iowa goes into the locker room leading 21-0. And still hungry.

BC starts the second half with the ball, but cannot keep it for long. They had a problem with this all day, not converting a single third down. Iowa took over possession and made the drive into the red zone before having to settle for the Mossbrucker FG. 24-0 Iowa

The BC offense chose the quickest route on and off the field again. This led to the second of Jones TD's, one where he was left completely uncovered, and he walked into the endzone. 31-0 Iowa

BC stepped onto the field again, looking for something, anything. Was not going to happen. QB Alex Atiyeh was feeling pressure all day. It finally came to a head, as he lofted one down the middle of the field, and SS David Davis came flying out of nowhere to make the interception and return it inside the 30 yd line before being chased down by the BC RB. The coaches are very impressed with this freshman and are comparing him to another former Hawkeye, Bob Sanders.

The turnover set up what RB Jeff Brinson will probably remember most from his career as a Hawkeye. Brinson has been a backup for the past three seasons, spelling Jewel Hampton the first two years and Brandon Wegher this season. He has never complained, and has always come in ready to go. In 2009, he finished the season as the starting RB when Hampton went down with a season ending injury. Brinson has been a horse, carrying tacklers with him, never going easy, and will be missed. His shoes may be the hardest to fill. On this carry, Brinson took the rock from McNutt, went in the hole made by his LG and LT, and saw nothing but green pastures some 20yds away. His celebration after the score said it all. This guy was proud to be an Iowa Hawkeye.

The Eagles at this point had all but given up, trailing 38-0. But their defense still had some fight left. Too bad their returner failed to get the message. After holding Iowa short on third down, Iowa was forced to punt. Great coverage, and maybe a little over eagerness on the returners part left CB Jack Swanson drooling. As the returner shook off the first tackle, Swanson came soaring in and blasted the man, bending him over backwards and sending shockwaves from head to toe.

The ball came flying loose on impact and Mr. Everywhere, LB Marty Hopkins, picked it up for the scoop and score. Hopkins has become a sort of fixture on defensive TD's. He has scored three in his first two years. As a linebacker.

At this point, Iowa finally said, yes, we will stop. After a quick three and out, the offense sat on the ball, and was more than happy to take the knee before celebrating the finale that they had worked so hard for. In a season that saw some bumps and hardships, this team really came together to cap off another great season. Back to back 10+ win seasons, a Big 10 Championship and Rose Bowl Victory last year, and now the most total team effort put forth to date. Nothing to hang your heads over.

    Stats of the game - 57 yards TOTAL OFFENSE for BC - 0 for 8 on third downs - 16 rushes for 11 yards - 5 of 13 passing for 46 yards - TOP Iowa- 18:47 - BC - 6:24

In the words of Will Smith in M.I.B., "Don't start none, won't be none!"

Penn State would enter their 3rd straight BCS Bowl in the past 3 seasons and their 3rd different BCS Bowl. A Rose Bowl victory and an Orange Bowl victory...now a Fiesta Bowl is on the line against the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. PSU would receive the ball first...drive the field...and throw in interception in the Nebraska redzone. After a defensive stop...it was all Penn State. The Nittany Lions would sscore 31 straight points and only allowed 7 which came in the 3rd on a 71 yard rush from Nebraska HB Okafor. The Nittany Lions would hoist their 3rd straight BCS Bowl trophy after a dismantaling 31-7 victory.
